Musk21 Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Haven't seen a thread on this yet. Will be interested to read some of your opinions on it. I'm seeing it with my family on Saturday afternoon. Currently 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Eh. I'll see it but probably not this weekend.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I've heard some reviews saying it didn't meet the hype ... given the hype I can see it not meeting some expectations ... but that won't deter me, and I'm sure it will be awesome!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Since I am unemployed, and my wife is self employed, I imagine we will go tomorrow during the day. Excited!

Funny, the only two I saw said it was very good.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Funny, the only two I saw said it was very good. They still said they were good, just not that good, given the hype. And I'm not even sure where I read it, so maybe I'm confusing it with something else.
jimmer Verified Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I have read a ton of reviews and the majority of them are positive. I will find out tomorrow. This is the 9th Star Wars movie. At worst, it will be the 6th best. I have a feeling, when I get done seeing it, it will end up in my top 3.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I read a mediocre review too. I'm pumped to see it regardless.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 93% on rotten tomatoes. I think that's pretty good.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Pretty sure I will be getting personal reviews from one of the sons and one of my friends tonight....
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Pretty sure I will be getting personal reviews from one of the sons and one of my friends tonight....I rely on those types of reviews more than published critic reviews.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I rely on those types of reviews more than published critic reviews. well, they both LOVE star wars....not the most reliable in this case, frankly.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 well, they both LOVE star wars....not the most reliable in this case, frankly.I LOVE Star Wars, too ... if they don’t like the movie, I likely won’t. If they like it I will, too. Is more reliable for me than a critic, IMO. Either way, I’ll still go to it.
jimmer Verified Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Unbelievably awesome! Even better than I imagined it would be. Exceeded all my expectations.
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I seen it at 9:00am today. I thought it was fantastic! Original, but still very much Star Wars. Every movie has it's flaws but IMO Rian Johnson knocked it out of the park. I have never looked forward to a movie like I have for "The Last Jedi". I feel empty inside now.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 The first hour should have been 40 minutes so they could just get it out of the way because the following 90 minutes are some of the best Star Wars ever put on screen.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Brock and I must have seen different movies. I left entertained, but not satisfied
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Brock and I must have seen different movies. I left entertained, but not satisfiedIt looked forward, not back. I badly wanted to see a Star Wars movie do that because it's been a LONG time since I saw it happen in a good movie. While both TFA and Rogue One were pretty good films, they had their heads up the original trilogy's ass a lot of the time. The Last Jedi felt like it was trying to actually advance the mythology, not mire itself in homage to what came before.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Since this is spoiler free, for now, we'll wait....I liked it a lot. I did not love it.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Since this is spoiler free, for now, we'll wait....I liked it a lot. I did not love it.Clearly you missed the Yu Darvish in a Twins uniform cameo.
jimmer Verified Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Going to see it again on Sunday (when the church people are doing their thing) and/or Tuesday (5 buck movie day).
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Clearly you missed the Yu Darvish in a Twins uniform cameo. This deserved a quote and an LOL and not just a 'like.' Lol!
Musk21 Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 Saw it today. Gotta agree with Mike Sixel...I enjoyed it, but honestly was a little underwhelmed. I expected more. The last hour was excellent, but the first hour and a half was pretty slow.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 That was my favorite Star Wars movie.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Clearly you missed the Yu Darvish in a Twins uniform cameo. Do the Twins blow-up the Yankee Death Star to advance in the play-offs?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 I think I know what the issue is for me. SPOILERS! First, I don't think that every part of every story has to move the main plot.....Second, I hate when characters don't communicate. It isn't realistic. People OVER share, they don't keep secrets from each other. It's one of the things that annoys me about The Magicians tv show..... I don't think the Poe or Finn stories are good enough.Leia and Han had intersting stories, and were interesting characters. Finn should be the most interesting non-Jedi character in this arc. A former storm trooper who decides the first order is evil. But, I felt like his story was tacked onto the story here. The one good point of his story was showing that eternal war between light and dark is bad for everyone, except arms dealers. Unless he is integral to the story next movie, it would have been better for him to die. A non-jedi hero for the galaxy...even the non-jedi can stand up to the first order! Why did the new leader hide the plan from Poe? Stupid. If she had not done that, they might have succeeded. I feel stuff like this is done as plot device, but is 180 degrees off from how people would act in the real world. Plus Poe doesn't do anything in this whole movie, other than the first battle scene. He lacks the depth of Han, imo. I think the movie needed more for the non-Jedi characters to do. Just once I want the bad guys to be really good at fighting. Like Darth Maul. But, Rey and Ben were outnumbered two to one and barely got a scratch. The scene was well done, but it lacked any sense of tension that the darth maul scenes had. Also, the music was lacking, for the first time in a Star Wars movie, none of the music moved me.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 You need some freshly squeezed green milk. That solves everything. I liked it......with some changes I would have loved it. The jedi parts were sooooo good. The other parts were tacked on, but they could have been good.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 not really a spoiler so to speak, but SPOILER just the same... Kind of weird to be rooting for all these suicide bombers in 2018, am I right?
