It's Never Too Early for Magic Number

It's basically Seattle and the Angels at this point.

If the Twins manage to just play .500 ball for the rest of the season (and given their schedule, that's a pretty low bar to hurdle), the Angels have to go 11-5 and the Mariners have to go 11-4...

And that's to force a game 163, not to reach the postseason.

So yeah. If the Twins close out this homestand 5-1 (take two of three from Jays), this thing is close to over.

It many not qualify as another worst-to-first (as the Twins did in 1987 and 1991) season, considering that they won't win the division, but this year's Twins team is starting to have that magical of aura of "yes, we can." Sure, they aren't the best team on paper, but this team is really starting to gel lately and I think they could hold their own with anyone during a short series.

Not that it matters, but ESPN now says the Twins have a 71 percent chance of making the playoffs.  Next closest is the Angels at 17 percent.

We need to finish this series strong and then comes that big 10 game make or break road trip.  If we can go .500 on that road trip, we are looking very strong.

Over the last two days, the Twins magic number lead over the Angels went from 20-14 to 16-14.

Still control their own destiny...Twins hitters need to face a hard-thrower, the struggle is real against soft tossers

A little help from the stRangers today will make breathing easier

Let's go Willie Calhoun!!!!

In keeping with reporting the bad and the good (and keep Chief's Paranoia on alert)

Here's how things stack up as we head into tonights games

Thank you Cleveland. Down to 11 with 11 games to play.

Is anyone else glad that the Angels may trot out Ricky Nolasco three times in their final 12 games?

Losing Meyer to injury is a real bummer for them, as is having no farm system they could have used to trade for legit SP.....Imagine if they had added Verlander...

I went looking for news on Meyer and found the news on his labrum surgery. Then I found the 200-post thread on him in the other baseball forums. Whole lotta hand wringing going on!

That is a shame about Meyer. I had high hopes for him, felt the Twins didn't give him the chance he deserved, and was disappointed he was traded.

But back to the point. Let's hope Nolasco gives up 2-3 home runs per start over these next three games.

Rangers Win 4th Straight...

Coincidentally M's drop 6th straight (imagine the kerfuffle that would cause on Twins Daily if that was the Twins)

Interestingly, Seattle hasn't fallen back too much in that time -- 3.5 games to 5 games behind the 2nd wild card.  But as late as it is, their playoffs chances have gone from long shot (5.3%) to virtually zero shot (0.3%).  As noted in the other thread, they are a risk for rolling over for Texas next weekend.
