    John, I hope to run into you at spring training the first week in March (March 5th through March 11th.)  We chatted briefly several years ago about how impressive Chase Petty was, as he was throwing to a catcher, while we were 20 feet away from the catcher (behind a sturdy fence) on one of the back mounds along one of the many fields. Marco Raya was also throwing that day. I commented on how it amazes me that someone so small (Raya) could throw a baseball so fast. You said it was in the legs. We did not introduce ourselves, but we just talked some. I'll make it a point to introduce myself if I see you this spring at Ft. Myers. I hope you are doing well.     Interesting point. I remember he just was not as effective after he returned from Covid. I'll need to check his performances and see what teams he pitched against after Covid and how he did. Thanks for bringing up that point.

    Nick, You have written another outstanding article. Great questions backed by some facts that I was not aware of. 1) Ryan's stats against KC and Detroit vs. "other teams"; 2) Polanco's increased walk rate; 3) the fact that lefty "pitchers' have pummeled Alcala. I only mentioned # 3 because I just wanted you to know that I am the first reader to find your intentionally placed "Hidden Mistake", which you sometimes put in your articles to gage if anyone is really reading your outstanding articles closely.

    I agree about the deepness of the backend of our position players showing potential, but I don't see much nationally recognized potential in our pitching prospects, front end or back end.

    Plus the Guardians had the youngest team in the majors last year without these 6 top 100 prospects. The Twins are in for a dogfight with the Guardians these next 10 years.

    Nick, Who did the Twins have penciled in to play SS when the season ended? My answer is "Nobody". Correa had announced he was going to test FA, which he did. We did not have Farmer, Lewis will not be ready until the middle of this season, at best, Miller is not ready, Lee is not ready, Martin is not ready. Who was going to play SS? I remember posters proposing moving Polanco back to SS until Lewis could be ready. There was nobody who was going to adequately play SS. Is Correa the same player who played SS last year? Yes, he is. But was he under contract to return for 2023? No, he was not. Is he now under contract to play for the Twins in 2023 and for at least 6 seasons. Yes, he is. Therefore, I submit the biggest weakness which the Twins had going from 2022 to 2023 was 1) the void at SS and 2) the void at catcher, where Jeffers was the only major league catcher contractually committed to play for the Twins in 2023 and there were no prospects in the Twins system anywhere close to being ready to play catcher in the major leagues. Both weaknesses were solved by the FO with unmatched skill/wisdom/luck. But the bottom line is, that SS and catcher were the 2 biggest weaknesses which were addressed by the FO with fantastic results at SS and good results at catcher.

    Maybe Kep can platoon in right field with gold glove winner Michael A. Taylor, who hits left handed pitching very well.

    I am surprised to be told this. That is not too bad a performance by Kep. Maybe Rocco knows more about Twins' lineups than I do. Thank you.

    Try to get Henry Davis also, who is a top 10 catching prospect with a great arm for the Pirates. Add Noah Miller, or newly acquired Salas (both SS's) from the Twins and Davis from the Pirates to this trade.

    Unfortunately this was a good article about Kep's limitations. What struck me was the ridiculous number of times Kep batted in the 1-4 spots in the batting order in 2022. This fact does not speak well for Rocco, who kept putting Kep in those spots in the batting order. " The left side of the infield is wide open. And Kepler swings and hits a two-hopper to the second baseman, who throws him out at first."

    Great reviews Matt. I have the same feelings about Varland. I just can't put my finger on what seems to be lacking. You and I may be the only ones who have Noah Miller ranked so high among Twin's prospects. His fielding is a joy to watch. If his hitting improves, I can see a bright future for him at SS. Frankly that is a big if, but Noah is still young. I could not, however, find any stats for the prospect you mentioned named John Galt. So I ask, "Who is John Galt?" I asked my sports writer friend, Atlas Jones, and Atlas shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know.

    Really nice attachment showing the franchise position starters since the beginning. Brings back lots of memories. Back to when I first started loving baseball and the Washington Senators in 1954 visiting my grandparents in Washington. Eddie Yost (the "walking man"), Mickey Vernon, Wayne Terwilliger, Pete Runnels, on and on for 68 summers. Every year I get excited as spring training approaches. And 2 years out of 68, I got to celebrate my team being the world champion. But in all of the 68 years, I have been able to celebrate baseball., except the season of 68 when I was overseas in the army. I'm ready for another season to begin. And hopefully some of you will able to be with me in Ft. Myers to see the Twins play the Tigers and the Orioles and the Dominican all stars. Play ball.

    Good points River. Speaking of sleeping during med school, at my last colonoscopy, the doctor walked into the operating room before I was put to sleep. He asked me how I was doing. I said I was doing fine. He proceeded to tell he he had been up all night drinking. I guess that is an old gastroenterologist joke.

    Even though Lee is rated the 10th best SS prospect by MLB, he is rated the best hitting SS prospect. Lewis was mentioned as being just on the fringe of the top 10 SS prospects. Julian is #7 at 2B and rated the fastest riser from where he was in the rankings last year. Miranda was mentioned at 3B as having graduated from the top 10 3B last year. When you consider All World Carlos Correa is at SS and Polanco , a former All star SS is at 2B for the Twins, the future looks bright at the key IF positions. Kirilloff at 1B is at a relatively new position, but if his wrist heals, he should be terrific at 1B and hitting. And the Reds MVP from last year, Farmer can play SS, 2B, and 3B capably, that is one good infield. The OF is the best defensive OF in the major leagues with a platinum glove, 2 gold gloves, and Kep, who should have won a gold glove manning the OF. I really don't see any great fielding prospects ranked by MLB, but Rodriguez, Martin, Larnach and Wallner are all very promising outfielders. The Twins have no highly ranked prospects at catcher, I suggest the Twins trade with the Pirates who have 2 highly ranked catching prospects and I prefer Henry Davis for his strong arm, The Mets also have 2 top catching prospects, but I imagine Alverez is untouchable, since he is the number 1 prospect in the overall rankings. Parada may not be a strong enough defender, but he is a possibility to be traded by a team which has 2 top catching prospects. The position players all look very promising for the Twins. Now ...about those young pitching prospects for the Twins....none are ranked vey high except Raya and he is several years away at best. I'll end on a positive note with 2 words. Jhoan Duran.
