Question - The term "senior sign" is used a lot. What does that mean? I understand that the person is a senior in college (I assume), but what else is implied?

 

A few different things. They can't play college ball anymore so they’re option after this year are limited, so their bonuses are usually only a few thousand dollars, not hundreds of thousands of dollars. If drafted in the top ten rounds, the team did this to save money to spend elsewhere in the draft. If drafted after the top ten rounds, the team is just looking to fill out their rookie league teams, and some scout suggested their name. They tend to only last a few years in the minors, getting replaced by top prospects or other senior signs. This isn’t always the case, after all, Brian Dozier was a senior sign. Dozier stock has always been... deflated because of it. He was always consider “old” for a prospect compared to the guys who sign out of high school. So even when he was a top 10 prospect, he was never the top prospect. He also will reach free agency at an older age, reducing his potential earnings.  And though I can’t prove it, you'd think a 40 home run hitting, 2nd baseman All star would get more trade interest. His age I believe plays a factor in that as well.

It would be interesting to get a peak at how the Twins top prospects would be after the draft. I would be most curious where Lewis and Enlow would be.

 

Romero looks like he is turning the corner now and Gonsalves is back strong, but I would love to know how Lewis is viewed against those two.

It isn't official yet. Not sure he's even had a physical yet.

I'm curious how reps are split between Lewis and De La Torre. I'm hoping Lewis plays more than every other day, but I'd like to see them both get a ton of reps at shortstop.

While I agree that relationships are important I am not sure how much that applies to Rooker in this situation.  Three Fourths of the guys he is going to "bond" with down there aren't likely to make it to his level.  They also aren't going to change his swing in Elizabethton either.  I think the value to going there is low.

 

 Given his age, playing against tougher competition as soon as possible is far more important.  I think Kieth Law mentioned there are already a handful of guys his age in MLB already.  His draft stock was lowered because of his age. I think the team that takes him needs to be as aggressive as possible to get him from point A to B.  

 

Yep two weeks in E-town won't hurt him but again I am not seeing an incredible benefit to sending him there either.

CR is hardly aggressive either, and why can't he play OF at CR to start?

That's certainly possible. There are always reasons for individual decisions, but eventually it is a pattern.

Goddness I hope not.  Jaylin Davis looks to me like Adam Walker with less power and worse SO numbers.

looks like ABW, does't mean coaching and maturity can't help fix the K problem. his K% is down to 25% the last 33 games with a .939 OPS.. still decent potential.Get Rookers feet wet for a week or 2 and see If Davis to LF or to A+ is better option, that's what I would do

Wow. The signing tracker shows that we have 19 agreed already with 5 from the top ten rounds unsigned. If we sign those five, which normally you expect to get all top 10 rounds signed, that will be 24 plus there are two Seniors unsigned, that would make 26...we might know our whole list of draft signings already...

The worst part of the year is about to come up as several players will be cut from the lower levels to make room for new blood.

Yes, I've seen Javier play every weekend as the regular starting SS in EXST.  Defensively, he's got a strong arm, covers good ground, his footwork needs work though and he doesn't have the softest hands.  The biggest concern is that he is going to fill out and grow over the next 5 years and he might end up on the "large SS" spectrum or move to 3B or corner OF. Offensively, his swing needs work but the bat speed he possesses and how quickly the ball comes off his bat is pretty remarkable.

And, I was asking him where he's seeing that Rooker is going to Ft Myers after 2 weeks in ETown.

MLB.com and MLB daily dish both have Sammons, Contreras, and Faucher all signed for $10,000 each on their tracker. Sounds about right and if true will in total save us $429,500, not too shabby
