Who should be the next GM?

The bar is set really low at this point, not much room to go anywhere but up. Should be an atractive job and there are only 30 of them.

And no to Torii, we need to less ex Twins in the country club and more new blood.

Top of my list Dan Kantrovitz, Assistant GM of the A's.  He's only 37 and has spent the last 14 years split between the A's and the Cards (doing 2 stints with each).  He was director of Scouting for the Cards; in charge of oversight of statistical analysis for evaluating and targeting players in the draft, free agency and trades; and extensive international operations experience for the A's.  He also has a Masters in Statistics from Harvard.  Billy Beane's sidekick, but with extra experience in the Card's front office, so he knows how to win.

Good pedigree working with the Cards, and knows what a real budget constraint feels like working with the A's. I'd be interested in speaking to him if I were Jim Pohlad.

Agreed. Believe it or not, there are good, talented people that live and work outside of the land of 10,000 lakes. Let's try to find those people.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Cubs Assistant GM Randy Bush.  Retained by Theo Epstein after serving as Interim GM for the Cubs when Hendry left.   Obviously a former Twin, who seems to specialize in the scouting aspect of things for the Cubs.   The Cubs have done well in amateur scouting of late, and must be doing well with advance scouting based on their success on the field the past two years.  I can't help but think scouting and development are two areas that the Twins have really struggled with of late.

Thoughts on Randy or other candidates?

Well, I'm sold. But not a chance in hell this actually happens.

Why not?  He interviewed with the Phillies and Brewers last year so it looks he is open to leaving Oakland.  Forst was just hired last year, so he's probably not eyeing the position there.

Not because he wouldn't be interested, but because the Twins wouldn't be interested in having such a statistically-capable GM. Dave St. Peter is undoubtedly afraid that too many numbers have frazzled his brain and will keep him from being able to recognize which players will really "show some hustle" and "get after it out there""

Prove me wrong DSP, prove me wrong!

Yep, the news that St Peter is basically leading the search, and will work above the new hire, pretty much eliminates any forward thinking candidate, IMO.

Just a thought. How about Jeremy Shelley from the Giants. You can't deny their success or his role in it. http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2015/9/24/9394611/sf-giants-gm-bobby-evans   I'm a little skeptical about taking a Cubs assistant GM. They haven't been together very long and I'm more inclined to give the credit for their success to Epstein and Hoyer.

Quite a few good candidates mentioned so far and I'd be hard pressed to pick one without more information.

I have no idea... no way of having any idea.

I'd like outside the organization just to be safe.

I'd like younger... New School with just a tish of old school still present.

I'd like someone without tunnel vision... Someone with the ability to compare and contrast what other clubs are doing and steal what's working.

I'd like someone from an organization that has done a lot of consistent winning in case it's a learned habit.

I'd like someone who agrees with me that Joe Maddon is heads and shoulders above everybody else at the manager level.

I like the idea of Torii having a role with the Twins organization....but absolutely not GM!!

Clubhouse party coordinator?  That's about as high as he should go.

Good news! Pohlad is comparing all the media guides as we speak.

Reds pitcher Ross Ohlendorf - majored in Operations Research and Financial Engineering at Princeton. His thesis developed analysis to estimate return on investment in the MLB draft, parts of which are in use in the league today.

And a guy who was traded for Randy Johnson to boot.

Along with Antony, internal candidates such as scouting director Deron Johnson, Vice President of Baseball Operations Mike Radcliff and special assistant to the GM Wayne Krivsky could pursue the job as well. “We’ve always wanted to promote from within,” Pohlad said, “so [Antony] will certainly be a prime [candidate].”

Well, I gave my honest opinion of Ryan's 2nd tenure /contributions to our future and I was told to stop it by my personal public chastising moderator, so I thought I'd drop this quote and let others who are allowed to give their opinions say what they had to say :-)

Common sense should dictate that if you are dealing with a "total system failure" it would be unwise to promote someone to GM who has learned on the job and operated wholly within that system for the past 30 years and expect that person to make the necessary corrections.
