Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 I'm terrified he's going to play well enough to convince the Twins he's the starting left fielder in 2015, at which point we get a repeat of thinking SS was filled going into 2014.Not me... TC Bear is all that scares me. I often think he's just acting friendly but eventually his natural instincts will take over and someone is going to get mauled.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Final 6-2. Zack Jones gave up a run in the 9th but got the final out with a strike out.

big dog Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 You know, sometimes living in a small town is a bit of a challenge (too much gossip, no restaurants, etc., etc.) but sometimes it is just amazing. Found out tonight that the local lawn mower/snowmobile dealer's family is donating a brand new $6,000 Clipper riding mower for our Swimming Pool Auction. We're now close to 150 items -- the generosity of people in this town is just amazing. And when they bid, they don't expect a "bargain" for a benefit. In fact most items go for more than face value. If I win the bidding for the swimming pool in the auction, will someone deliver and install it, or do I have to pick it up?
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Danks ERA by inning (career, 2014) 1st: 4.03, 5.002nd: 4.09, 8.00Different than the norm. A talk at this year's SABR convention reminded us that league-wide the first inning is the biggest scoring inning (and the noteworthy thing, not pertinent here, is that most of the home advantage is found in this first inning). It's not hard to imagine why: managers get to choose their lineups after all, and only in the first are you guaranteed to get what you wanted. Second inning, by the same logic, I believe has the lowest scoring or close to it. So it would be strange for any pitcher to not benefit from pitching to the lower part of the order. I'll have to go with Small Sample Size to explain this year's numbers for him, and not part of a larger pattern.

ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 We like what he's doing, but don't trust him to continue. All I know is I look forward to his at bats. That's a good sign. (Also don't trust him, of course.)
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I agree. And I was putting the meatloaf in the oven. No, really.Like a bat out of hell, I presume? / RB didn't go there? Or did I simply miss a reference?

stringer bell Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 In terms of productive outs, are there any worse guys to be hitting with a runner on second and none out than Dozier and Mauer?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I have a John Danks story. Actually, is more a story about my neighbor. She sat next to him on a plane on a trip a year or two ago. She found out everything about him ... and his fiancée ... that he was a pitcher for the White Sox, what his plans are after baseball, what his fiancee's name was and what she did, where/when they were getting married and so on and so forth. So when I asked her who it was she said she didn't know because she didn't want to be too nosy and ask him his name. She finds out EVERYTHING but, but asking him his name was too nosy. But he seemed like a very nice guy from what she said.

So how did she figure out who it was?

stringer bell Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I haven't been watching, have we noticed anything substandard about Pinto's catching?
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I seem to remember hearing the raindrops on FSNO microphones in previous games too. Seems pretty amateurish.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 I haven't been watching, have we noticed anything substandard about Pinto's catching? He called a pitch that Viciedo put into the upper deck.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Ash??? Don't tell me you missed the two out of three meat loafs ain't bad bit.Not a Meatloaf guy, apparently. I went with the one reference I knew. He had others?
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I had an aunt who would ask anybody anything, anyplace ... but she would have found out his whole family tree, too. Small world. I sat next to her on my flight home from SABR.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 He called a pitch that Viciedo put into the upper deck.Did he call for the wild pitch too?
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I had no idea. They've never mentioned this simple fact on TV (when I've been watching). Also, I don't live in MN, and haven't for some years. So I've never been inside (or outside) the new park, which I would have called Puckett Park by the way. you wouldn't know it by visiting. Very very different parks by feel. My favorite feature of Target Field, is actually facing the pitchers mound in my seat without twisting awkwardly and craning my neck
