twinssporto Verified Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Welcome back to the always exciting, always riveting and always sunny Twins Daily Game Thread! The end of summer is almost nigh. For many, the end of summer brings up feelings of sadness. For others, the impending Fall and Winter months are as welcoming as a warm spring day. Thinking about the impending season change got me pondering more about life. Go back to when you were a young child. Think about all of the friends and relationships we have developed or nurtured through the years. Elementary school, middle school, high school, college, work relationships, church, girlfriends, boyfriends, neighbors, Twins Daily members…. Yes, I want to do a shout out to all of the Twins Daily members I’ve had the privilege of interacting with this year. As a relatively new member on this site I have to say I’ve had a great time posting back and forth with so many new cyber friends. Since we have not actually met face-to-face and only talk via short posts on the Game Thread, I decided to call out some of the more frequent posters to the Game Thread. Think of it as a tribute of sorts. With a Twins season so dismal while also riding a 12 game losing streak some of the more hardcore fans on this site need to be recognized. You need to be recognized for your zeal and also your continued passion. Please remember, I have never met any of the people that are listed below. I am simply trying to pay tribute to some of my new cyber friends and die hard Twins fans that have suffered along with me this season. To my good cyber friends! A tribute and a toast to you: Riverbrian – What a great writer! Thanks for always taking on the series opener. Riverbrian loves rivers. His favorite song is “I love that dirty water” by the Standells. USAFChief – Chief is actually a really nice old guy. His bark is worse than his bite. Keeps us all in line. Secretly he still sleeps with a teddy bear and volunteers as a candy striper at local hospitals. Craig Arko – Always has a quick wit. Owns 14 telescopes and watched original Star Wars 39 times. Thinks the Apollo 11 moon landing was a fraud. Vanimal46 – Vanimal posts some great pics! He is a veterinary assistant. Dislikes most animals and MLB teams with an animal or bird as a mascot. Ashburyjohn – Ashburyjohn always has a great sense of humor. Ash Trees in his yard have the Emerald Ash Borer.ChiTownTwinsFan – Always the polite one in the group. Uncanny ability to sum posts up quickly. Most don’t know it but ChiTown is one of the world’s leading DJ’s. Cranks out tunes until 5am every weekend. One of the few women that post regularly. Twinsnorth49 – Twinsnorth49 has a real sharp wit. Always funny. Loves computers and writing code 01010101. He stole Tom Kites glasses years ago at a PGA event. Still wears them today.Platoon – Always quick with the compliments. Total opposite of an Army guy. Secretly wanted to be in the Coast Guard. Obviously his favorite movie was “Platoon”. Halsey Hall – Very knowledgeable about the Twins. Retired submarine guy. Will quietly swear under his breath at other drivers on the road. Pity the soul that tries to ever car jack Halsey. Pardon My Dinger – Another poster with a sharp intellect. Some say a dry sense of humor. Has on tape every Emilio Estevez movie ever made. Spycake – All posts are very direct and to the point. Very logical thinker. Hacks computer networks late at night. Enjoys dropping an occasional virus onto TD member’s computers.Wsnydes – Always a conscientious poster. Loves golf but has never broke 100. Feels personally responsible for the Twins losing season.Winston Smith – Always the humorist. Moved overseas to escape some “legal” trouble. Loves beers and German woman.Danchat – Danchat is a very direct and straightforward contributor. Doesn’t give anyone slack. Talks quickly on the phone without saying hello or goodbye.Hosken Bombo Disco – One of the happier and honest fellows in the bunch. Always quick with a like. Has seen every Disney movie and actually has a rainbow and lollipop garden.Aggies7 – Aggie7 is one of the more popular and most respected contributors on the Game Threads. Somewhat sarcastic but a real push over. Always volunteers at church and regularly donates money to Goodwill and Salvation Army. Deduno Abides – The philosopher of the group. A real Joe cool. Kind of like an Indian Yogi. Loves the herbs and organic food mostly.70charger – Hard charging poster. Loves the 70’s and is always comparing Rod Carew to everyone else.Operation Mindcrime – Another quick witted poster here…Operation Mindcrime just retired as one of the top murder investigators in Minnesota. Now is working with Twins F.O. to determine what cause the total system failure.LaBombo – One of my favorites. Always quick with a great pic or comment. Still plays Dungeons and Dragons but doesn’t pester people to play with him. Likes the Rubix Cube too.Willihammer – Brings a certain brand of integrity to our posts. Funny but serious at the same time. Threw the discus and shotput in college. Never mastered the hammer throw.HitInAPinch – Another friendly participant that is well versed in Twins history. Just a pinch between the check and gum (closet chewer)..Still a great person!Spinowner – Edgy poster with some great sarcasm. Political Science major and has worked for both the Dems and Republicans. A true undecided.sampleSizeOfOne – On top of every play. Also quick with posts about bunting. Tuba playing machine…Lives in NY but hates the Yankees too. What more can you ask?glunn – Glunn is a serious person. Long time Twins fan. He stays serious because he lives in Beverly Hills, California. Has only had limited plastic surgery done.jimmer – Posts some very funny comments. Dry humor to boot. Military guy now going soft after retirement. May work as a Twins usher at Target Field to yell at inattentive fans.Mike Sixel – Great writer that takes this seriously. Secretly posts in comments section of other websites trolling people on how they can earn $100/hr. selling Shaklee products. Go Twins! Game time weather: Partly cloudy and 78 degrees. 0% chance of rain. Lineups to follow....Trying to catch a plane. Sorry!

Platoon Verified Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 The big question is who crashes and burns first? Chief in his Experimental Aircraft? Or Pat Dean as our Experimental SP?
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 The big question is who crashes and burns first? Chief in his Experimental Aircraft? Or Pat Dean as our Experimental SP?This is a Zen Koan.

ashbury Verified Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 This is a Zen Koan. No, this is a Zen Koan: The nephew of the famed Zen master Hakuin was an accomplishedyoung musician. Quanhuo, named in honor of a wise Ch'an master, was trained in all eight of the tones: silk, bamboo, wood, stone, metal, clay, gourd and animal hide. His most outstandingtalent was in playing the Se, the 25-stringed zither with movablebridges. His Se transcriptions of melodies from Zhu Zaiyu broughthim renown, first in his own humble village and eventuallythroughout the province. When he was only a young man, he received an invitation fromthe emperor's palace, to come perform at the greatest concerthall in Beijing. Quanhuo felt this was an opportunity he could hardly pass up,as it was his chance for wealth for himself and for his familyif he made a very good impression upon the royalty. He borrowedenough money to arrange travel to the capital city, with promisesthat he would pay his benefactors double when he made his fortune. On the appointed day, he arrived in the city. It was by far thelargest place he had ever seen. When he reached the center ofthis overwhelming city, he approached a member of the militaryguard. "A thousand pardons. Please, how do I get to the famous concerthall on Bei Xin Hua Jie?" he asked. "Practice," said the officer, kindly. At that, Quanhuo was enlightened, and returned home at once toresume his musical studies. Unfortunately, his creditors found out about this stupid blunder, and learning that he had no more money they beat him to death, then came to his uncle seeking compensation. And at that, Hakuinwas enlightened; he forsook further study and contemplation, andfinally got a job. And at that, the game thread participants were enlightened.

D. Hocking Verified Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Er, which one is Chief? Gotta be one of those flapping his arms up and down..... None of them are Chief - he was wary of flight experiments by then. When he was in school, one of his friends had a deadly flight. His peer made some wings out of feather and wax, and after a good start flew too close to the sun. He is still haunted by it after all these many, many years.

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Just over 30,000 for this entire series? Well done, Cleveland.
