ESPN forced Erin Andrews to discuss her stalker

Pretty shady stuff, if you believe the report.  Before she was allowed back on air, ESPN required her to do an interview to stop the claims that she was in on the peeping tom videos. 

 

I know this was a long time ago but I sure don't remember rumors that she did it for publicity but apparently they were out there.

Other than live sports, and really that's only limited to the occasional Twins or Vikings game, I don't see any reason to turn it to that channel anymore. Life is too short to listen to the Stephen A. Smith's of the world....

Yeah I never understood the "oh she was behind the leaks" crowd, it was obviously a ****ty situation/stalker situation. I know a lot of people and the media were like "Oh well, it could have been worse, its not like the guy hurt her or whatever" but I don't think people realized how emotionally ****ed up it would be to go through the situation.

Yeah, I remember a lot of posts on the old ESPN message boards saying something like - "she looks really good naked, she should be proud, not offended."  Which totally ignored that there was a creepy dude 20 feet away from her behind a door video taping her and then shared with millions of strangers.  It had to be scary as hell.

No words for that. Really. And while there are many who know better and get it, there are so many that are so completely unaware at how clueless and unenlightened they truly are. And the suggestions come out at how somehow she was involved or responsible in any way is just disgusting. And then be put in a position like she was, in order to keep her job? I often feel like the world I live in is 2 steps forward, 3 steps back.

The NFL Network should probably follow suit and make sure that Chris Jones guy who's junk flopped out while he was running the 40 at the NFL combine didn't secretly cut a hole in his pants to show off his goods.

 

What a bunch of BS. Too bad Andrews didn't go public with these demands right away and sue ESPN for defamation or something for even suggesting this. She could get hired anywhere.

Here's the article on her lawsuit with Marriott. That guy ruined her life and her career, and he only got 2 1/2 years in jail? Sad, but not surprising, not in the world I come from.

It's a ****ed up system ... it really pisses me off. I can't imagine what she must've gone through ... be going through ... I was the subject of minor internet bullying last year and was pretty shook up myself over that, and I was only mildly infamous (one large city rather than multiple large countries), and they didn't have a picture of me (luckily at the time all my social media profile photos were a Twins #VoteDozier pic), and I remember thinking over and over to myself that I was so glad they didn't have a picture of me ... who knows what they would've done. I was terrified they were going to find a picture of me and turn it into a popular meme or something. If I was naked, I think I would have killed myself. And anyone who puts someone through that deserves to get a sentence comparable to murder.

New Deadspin article this afternoon. Mariott lawyers are trying to bring up the fact that she's gained endorsements and her career hasn't suffered since the incident. 

I suppose that's the only way for Mariott to stop the bleeding on this one, but it's disgusting what they're doing. They're basically justifying that even though we caused you this damage, you've done well since then. So no harm no foul, right? Gross. Just gross.

People suck. Well, not all people, but enough that it can be depressing (or, choose your word) sometimes. This is one of those times. Men, especially imo, we really have a large percentage that have no idea how awful they are toward women.

But her career HAS suffered as well as her life. Marriott was as culpable as well as the man who did this. Marriott gets no sympathy from me on this.

In my job I do some outreach on legal rights and such.  It's occasionally controversial so we are always prepared for some crazies but only one time did that actually happen.  At one of these things, some guy was demanding to know how I felt about the Men's Rights stuff, which I didn't even know was a thing.  He was pretty intense.  He had some pretty ugly views about women and recommended a certain website that could almost be considered a hate group, I think.  His main "point" (as it was) was that women used sex to cow docile men to make society do what they want while "real men" (him) get ****ed over.  So, yeah.

Yeah Mariott basically knows they are ****ed and are throwing a hail mary (and most likely are bringing up her endorsements and stuff to show that she has a decent amount of money already in hopes that the jury will come back and award a smaller reward)

ESPN has somehow become truly loathesome. It's too bad because their commercials were second to none and SportsCenter was appointment television. They were a pioneer.
