Maybe the Twins should offer Meyer, Rosario and Arcia for Gomez(assuming we can sign him to an extension)

we have enough CF, I would rather try to sell the Mets on Rosario or Hicks as an immediate upgrade in return for Wheeler and Flores

Yeah. The last thing the Twins need is another centerfielder. If anything, they should leverage one of the CF they have for a position of need.

Very odd:

"UPDATE, 12:26 AM ET: FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal says the Mets actually canceled the deal over long-term concerns about Gomez’s hip. Gomez missed some time earlier this season with a right hip issue, but he has played in all but one of the Brewers’ games since June 23. Another odd turn."

I don't think I'd give up Hicks right now.  After yesterday's game, he's now hitting .288.  He just has to get over the alligator-arms thing as he's running towards the wall.

Thank you for saying the exact same thing I did, this post has little value at all and serves nothing more than to just waste the communities time.

Wheeler has years of control right?  Not sure why the Mets would do this. But this is the team that signed Cuddy to a two year deal and lost a pick.

Par for the course I guess.

Doug Melvin said he nixed the deal over Wheeler, Rosenthal said it was over Gomez. This was a weird one.

Even when you two agree, you can't agree!

There are many ways to improve your team.  Is Gomez - Hicks > _________ - Esco/Santana or Santana/Esc for Dave, or ___________ - Suzuki?  To me, Gomez is a significant upgrade, probably more so than any catcher or SS we'd be able to snag.  The price seems pretty steep however.

Gomez is a big upgrade over Rosario.  The rest is just sending extra prospects to snag Gomez(need to sign to extension as part of the deal)

After this year, Wheeler has 4 years of control left, but only 1 pre-arb year left, and he still has to show he is recovered from surgery. And his pre-injury performance, while promising, wasn't THAT great.

And this is an area of immense strength for the Mets -- they have 4 young starters in MLB right now arguably better than Wheeler. They could afford to deal him for a multi-year asset.

I hope your evaluation wasn't based entirely from Wednesday's game.

Undoubtedly the funniest part of this story is the quote by the one and only Scott Boras, rejecting the notion that this fell apart because of Gomez hip.  Keep in mind he will be 30 in December.

"He's in first-class physical condition without issue," Boras said. "We monitor our players closely. If there was ever an issue with him, we would have him seen by experts in a particular area. He has not been seen by any outside physicians this year. Other than a hamstring issue, he's been in great physical health. He plans on playing in the big leagues for the next 15 years."

Well, we all know Gomez will sign back here at age 40, so it's really just a question of how many years we re-sign him after that. :)

Just give the guy a 5 year deal at 40.

Now apparently Gomez to the Astros along with Fiers for four minor leaguers. We'll see who starts crying now.

Tremendous deal for the Brewers. I really like Hader and Santana.

And if it goes through, we probably have a good idea of which of the Mets or Brewers is lying when they say "No...WE'RE the ones who backed out!"
