Yeah, barring an injury, it seems like Greene is separating himself from McKay.  We need to figure out the rumors for the 35 and 37 picks now.

I hope one of the prospect guru's answers a question or two about Rooker. He sounds exciting.

I don't. Shhhhh, let's keep him quite, BA didn't even have him in their top 100. Until I see a reputable mock draft with him going much higher, I'm still holding out hope the Twins snag him with one of their next two picks.

With the bubbling hype, it's hard to understand why none of these publications other than fangraphs is pumping this guy up.

Another guy completely absent from top 100 lists is Ben Fisher. Eastern Kentucky, Sr, 1B, L/L, 6'1, 215. Leads the NCAA in home runs with 17. Overall he's batting .412/.490/.885 in 153 PAs, to go with 21 BBs and 20 Ks (13.1%).

Here's video of him taking BP in last summer's Northwoods League. Pretty much the only vid of him anywhere:

A couple things I would like to throw in here:

#1 Greene is no better than Riley Pint, but he is just getting more hype because Jay Groome isn't in this draft.

#2 My major league comp for Greene is Jameson Taillon, who has similar stuff, but a slightly bigger body.

What do you base 1 on, given what KLAW and others have said about him being a generational talent?

Video of the two, comparing scouting reports, talking to people who have seen them, etc. Of course it makes a difference seeing them in person, but I just am not impressed enough to call him a generational talent. BTW, just because someone says that a player is more than a hard thrower doesn't mean that he is a generational talent. Also, when Pint was a senior he threw just as hard, had better secondary offerings, and had similar control.

I get what you are saying. Frankly, I haven't read anything yet that has done a convincing job of articulating exactly why Greene is so special. To be sure, I think he is a very good prospect and understand why he is in consideration for the top pick. But some people (like KLaw) are talking about him as a elite talent without explaining exactly why. Basically, I want someone to come out and explain exactly what differentiates Greene from prior top HS picks like Pint, Kolek, Stewart, Bundy, Taillon, Aiken, etc.

My suspicious is that his "generational talent" projection is based on two things:

First, he is really young - not turning 18 until August. Pint, for example, has a November birthday and was 9 months older than Greene at draft time.

Second, he is apparently super athletic, and a good enough SS to be considered a first-round pick as a position player. I suspect that draft analysts project a lot based on athleticism. And there are some good examples of how that works out. Madison Bumgarner was basically just arm strength and athleticism when he was drafted. He didn't have a breaking ball or a decent changeup, and he has trouble repeating his delivery. But he threw 95 and was very athletic. And he was young - still 17 on draft day. On the other hand, Kohl Stewart is super athletic, and that hasn't helped him develop so far.

But like I said, I really want someone (KLaw, Callis, Sickels, etc) to come out with a convincing explanation for why he is such an amazing talent.

Jim Callis wrote this about a month ago, with video and links to many other articles. Perfect Game used the term "generational player" and Callis linked to that writeup.

Once again, Rooker steals the show with these numbers!

yeah, I don't know where he's going to go, but I hope we take him. I've got to think he's in play at 35 or 37, as I doubt he's there in the 3rd round.

unreal numbers.

Geez guys come on keep the chatter down, he's supposed to be a secret! Let's keep this guy on the QT!

Code names only.

Hey, anyone see T.J Hooker last night? It looks really awesome! ;)

McKay did not pitch but went 2/5 yesterday

Bukauskas struck out 6 in 7 innings giving up a run

Wright put himself back into the picture with a complete game 3 hit shutout. He struck out 13.

Poche gave up 4 runs in 7 innings striking out 9.

Rooker was only 1 for 4 today, but a HR (16) and 2Ks.

My fun to follow guy Dunshee went 6 2/3 striking out 8.

Two other guys who the Twins have been looking at are Jeren Kendall and Pavin Smith.
Kendall went 1-3 with no strikeouts, and Smith went 0-4 with a walk.

Lotta greene colored glasses in this thread.

I suppose you'd have to consider him the favorite seeing as he is the only guy (we know of?) that Falvey has looked at personally.

Copying this from earlier:

If he was in charge of the Twins' draft, KLaw says he would go...

Keith Law 2:13pm "Greene. Chance for a generational talent there...Greene has the raw elements to develop into a superstar and you rarely get a crack at guys like that."

Need to take the chance on a generational talent, despite the risk.

As for Rooker, he looks great. Does the fact that the Twins drafted him last year mean he will be more disposed to come to an agreement with the Twins this year?

I stopped following Kendall, as I think he's out at this point.... I'd add that I'm pretty sure there'd be an uproar around these parts if he went 1 overall... and rightfully so.

I'm guessing not... if it changes things, I don't see it changing things much. Someone like Jeremy might have a better idea there though.
