Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 There are too many players on the Twins roster that would not be on any other team's roster.Nope. A handful, at best. Position players:MauerRosarioEscobarKeplerDozier (but not really this year) Pitchers:BerriosLynnOdorizziGibsonRodney Maybe one or two I’m missing, especially in the pen, but that’s pretty much it

wavedog Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 At the start of the year we were thin on pisition players on the 40 man roster and since we have had injuries and underperformance. We did not get or develop the adequate depth - so this is an organization failure. Something we have seen frequently lately.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Well, the good news is that Belisle's DFA'ing has to be coming with this disastrous outing. One of those AAA arms has to be coming up.

jokin Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 I'm all for improving our draft position! I really like the Oregon State catcher in 2019. After enduring tonight's lineup farce, I think it's soon time to sell off the vets with value and rather than waste time on futile efforts with mock major league lineups- like tonight- instead spend more quality time on next year's mock draft picks and international FAs.
Blake Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 I'll bring the jello mold. Orange, of course.Orange jello mold or orange jello in the mold?

This upcoming "event" has been as predictable as expecting the sun to rise in the east tomorrow morning. Was this bright idea from one Rob Antony?
Blake Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 From your keyboard to Falvine's...eyes, I guess.Concur. Not really a likeable type of thing.

Wade and Gordon seem like pretty solid depth but they'd rather go with these journeymen AAAA players. The lack of offense almost seems partly intentional.

Does Rob Antony still have valued input? This seems like one of his bright ideas.
Blake Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Anyone have a good reason why Belisle was picked up over promoting from within?
VATwinsFan Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Why not give Astudillo a chance and get Cave a bunch of at bats? Maybe even Carter? Belisle out, Busentiz/Curtiss/Anderson in?

I don't think either Gordon or Wade qualify as "depth" going in to a season. Neither were solid choices to be major league capable this season, at least through the first couple months. In any case, I believe it was Ash who pointed out in spring training the 40 man imbalance, 25 pitchers and 15 position players IIRC. Not a very forsightful effort from Falvine, if you ask me. And coupled with some injuries, we're seeing the Bobby Wilson/Taylor Motter/Ryan LaMarre type moves that such a roster construction leaves you with.

Trusting in Grossman was not a good idea and LaMarre is just what we thought he'd be - a singles-only hitter with a bit of speed. Going with Wilson as the 3rd catcher was a bad idea, but they have options to bring up, they're just not exercising them. Other than that, I can't blame the FO for the infield debacle. There was no way to account for losing Polanco, Mauer for a month, and Dozier/Morrison/Sano being terrible at the plate. I don't know what Falvey & Levine could have done about that. There was no realistic way to anticipate all of those events would happen.
Fritzderkat Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Fact is becoming obvious--and we're all aware of the why's--but the Twins at this stage of the season are a pretty piss-poor team. Having a guy like Belisle on the mound to take a shellacking from the Strangers, fer chrissake, is telling. I can't see where to begin to straighten it out.
David HK Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Man, that was just a pathetic display of base-ball.
David HK Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Orange jello mold or orange jello in the mold?"Mold" is a pretty good word around this team right now.

yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 I would hope Belisle would be replaced by a position player. Maybe Granite until Buxton is ready. Or Petit, so the roster has more than one back up infielder.
