Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 This really makes me so sad as a fan, all kidding aside. The worst thing to happen to this team was the success of last year. It gave extensions, kept people from being let go and placed tons of expectations on players who just aren't very good. And we've already seen the prospects of other clubs legitimately catching on and contributing. And ours are given praise for making contact. And they're still scoring. God help us. HitInAPinch Verified Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Solid bullpen management once again!IDK. Jepsen kinda looks the same....
David HK Verified Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Haw haw haw--- Posting this, I've got the TD page blocking out the mlbtv, but I don't need to watch. I can hear how loud the Sox are smacking that ball around. Holy cow. Where's that little smiley that laughs so hard it cries?
Platoon Verified Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Miguel Sano leads the Twins with 27 RBI. Boston has SIX players with more than that. Including one with more than DOUBLE that. I know it's fashionable to think RBI is a meaningless stat. I do not concur. EDIT: With that 2 run double, make it seven players with more than Sano's 27. I don't think it's a meaningless stat at all. Some guys are simply better at staying themselves under pressure. The worst aren't in MLB, the best are the ones you don't want to face with men on base. It's not perfect at all, but over time can be indicative. David HK, HitInAPinch and USAFChief 3

LaBombo Verified Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 (edited) Well, the Twins finally did something this year to make me feel good about them. Sort of. Was wearing my throwback 70's Twins t-shirt and a guy from my neighborhood was walking his dog and commented that the shirt choice was a 'show of optimism!' We talked about the Twins sucking and other stuff for half an hour.or so. So, thanks for reeking like a dead fish, 2016 Twins! Due to the uniquely human phenomenon of bonding in the face of shared misery, I now know a cool neighbor that I didn't before! LaBombo Verified Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 So was it Jim Pohlad or Terry Ryan? Sort of looked like a younger Terry Ryan, minus either the scowl or the turd-eating contest runner up looks that Terry has been sporting these days... http://www.twincities.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-20140929__9-29TerryRyan.jpg operation mindcrime 1
Platoon Verified Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 It's kind of sad actually. Obviously I still watch and care. But there is not even any angst anymore. It's repetive and numbing. There is no reason to check the standings, unless morbid curiousity drives you to the NL Cellar Dweller. The players don't seem to care, Molitor looks confused, and Ryan still looks stern. Jim Pohlad has had two interviews, and can't even script righteous indignation! UGH operation mindcrime, Blake, David HK and 1 other 4
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 We've reached the whiny, depressing voice that Dick usually employs about the 6th or 7th inning when things are firmly off track. LaBombo 1

jimmer Verified Member Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 (edited) In 2016, one of the big reasons why Howard won MVP over Pujols was because he had 149 RBI and Pujols had 137. Howard hit .256/.426/.518 with RISP.Pujols hit .397/.535/..802 with RISP. So who performed better with RISP? The guy with more RBI or the guy with 12 less RBI? Could it be that the 53 more PA with RISP helped Howard get more RBI? Andruw jones almost won MVP when he led the league in RBI with a whopping 128. He batted .207/.335/.386 with RISP. Look at those numbers, but he led the league in RBI. Maybe having 230 PA with RISP helped. Boston leads the majors in OBP. They lead in OBP by a lot in the AL. Their players have way more opportunities for RBI due to having runners on a bunch. It's not that RBI is worthless, just as a standalone stat with no other info it doesn't really tell us whether or not the guy really does well with RISP or not. But Terry Ryan loves the RBI stat, so it must mean a lot. Edited June 11, 2016 by jimmer formerly33 and LaBombo 2
