Notes from Terry Ryan's Tuesday Media Briefing

Terry Ryan met with reporters tonight (as he does every day). Here are a few tidbits from the Twitter handles of Rhett Bollinger, Mike Berardino and LaVelle E. Neal:

  • He's talked to Brian Duensing and Blaine Boyer and has said that they will move on from them.
  • Johan Santana will not be brought back. He wants the prospects to believe they have a chance.
  • Nothing immenent. Nothing is close or just a phone call away.
  • Twins unlikely to make a Rule 5 pick on Thursday.
  • Haven't met with Joe Nathan... not planning to have any reclamation projects this year.

May add more here if you read anything.

Also, Doogie tweeted that the Twins heard a pitch from Henderson Alvarez today but they're not interested. They're focusing on left-handed relievers.

From Rhett:

Terry Ryan: "We’re more zeroed in. This is a unique Winter Meetings for us because we’re not branched out too deep. We know what we want."

I think all of the above is good news. Moving on from Duensing and Boyer, dismissing scrap heap options and hinting left handed relief options.

That's a first. I'd still be game to take a shot on Cliff Lee.

I like what I am hearing, re: Boyer, Duensing, reclamation projects, rule 5 picks eating up spots on the roster.

I'm all for giving Meyer, Burdi, Rodgers, Chargois, Reed, Tonkin, and O'Rourke a chance. But I agree that if they do add anyone it should be lefty.

I was gonna post a thread on this. However Lee will certainly have plenty of suitors, I have a hard time believing Minnesota will be on the top of his list.

Yankees, Red Sox, Cards, Mariners, Rangers, all jump to mind for a landing spot for Lee

Leave HBO out of this

Off topic

True story, I was in Deadwood a few years back and was pulled from the crowd to take part in the reenactment of Wild Bill's shooting at Saloon 10, starring none other than the guy from the show.

I played the bartender, and I had lines and everything ....my kids were petrified I was going to get shot.

It was hilarious, but that guy should really move on

If it was last year, it might have been a 10th anniversary thing.

If the guy you are referring to in regards to moving on is the guy who played Wild Bill, he's been plenty busy since Deadwood including playing Lou in Season One of Fargo and now in Madam Secretary.

Side note, he also played in Wild Bill (about Bill Hickok) but he was Buffalo Bill Cody.

Loved to watch Lee pound the strikezone [and not in the Phil Hughes way].  I just don't understand the interest.  He's now 37 [38 at the end of Aug.] and has missed darn near 2 years because of injuries.  And that's not counting the injuries throughout the years.  Pass, sadly.

No, it wasn't the guy who played Wild Bill, that was Keith Carradine, and it was 6 years ago. The main actor play the sheriff in the reenactment, I'm sure in the real show he had some bit part because it wasn't Timothy Olyphant.

They are zeroed in on 1-2 things. Hopefully their aim is true.

Good news on the reclamation projects.

I found the wording interesting on that "wants the prospects to believe they have a shot".......do they have a shot, or do they just want them to think they have a shot?

If they are zeroed in on 1-2 things.....does that mean they think they are only 1-2 players away from being awesome?

He said "things," not "players."

1-2 things...like, scoring runs and preventing them.

That "big investment" into sabremetrics is paying off huge!

"According to our 18 month study, the key to winning games is scoring more runs then your opponent in a 9 inning game"
