Seems baseball players go out on a 10 day with some pretty minor injuries. If my granddaughter took off 10 days every time she had an ache or pain she would be sitting most of the year.

According to Twitter, it's Cave. Could just as well have not made the move then.

There are only 3 bench players as it is. Taking one away before the game starts seems a tad risky. You are one on field collision away from Jose Berrios in left field.

Your granddaughter probably isn't playing a sport at the highest professional level.

Out Of The Park baseball game rates Trevor May as our best-fielding pitcher. Go with him.

Twins get a big break. Minor will not be starting tomorrow as scheduled. Texas will call up a guy from AAA to start tomorrow.

Bold move for a team just 2 games out of the wild card.

And kind of silly -- it's not like Minor is a rookie or coming off a lost season. He threw 157 innings last year. From 2010 to 2014, he threw 160, 180, 180, 205, and 167. What are the benefits of giving him a random 6 inning start off for no specific reason?

I would guess Minor himself asked for an extra long break.

Awful take. These are people, hurting themselves.

Minor isn't opposed to it, but I wouldn't say he asked for it:

The Rangers have talked about the possibilities with Minor all season, going back to spring training. So it's not exactly a surprise. And it beats another year of short leashes.
"I like pitching until I'm pretty much done," he said. "Either I'm tired or not throwing strikes or they're hitting the ball around on me.
"I'd rather do this."
Even if he doesn't like it.
"For me it still sucks not going out there," he said. "Not taking the ball. But I guess it is what it is."

Sounds like the Rangers have given him the choice of a quick hook vs an occasional skipped start.

She is at the highest level of her sport.

That’s great and good for her. But what does this have to do with baseball?

I posted how easily baseball players get out on the IL so easy and someone commented that she isn’t at the highest level of her sport.

Do you think these baseball players are going on the IL because they aren't tough, or because the team believes playing hurt will hurt the team more than their replacement?

We saw what happens last year when guys try to play through injuries. Being "Mr. Tough guy", at the expense of your team is an awful idea.

We occasionally get posters who inform us that they played varsity ball in high school or even some college, and thus understand what major leaguers are going through, moreso than the rest of us. A granddaughter who competes is a creative twist on this weary theme. Kudos.

My daughter was a naturally gifted athlete in a couple of high-school sports and she showed more grit and determination than I ever did. So by no means was I questioning your girl's willingness to play through pain.

What I question is what possible bearing it has on professional athletes such as baseball players who (among other differences) play 6 days out of 7. If they go on the IL it's not to loaf.

Tough loss as Cron has been so good with the bat as well as the glove. I would be very happy with him at 1B for the next few years. How many throwing errors has he taken away from Polanco alone? This keeps Arraez up for sure for another couple weeks at least which I like.

We seem to have the hitting depth in the minors to overcome loss of our hitters. Wish we could say the same about the pitching.

IDK ... Smeltzer and Thorpe have looked quite good so far.  Littell and Poppen look like they have a future at the MLB level too.
