  1. Pablo can give up an early run, then he just buckles down and gets dialed in. It is fun to watch the guy has so many ways to attack hitters. So much for slow starts for Correa, he looked fantastic. This is a fun Twins team to follow.
  2. Finally finished a great opening game! Pablo is the man. Correa is a new man. Julien, who by the way is special, will now get more playing time. Edouard Julien plays within himself and will be available. We will be better for it. Eddie didn't look too bad in the field did he, eh? Jax and Stewie, nuff, said
  3. yeah but the videos
  4. For my money Varland was always going to be the better immediate rotation option. That isn't the point however, the depth is now compromised.
  5. Baseball's labor structure is uniquely messed up for the players, but it sure gives us baseball junkies plenty to mull over. The greed and overall inflation in all pro sports doesn't do the average fan any favors either. The equity the Pohlads have gained is simply ridiculous. This is during a time when savings accounts don't accrue any interest at all. With corporate sponsorship, broadcast and advertising revenue slipping, maybe the market will reset somewhat. Beers under $10? A guy can only dream.
  6. Clicked on this to see what was up with Duran. I'm very happy this was not an elbow! Optimistic take; think of how fresh he'll be for the playoffs.
  7. Per Phil Miller of the Strib, "Anthony DeSclafani pitched 1⅔ innings in a Class AAA spring game, striking out three Rays while walking two of the eight batters he faced. The righthander, who has yet to pitch in a Grapefruit League game after battling elbow soreness early in camp, reached 94 mph with his fastball and struck out two batters with off-speed pitches." You can never have enough pitching.
  8. Fun to watch the young guys. Festa seemed to be 80% off-speed, not many fastballs. That surprised me. Most pitches were 88-89.
  9. A vigilant, dispassionate observer. Very complicated person.
  10. Yeah I'm referring to when the season starts and the northern ballparks start humming. Many of these guys are slow starters.
  11. With all the Latin players and the vast majority of US players from warm climes, slow starts are common. Finding a way to alleviate this would be an advantage. It would make early season watching more palatable as well. Mandatory rides on the Twins caravan for intensive ice fishing excursions? Blood thickening therapy
  12. @arby58's got it right and I believe the organization's MO, as Arby put it, is correct as well. Yes Varland looks great. He easily could out perform Tony D this season. I want Louie as a starter if he can perform, no doubt. As much as we all want to see the best players play, the Twins have to play by MLB rules and try to create an advantage. Depth is crucial, just look at how many top pitchers have gone down already. The way it is set up if they want 6 or more big league caliber pitchers, with tight rosters, one, or more, have to be stashed in the minors. That guy will be the one with options even if he is the better pitcher. Dems da breaks. Either guy can't just be stashed in the MLB bullpen either. Starters have their routines and they must adhere to them. 6 starters or piggy backing ain't happening either. Twins management prefers 5 man rotations and skipping starts when possible to give guys a rest. I believe they will try to get all they can out of DeSclafani. This won't be a situation like Gallo where an underperforming player hangs around. If DeScalfani isn't pitching well it is because he is not healthy and someone else will get their chance. I could see LA's scenario playing out with DeScalfani starting on the IL. Varland pitched around 150 innings the last 2 years and it would've been more last year if he hadn't been moved to the pen for the stretch run. The guy is a horse with no injury history. He does not have an innings limit.
  13. Yes and this is why when I first heard of the plica at the end of the season and read about it, I had renewed optimism for Buxton. That's because it is usually successful. I've been posting about this since then and now watching him joyfully run around, it looks promising. This could be a fun season.
  14. Maybe there is no conspiracy or mishandling of the situation. They could've just struggled to correctly diagnose and treat the problem. Is this the first time someone had a condition that wasn't diagnosed properly? What would anyone have to gain from not just fixing the problem in the first place? Look for the motive. There isn't one. I don't know why that is so hard to believe. Last year they thought he would improve and kept pushing back his timeline on returning to the field. The soreness never went away. It is too bad Buxton effectively lost a year. You never know he could be a new man from here on out and with all he has learned, stay healthy. "However, it is widely believed that plica syndrome goes undiagnosed in many instances since symptoms are similar to other knee problems." https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21705-plica-syndrome
  15. Could a tattoo be considered a label?
  16. Not a whole lot of love for the he venerable Smith here. Wouldn't any drop off of in his play the last couple of years have anything to do with the cornerback talent on hand? Why is it they are playing 3 safeties?
  17. One of the issues with an inflamed plica is diagnosis. It is confused with patella tendonitis, which is what they thought Buxton had. Once the symptoms didn't improve, they started casting about for other problems and figured it out. By that time they were too far into the season to perform the procedure and have him return. Thats my guess
  18. Interesting little tidbit in Gleeman's article today; "Duran (No. 2) and Stewart (No. 7) are the AL’s best-projected bullpen duo, and the only other top-10 pairing is Josh Hader (No. 6) and Ryan Pressly (No. 9) of the Houston Astros. And while Hader and Pressly will be paid a combined $33 million this season, Duran and Stewart are minimum-salaried players making a combined $1.5 million."
  19. I'll be glad to watch Cashman. There is a lot to like there and the guy's stats in coverage were top notch. Homer call
