Wow, short list!

Fernando Abad (32)----not all that good/interesting

Antonio Bastardo (32)----not all that good/interesting
Jerry Blevins (34) — $7MM club option with a $1MM buyout----if he's not worth $7MM, he's not worth singing
Craig Breslow (37)----uh, no.
Brian Duensing (35)----un, no
Zach Duke (35)----good every other year! but old.
Boone Logan (33) — $7MM club option with a $1MM buyout----if he's not worth $7MM, he's not worth singing
Jake McGee (31)----I'd certainly sign this one.
Mike Minor (30) — $10MM mutual option with a $1.5MM buyout----I'd certainly sign this one.
Eric O’Flaherty (33)----uh, no
Oliver Perez (36)---uh, no
Glen Perkins (35) — $6.5MM club option with a $700K buyout, likely retiring, not been healthy.
Tony Watson (32)---looogy for sure. least interesting of the three I'd consider.

Doesn't surprise me at all the list is short. A number of times this season, it was mentioned the other team's pen only had 1 lefty. As a side note, 3 of the 4 arms our FO picked up at the deadline are lefties.

good point on that last part! Also, Rogers is a good LOOGY, and they have other options. If I'm them, I'm signing McGee from this list, or going all RH RP....

Perhaps the team can instead solidify the rotation and hope Gonsalves makes his case where the Twins have to decide if they keep him down in AAA or put him in the MLB pen until a rotation spot opens.

It's an interesting question, really.

who has more value? a guy that pitches in 50-60 games, 1-3 innings at a time, or a guy that is a number 4/5 starter?*

*i'm not saying he's either, but those are certainly possible.....maybe even likely.....

One approach to answering that question: Win Probability Added.

For star relievers and starters, it suggests they can be remarkably even, since the manager has more flexibility in choosing those key innings for the relievers than for the starters.

I'll leave it to you to sift through the more run-of-the-mill pitchers you are interested in comparing.

Give me a healthy Ryan O'Rourke...

Seth, as long as I've read your work, you've advocated going with low-risk, 1 year signings for FA RP. I'm curious if you still feel that way given the power arm bullpens playoff contenders have put together over the last 4-5 years?
