Badsmerf Verified Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 So I know of a few people like to follow for intellectual insight, but wanted to start a topic to see what others enjoy reading. Not restricted to any topic, just curious what everyone is into.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 538FangraphsThe Dish (Keith Law's site)...books, music, cooking, games, baseball chats.... That's about all I have left, since Grantland and firejoemorgan went away.... I also used to be active on ENWorld and footballs future, but I play D&D less and less, and footballs future Viking's site is just too serious now...I still go to both, but less and less.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I also miss Grantland. The No Smerfs facebook page is usually hopping though.... (Full circle!)
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Do youtube compilations of people falling down count as websites?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Do youtube compilations of people falling down count as websites?I like the elaborate 'candid camera' type ones where they scare people.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Deadspin and its' sister/brother sites, 538, AVClub, Stumbleupon, CNNAlso miss Grantland. The Ringer is not even close to the same quality of material they had before.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I find it hard to believe the Grantland replacement is still running, frankly....
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I don't read it regularly, but The Onion is something I do read from time to time.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I find it hard to believe the Grantland replacement is still running, frankly....As am I. There's got to be quite a few of us who used to be daily Grantland visitors and didn't follow them to The Ringer. Gave them a shot when they got started, but they don't seem to write about any subject particularly well.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I find it hard to believe the Grantland replacement is still running, frankly.... I still frequent it from time to time, but I think it's going to die just like Simmons' show did. There is just something missing.

There is just something missing.Yeah, it's losing money big time. Simmons needs to go back to his 30 for 30 days, bring on other talented folks to create compelling documentaries etc Simmons is a good podcaster at this stage, not much else IMO

He looked mostly uncomfortable on TV and lacked any sort of charm... And he's too far gone from his writing days. Loved his columns back when he was on Page 2 of ESPN.com, now he writes a mailed in column once every 6 months.

Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Oh my. I have no idea what this tweet is about, but I love it. https://twitter.com/StatFreak101/status/802618771676332032
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Now that Joe broke it wide open, this could become a 'Best of StatFreak' thread.
joethastud Provisional Member Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 I like a best of thread idea, but even reading a page worth of those tweets makes me shudder. So, I'll let Dave do the leg-work to get it done.

DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 According to that last tweet he liquidated the statfreak one on one baseball academy and opened up a less family friendly one on one academy....
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Oy ... /barf is saying it lightly.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Since we were bashing Simmons before, it's only fair to point out something good too. And his recent article on The Ringer, "Simmons vs. Gladwell: The Future of Football" is one of the best articles I've read from him in a long time.
