It would have been interesting to see Dave Winfield pitch a mop-up inning or two in the majors but he never did. I think he would have been very competitive in that role.

Interesting inning from Stewart. He is a pitcher, not just a thrower. You can see him looking to execute a strategy with each pitch, yet he's not making the mistake of "aiming" his pitches. This guy might be better than I thought from his first outing.

I like how calm Austin looks at the plate. He generates power with little apparent effort. 

 

Also, I have a feeling Austin loves the way Carpenter throws. He can't wait to mash his next pitch over the fence.

Emotional maturity. Stewart needs to learn to use his fielders, and to trust his stuff. He doesn't have to put so much pressure on himself to strike every guy out.

So how about send Stewart to AAA, Ervin to the DL, and call up Romero and Gonsalves?

It's tough to be successful when throwing under 50% of your pitches for strikes. Stewart isn't going to make it if he can't find the strike zone.

Or DFA Erv. Give him a shot to go somewhere else and prove himself there. I don't want to see him in a Twins uniform anymore. I really want to see Gonsalves and Romero.
