So slightly related, but at the game yesterday instead of a shot of the guys in their uniforms, all the players profile pictures on the Jumbotron were of the guys wearing business casual wear standing in front of a fancy fireplace advertising for a menswear company which I will not name as I am not going to further their advertising goals (and also I forgot the name of the company).

Company is HammerMade and they did that the second time up. First time through the order they were in uniform. This started last year.

HammerMade makes great shirts, seriously.

Upon further reflection, it's another day at the top o' the ALC.  Gahr-own-teed.

EDIT:  False.  Not gahr-own-teed.  Stupid Cleveland plays tonight.

That's what happens when you post before you think.

A little anticipation makes you appreciate it more. Its kind of like sex, if you haven't had any for awhile, the anticipation builds, and then - YES!!!

I am glad for the extra day of being undefeated.

And then it's over prematurely...

It could be worse.  It happens to me after I think, too.

Or your WBC starter runs out of gas after 70 pitches in 4 innings, your lousy rule-5 long reliever gets the call and gets shelled, leaving you ready for bed by the 7th.

There is a solution to both situations, which I routinely employ to great success, skip the thinking entirely.

I just looked it up, and this is a relatively new phenomenon too.  Somehow the Twins got by playing consecutive days to open the season through 2012.  2013 seems to be when they added this scheduled day off.

Of course, they used to often begin the season on a Friday, and they wouldn't want a Saturday off day.  Now they try to begin on a Monday, and they obviously don't care about an open date on a Tuesday.

Maybe they should just schedule the Monday game for noon, and the Tuesday game for 7 PM, which would allow them to postpone the Monday game but keep it "opening day" and make a Tuesday split doubleheader if necessary?  Honestly the odds of an opening day postponement aren't that high, and teams seem to resist the possibility even with the open date.

2012 season opener home opener was followed by an off day, as was the 2010 season. There appears to be only one season when the home opener was not followed by a day off.  It has also been a few years where there was enough season ticket holders to matter.

The Twins didn't open at home those years though. I don't think anyone here cares about an off day further into the season, it is day #2 that is a letdown.

For the record, I voted yes, but the day off really doesn't bother me.  I do hate the rally monkey, so I was left to chose between the affirmative options.  If the vote was between mass murder, cannibalism, and rally monkey, I would have to chose the lesser of two evils (Do we taste like chicken?) since the third is unthinkable.

the season home opener for the Twins has been followed by a day off pretty much since Target Field opened. I think only a few people really care that there was a day off

If memory serves me (and it usually doesn't), this is not a recent development.

OK, I looked.  No evidence I could see pre-dome.  During the dome era it wasn't necessary at home, but I found a few examples of a break on day 2 of a series for another team's home opener (not opening day)- '92 @Mil, '96, 97, & 99 @Det.   (I checked '74-82, 87-99)

If you win on opening day, you want to keep the momentum going.  If you lose on opening day, you want to get right back on that horse.  I've never understood the day off other than an excuse for the players to go out and hang one on and they need a day to recover.
