Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 On radio also, still waiting if the crowd stayed after delay. They don't hear us radio listeners..... I believe I recall Provus saying a lot of the people left. Can't say I blame them, given how this was mismanaged.
FattCrapps Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Buxton on pace for a zillion strikeouts.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 (edited) FIVE INNINGS INTO THE SEASON, DAVE.To follow up, you can call this over-reacting all you want. I knew well before this appearance (as did most others) that Fien is not a good pitcher, he has a 3.81 career XFIP in the majors (3.72 as a Twin) and is past the point where he has any real upside. Giving that guy a bullpen spot, much less a key role in the bullpen on a "contending" team is a recipe for a disaster. This terrible 2/3rds of an inning is just further proof. 3.81 is pretty terrible for a RP btw. Ditto with putting Sano in RF Edited April 4, 2016 by DaveW
Danchat Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 It'll be interesting to see how Fien fares in the bullpen. I used to like the guy, but his leash has got to be getting shorter. I want to see him succeed, but if he continues to pitch like this...
Minniman Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Buxton is waiting too long to swing. It does not look good. I hope I am just seeing something that isn't there.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Okay, Sano ... time to show that athleticism and unleash one!
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Buxton on pace for a zillion strikeouts.Yeah, I still think starting him in the majors this year is a mistake. I would have liked to see him get some confidence in AAA for a few weeks at the very least. Could have signed Span, could have kept Hicks etc to provide OF/CF depth in meantime.
TwinsCD Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Sano still swinging for the fences on just about every pitch. Yep, these seem to be roughly the same Twins I left back in September. =) LaBombo 1
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Maybe Givens is good? Made all of our hitters look silly. Minniman 1
KirbyHawk75 Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 It still is nice to have a power hitter like Sano up there that can tie a game with one swing. Sadly there will also be a lot of swing and misses.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Dude, there's no defending making snap judgments five innings into opening day. That's all there is to the conversation. As for your last paragraph, I kinda agree. I didn't want Fien on this team. I don't like the guy and think he's toast. But five innings. Come on.Maybe you two should get a room.
Minniman Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Givens looked as good for the Orioles as Fien looked bad for the Twins.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Maybe you two should get a room. We are fine, in his heart Brock knows he agrees 100% with me. He just has to remain neutral these days. LaBombo 1
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Givens looked as good for the Orioles as Fien looked bad for the Twins.Impossible!
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 oof. Offense roaring out of the gates again. Need to request skipping opening day next year.
KirbyHawk75 Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I am still concerned about Buxton... I always said last season that Buxton should have never been called up. That was a huge mistake. I still think he belongs in the minors. He, along with Sano and Berrios are the future of the Twins.

DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 One question:When you know opening day is the next day, what is the point on using any of your major league bullpen arms in the last exhibition game of the season? Especially when said game had a 60-80% chance of rain. Intramural Legend 1

Minniman Verified Member Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Well, ... looks like the same Twins bullpen. I am not looking forward to watching these guys take the mound.

Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Ah yeah, I guess it was Saturday. Still though, why have Tonkin (or anyone) go 50 pitches effectively leaving him unavailable for opening day? It's a fair question. Dunno. Seems kinda pointless.
