  1. I wonder if any of the players who are blocked by Correa, Lewis, Lee, Miranda, Kirilloff, Polanco, Julien, Sosa...could learn to catch in a year of intense training or would it be better to trade one of them for an already good catcher? As someone on TD pointed out to me recently, the Twins seem to be set at catcher for the next 3 years, and I agree. I am obsessed with the Twins getting a catcher. I think having Joe Mauer at catcher for as long as we did, spoiled me.
  2. I agree and I've been a Senators/Twins fan for longer than anyone who reads this post. Since 1954. But that doesn't make me right...just "wise" and stuck in my ways.
  3. It's OK to rank the 2019 Twins team as one of the best Twins teams ever. Only one other Twins team has won more games, ever. No major league team has hit as many home runs, ever. Here's an interesting question: Which Twins team do you rank higher: 1) The 1987 Twins World Champs, which won the fewest (85) regular season games by a World Series Champion, at that time , since MLB expanded to 162 games in 1961, and were outscored by their opponents during the regular season 806 runs to 786 runs or 2) the Bomba squad which won 101 games and set the all time major league record for most home runs in a season by a team? It all depends on whether your emphasis is on the 6 month regular season or the 1/2 month post season. If the 2019 Twins had only won 85 games, there would have been no post season participation by the Twins in 2019.
  4. SWR is a prospect who I am excited to watch progress this year. If he can duplicate last year, then he's ready for the big time. And there should be openings in 2024 for 2-3 starting pitchers for the Twins.
  5. One game at a time. Even though it is a long grind, take each game one day at a time, then forget it and play the next game. Each game in April, is just as important as any other game. Live for the moment. Concentrate on each pitch, each play, each moment. There is a reason it is called "the present". The standings will take care of themselves.
  6. Hank Aaron is exactly who I also thought of after reading Alex's interesting comment about bulk and power.
  7. Thank you for your interesting reply. Your explanation makes sense.
  8. Alex, I know you played a lot of baseball. I'll ask you if you believe in the sophomore jinx for major league players? Do you think certain types of players are more susceptible to it (such as hitters who can't lay off a high fastball) as the competition learns the sophomores' weaknesses?
  9. Dan, Do you believe in the sophomore jinx? If so, why does it exist? What type of player is immune to this second year slump?
  10. Thank you for this thought-provoking article Matt. I look forward to your next article.
  11. On the contrary, I found this article to be fascinating. I did not feel that I was being "talked down to" by the author of this article. He was not saying "don't criticize the FO or the manager or the players". But I respect that you feel this way. If the author were trying to talk down to us TD posters and Twins fans, he would have called our comments "crap" or written that we "don't know what we are talking about" or "we don't understand", or we are "stupid". Hmmmm.
  12. Really interesting post Greggory. Do you know if the Twins employ a sports psychologist? Do many professional athletic teams employ one? I hope you will apply your knowledge of psychology and human behavior to future articles. I was fascinated by your post. Thank you.
  13. To paraphrase actor Cuba Gooding in the movie, "Jerry McGuire": "Show me the wins Jerry! Show me the wins!"
  14. Pitching is so vital, today, tomorrow and always. However drafting pitchers is inherently risky. Would one of the writers at TD (cough, cough, Jeremy, cough, Seth, cough, cough) consider conducting an interview with a member of the FO who would speak openly about draft strategies and pitfalls regarding the drafting of pitchers. If a member of the Twins FO is not willing to be interviewed, contact a retired "draft specialist" for any team. I think the same risk could apply to drafting catchers. Then write an article for all of TD to read. Thank you in advance.
  15. Good reasoning Fire Dan. I agree.
  16. Gio became expendable when the Twins signed Farmer. Which was a month or two before the Twins signed Gallo. Gallo vs. keeping Gio is really comparing apples to oranges. The Twins have much more promising prospect depth at SS, 3B and 2B, than they have at OF. Getting rid of Gio has no relation to signing Gallo.
  17. This post makes the most sense to me about this issue. What most of the posters and the article are leaving out is that the Twins did not have a SS, therefore got Farmer the same day they traded Urshela. The Twins basically were getting Farmer to play SS if Correa was not signed or were going to use Farmer at utility infield if Correa was signed. Farmer had more flexibility than Urshela and could play SS and Urshela could not play SS. It would not make sense to keep Urshela under the circumstances that existed then, or now. Urshela was in his last year of arbitration eligibility and would not be with the Twins in 2024 in all probability anyway. Could the Twins have gotten more for 1 year of an arbitration eligible Urshela?...Apparently not. Remember the Angels got him to be a back up for an injury-prone Rendon at 3B. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  18. Thank you Seth for an extremely well-written, heartfelt article about a Twins icon, who was a nice person.
  19. I agree, add Moore first if possible. If not, add Chafin. How much would they each cost?
  20. John, I hope to run into you at spring training the first week in March (March 5th through March 11th.)  We chatted briefly several years ago about how impressive Chase Petty was, as he was throwing to a catcher, while we were 20 feet away from the catcher (behind a sturdy fence) on one of the back mounds along one of the many fields. Marco Raya was also throwing that day. I commented on how it amazes me that someone so small (Raya) could throw a baseball so fast. You said it was in the legs. We did not introduce ourselves, but we just talked some. I'll make it a point to introduce myself if I see you this spring at Ft. Myers. I hope you are doing well. Sincerely, David Benbow (tarheeltwinsfan is my Twins Daily moniker).

  21. Reminds me of the great Sopranos' quote: "Our true enemy has yet, to reveal himself".
  22. Oh please, for the sake of all that is good and decent, be wrong.
