So of Brian's different options as home openers, which best characterized this game?

(if someone actually cares, go ahead and set up a poll)

My initial reaction to "blue ice" was the eyes of the others in the song of fire and ice, but having not read them in several years, and not following much of the hbo series, i can't really comment usefully there on.

But does anyone have dragons we can bring to tomorrow's game? No? Just a thought...

Thanks to all who sweated it out.

Tomorrow is an off-day. A brief reprieve.  But go ahead and round up some dragons for Wednesday.

I hope the cavalry is coming over the hill soon. This group looks like it can easily top 100 losses this year, especially if they keep getting pwned by the division rivals.

Had to pause while I took my kids out to walk the dog. So, I'm still watching this debacle...it isn't getting any better..

We might as well have kept Gardy. I mean, he couldn't have been much worse than Molly - and if he was, the difference would be insignificant. Why bring in Molly but give him a bad team? I think it's pretty cruel. You've got to sorta sympathize with the man.

Anyway, I kinda miss Gardy. At least he had 1068 wins instead of 1.

Well, at least 1 is an easier number to remember.

On a lighter note, Fort Myers is winning 5-0 in the top of the 2nd, and they're not done yet.

And on another light note,

Rochester Red Wings  ‏@RocRedWings  · 8m8 minutes ago
Aaron Hicks knocks in two more...this time with a triple and the Wings lead 5-1 mid 4. Hicks is 3 for 3 w/ a 2B, 3B & 4 RBI.

And a note on this light note.

Hicks has a stolen base and an assist.  and oh ya that triple was against a right hander.

I wasn't at the game and didn't watch the game. However, I did compound a rotten day at work by spending too much time watching ESPN Gamecast.

In summary, was Aaron Thompson the lone star? Or can we count Plouffe's home run as building trade value?

Still, I feel like I would rather watch May fight through innings rather than Pelfrey, Nolasco or Touchdown Tommy Milone. Am I alone on that?

Let's also note that Buxton went 4 for 6 with a double and a triple.

I actually thought May was great through 5 and I think once our pathetic defense let more runners on he imploded and lost confidence. He was only at like 70 pitches I believe and had been cruising. He was getting ahead and changing things up. Striking people out. I have watched every game and I think that minus the bad defense, this was our best start yet. May had lots of quick outs.

This roster is a joke, but do we want the youngsters up just to fill the stands?

We do not want early free agency for players that do make it or players that are not ready being set back by bringing them up too soon. The combination would be a killer.

Danny Ortiz with a great game for Rochester

2-3 , BB , HR (1) ! He'd be a great 4th OF 'er one day for a team with 3 stud starters that are primarily RH.

Oh wait we don't have that.

...............Free Oswaldo Arcia Free him! ...............

I didn't see the game, can you tell those of us who missed the game how the defense once again let us down?

May got hammered in the 6th--his pitches were flat and "up".  Arcia actually caught one that I didn't think he had a chance. But the bullpen...let me be generous and say "they didn't minimize". Two on, two in, no outs--and HBP, HBP,  then a ridiculous error, and then even more... .  It wasn't all due to bad defense--but I didn't see many Twins pitchers miss bats (Ks) either, and there were plenty of hard-hit balls by KC hitters.

Twins miscues. Some were not errors, but plays that should be made 80 percent of the time

1 Ball under doziers glove

2 the double play where santana took his foot off the bag

3 the same dp. Mauer failed to scoop the ball

4 the other missed dp where dozier back handed and under handed it 40 feet

5 the pop up that went off arcia's glove. When moving forward and a pop up goes off your glove, that should be an error

6 torii misses the cut off man

7 arcia going back to his left. Tough play, but he was clueless amd gave himself no chance

On the other hand, gordon made a tough play. Rios made two. And escobar made one.

Btw, I am on replay and am only at the 7th inning stretch. Thus is so embarrasing.

At 2-21 with 7 K's it would seem Trevor Plouffe's job is safe. He has looked horrible in every AB I have seen this year. June/July & Sano cannot get here soon enough.

Yea Trevor has been awful this year.

Embarrassing, Yes.

Surprising, No.

This is bad enough that it makes me think that my prediction of being 15 games out of 1st place by May 15 wasn't realistic enough.

Did anyone else notice on the dribbler up the middle that Dozier and Santana missed, Santana was running to cover behind but wasn't actually trying to play the ball until too late. He was expecting it to be played instead of actually covering the play.

If they can start the year 2-9 they'll be on pace to equal the same start as the 91 World Series champions
. I think the number 91 will be in vogue this year again!

Hmm....  I believe you've just coined a phrase that will see a lot of usage as the season progresses.

Santana must have been playing very deep in hole because second base guy doesn't usually go 5-10 feet to the SS side of second to field a ground ball. Yet Santana was basically right behind Dozier. And then it went under both their gloves. Weird play. One of many, today. Santana probably needs to take a more aggressive angle towards that ball. Off the bat it looked like it might be a routine groundout to short.

Fly ball to short left, Arcia slides and bounces off his glove in fair territory.

Fly ball to deel left center, tough but catchable, Arcia misses.

Fly ball to deep right, tough but catchable, Hunter doesn't catch then misses the cutoff man. Triple.

Dribbler up the middle, Morales (or maybe Perez) running Dozier plays when he should have let Santana get it. Single.

Double play ball hit to Dozier, backhand flips from about 45 feet, comes up short, forces Santana off the bag to catch, rushes his relay to 1B. One hopper Mauer can't handle. No out recorded, runners on 1b and 2b.

I feel like I'm missing a dropped popup...

With the bases loaded and nobody out... A fairly routine 6-2-3 Double play ball is bobbled by Santana in the 8th inning. No outs are made and the Royals go one to score 6 in the inning.
