I think we should sign Ortiz sometime in 2017, just for one day, so that he can retire a Twin.

Can Ortiz be forced to retire a Twin against his will?

Is there a Twins cult that could abduct and brainwash him?

TR would release him before the ceremony.

Has there ever been a bigger attention hound in the game than Ortiz?  This might make the going away tour of Jeter look like a blip on the radar screen.

The whole "retirement tour" certainly is in vogue right now.

Somehow I feel A-Rod doesn't do this though... ;)

Ortiz is a hypocrite.

Ortiz is beloved in Boston. Maybe (hopefully) they don't make as big a deal about it when the BoSox play away games. But in Boston it'll be a big deal, and rightfully so, imo, despite any personal feelings.

That said ... I don't like these 'going away' tours.

To make space for Matthew LeCroy

Technically, Ortiz's 40-man roster spot immediately went to Rule 5 draft pick Jose Morban, who we lost on waivers when attempting to return him to his original team after spring training.

But yeah, Ortiz's presumed DH spot in 2003 went to Matthew LeCroy.

Actually if you dig further, you will notice LeCroy spent at least two-thirds of the 2002 season on the 25-man roster, so he was already basically part of the team.  In that light, Ortiz's 25-man roster spot in 2003 could be considered to have gone to Chris Gomez, as we generally did not employ a second utility infielder in 2002.
