Some reason why you didn't mention the extensive trial in LF he had during his rehab this year? #sarcasm

Impressive performance today all around.

Who can explain to me what this "bunching" stuff is?

"MAY TIDBITS

So far this season, Phil Hughes has 30 strikeouts in 47 innings, and Jordan Zimmermann has 31 strikeouts in 50-and-two-thirds innings. Over their careers, Hughes has 1,000 strikeouts in 1,251-and-two-thirds innings, and Zimmermann has 1,000 strikeouts in 1,250 career innings."

Per Paul Charchian on Twitter:

"In the history of the franchise, the Astros were 0-658 when entering the 8th inning trailing by 6 or more runs. After yesterday's game against the Twins: 1-658"

If they go on a tear now, and approach 658-658, they'll have the Twins to thank.

Thank god Molitor used his "guys that can get outs" with a six run lead yesterday, instead of the fresh arms given to him specifically to avoid such a catastrophe.

Hey, Rucinski added plenty to this!

Molitor went with the right guys. Didn't work. If Wheeler got lit up we would have complained that we got beat pitching a marginal guy making his debut.

But if Wheeler and/or Rucinski had been the only relievers used yesterday, the Twins wouldn't still be short 3 relievers tonight.

Not Twins related, but potentially historic nonetheless.

The Houston Astros have won 42 of their first 58 games. The last 2 teams to have as good or better of a winning percentage at this point in the season?

1998 Yankees, who won 114 games and the WS

2001 Mariners, who won 116 games and collapsed in the playoffs.

The last Twins pitcher to have 3+ shutouts in a season was the immortal Rich Robertson back in 1996. He posted a 7-17  (5 complete games with 3 shutouts!) record with a 5.12 ERA that season.

Ah yes. Remember him well. There really was no such thing as a mediocre start with him.

Here's a weird one for you:

Only ten teams in MLB have a .500 or better record.

Well, who's surprised what with Houston and Colorado being so selfish?

And four of them sit in one division.

Not sure why, but I found this amusing:

Since May 10th, however, when Jeff published his article, the Orioles rotation has posted a 6.70 ERA (29th) and a .401 wOBA allowed (30th). Yes, the average hitter has put up a .325/.395/.552 line against the Orioles starters over their last 30 games. That is like if every batter you faced was Miguel Sano for a month. I don’t care how good your bullpen is; starting pitching like that just can’t be overcome.

This is MiLB stuff but Nick Gordon has more XBH than he did in 2016 (33 vs 32), more BB (26 vs 23) in far fewer plate appearances (298 vs 493).

Gordon is having a great year but Fort Myers and the FSL really suppress power and Chattanooga is friendly to hitters. By percentile of all parks, Fort Myers was in the 13th percentile and Chattanooga 66th according to home runs. The data was compiled a few years ago.

There's definitely a reason top prospect's numbers spike up when they leave the FSL, and Gordon's .721 OPS there in 2016 was still one of the top numbers in the league. Then he went and shredded the Arizona Fall League.

Kept telling everyone his bat was underrated, and he's proving that.

Here's something for the stat geeks to check: When was the last time a team had two different players hit 40 HR in consecutive years?

Two guys at the same time in back-to-back years?
