Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Yeah I gotcha...I was exaggerating....kind ofI knew what you were saying
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 You would think a group of guys like ours would realize every game is an audition from here on out, but then they go and put out this effort.

It was a good pitcher they were up against.

wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 2.05 million reasons to keep hanging onto Matty B (now probably down to 1.25 million)Is that in dollars, distance (in feet) of HRs allowed or HRs allowed?
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 2.05 million reasons to keep hanging onto Matty B (now probably down to 1.25 million)Salary? That was Belisle's salary last year. But it is less than that in 2018, although still too high...

It was a good pitcher they were up against.I don’t know for sure, just seemed like a throwaway game from the start with the bad defense, bad at bats (13 Ks), our should be starting catcher had to finish the game on the mound. Seemed like it was a go through the motions night to me.

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 If you complain on what was done to this team all you have to do is watch this game and the rest of the series to realize how far we are away from competing with good teams.Nice self-fulfilling prophecy you've got there! Also, the concerns about selling came with additional concerns that the front office didn't do enough to change the course of the season between April and July.

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Lance Lynn: 7 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 9 Ks for the Yankees tonight. And that about sums it up
tvagle Verified Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Not to be snarky...but check the salary again...signed him for $2.05M MLB contractFull Snark reversal...I must have been looking at last years numbers....
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Not to be snarky...but check the salary again...signed him for $2.05M MLB contractThat was his exact salary last year. It's not his salary for 2018. As I recall, there was only one contemporaneous news report of his signing this year that listed his salary, but I can't find it at the moment. Most just said "MLB contract". I think it was in the $700k-$1 mil range? Wasn't clear if that was prorated either. (Maybe it was the prorated part of $2.05 mil?) Edit: just saw your follow up post. No worries! Whatever it is, it is too much. Maybe we can get reimbursed by Cleveland?
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Game is so bad it doesn't even show in my ESPN homepage feed...might have something to do with the Yankme's being on the mothership tonight News flash, but the Twins rarely show up there. You almost always have to select MLB if you want to see them.

Also, the concerns about selling came with additional concerns that the front office didn't do enough to change the course of the season between April and July.Oh please. They spent money on pitching this year and it didnt pan out. It was all really positive on the board at the start of the season even though some of us knew that it wasn't even close to enough. Another thing I am tired of hearing is that they didnt do enough to better the team in July? Are you serious? We had more holes in this team than swiss cheese. The FO did exactly what they should of done with this type of roster and that was to blow it up a bit. So many posters along with fans were jumping on the bandwagon simply because they swept the worst team in baseball and were "in it."
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Remember to bump this when Austin becomes the next HOF DH. Lol don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they shipped him out. My post was just amusement of how strong of a line that is, albeit against the White Sox. Yanks fans hated the trade and he goes out and does that.

When your biggest shake-up between April 1 and July 1 is signing Matt Belisle, it is almost a self-fulfilling prophecy that you will be selling at the deadline too. Absolutely we could have been sellers regardless, and no in-season move would have guaranteed a turnaround or contention, but there is a pretty compelling argument that the front office never really tried to change the course of a mediocre season. It can also be said they made successful deadline trades -- the two things are not mutually exclusive.
