Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 The Twins have acquired Jake Odorizzi from the Rays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports (Twitter link). Shortstop prospect Jermaine Palacios is one of the players going back to the Rays in return, FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman reports. Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan reported earlier tonight that the two clubs had agreed to some sort of a trade.

Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted February 18, 2018 Author Posted February 18, 2018 Guessing Palacios is NOT the centerpiece. Odorizzi is under team control for the 2019 season (his last year of arbitration) EDIT: Looks like just Palacios (who BA ranked as the Twins 31st prospect) the Rays weren't happy to lose Odorizzi's arbitration case, nice get by Falvey
curt1965 Verified Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Palacios and ...........?.??
redstorm Verified Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Confirmed that it’s just Palacios
jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Palacios is a very talented prospect. Luckily, the Twins today are well stocked with SS prospects, and Polanco could man that position for several years.
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 This is still not overly helpful but is better than I expected.
Post-Concussive Blues Verified Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Really just 1:1? If so, good deal.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 I'm okay with this one. That didn't hurt too badly ... but ... still not the pitcher I think we need, but we'll see ...
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Good deal. Still need a front of the rotation type though.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Great trade actually. I think Odorizzi slots in real nice as a 3/4.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Nice, two years of Odorizzi for Palacios is a fair trade. Odorizzi didn't have a great 2017 but his past two seasons showed he can be a #3 starter. Palacios is a good prospect but the Twins have enough talent at that position at the moment, so I'm absolutely fine giving him up. Odorizzi will cost $6.3M, so I'm thinking the Twins won't be adding any more starting pitchers. The rotation of Berrios-Odorizzi-Gibson-Mejia-Open (Sanchez vs Slegers vs Duffey) still isn't good but it's a step in the right direction. I still want to see them add an ace but clearly that's not going to happen soon. The best news about this is Sanchez won't be guaranteed a starting spot, as we suspected by his salary. Thank goodness Sanchez isn't the headliner starting pitching acquisition this offseason...
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 I know this is off-topic, but WTH why are the Rays designating Corey Dickerson for assignment? Dude just hit .815 OPS with 27 HRs! Dude's only owed $5.95M! If I'm the Twins, I would try to swing a trade for this guy.
Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted February 18, 2018 Author Posted February 18, 2018 This is still not overly helpful but is better than I expected.Really? Odorizzi is 27yo, was at least a 2 win player (which costs 18M in FA at 9M a WIN) in 2014, 2015, and 2016 before a lackluster 2017. For giving up a likely utility infielder in the next couple years in Palacios, it was a nice get as Odorizzi slots in behind Berrios, Santana and maybe his old teammate Alex Cobb...
