One thing I would have done is PH for Rosario against the LH reliever tonight, down 1-0, one out and Plouffe on third.

 

What's Nunez purpose on this team if not to come in and get the ball out of the infield there.

At least Molly realized that Nunez isn't a better option, Rosario has hit LHP pretty well and since he is a key part of the future I don't mind having him hit in big situations.

This is an assumption......I am assuming the don't think Pinto is good enough to catch 1-2 times per week and that's why Herman is up.  If they brought up Pinto, I would think they would carry 3 catchers, which.....would it be that much of a better bench?

Yes. You don't need two util guys on the bench in Escobar and Nunez, Nunez especially who doesn't field even averagely anywhere. At least Pinto gives you a PH option off the bench, and I still think he can handle 1 game a week catching, just make sure its for a veteran like Milone or Hughes and he will be fine.

Molitor agonized about this in the post-game. I hope it made him nostalgic for his past days as manager with only a 12 man pitching staff.

A bench of Pinto, Nunez, Arcia/Vargas and I can live with Robinson/Schafer for now. Trade out Escobar for Nunez when you find a shortstop.

The makeup of the bench is just another of many examples demonstrating that the Twins are really still rebuilding. They have a good W-L record at the moment but that's just a pleasant accident. That doesn't mean that prospects can't be brought up, but we shouldn't do it if we think it will hurt their development and we shouldn't expect .300 BA's and a postseason berth if we do.

Perkins in the infield is solid enough, but does cause late game situations when he has to close.

 

Not much question Pelf is the top bench bat, but I prefer him at 1B over the OF. Sure he has the arm for out there, but resembles a lumbering giraffe at times.

 

Anxious to see what Tonkin looks like behind the plate when Zuke actually has a day off.
