Sorry Fatbat, I just can't go there. Winter is half over. We can see the other side of the cold gray days and we remember spring.

This Twins Team Is Better Than the 2019 Squad
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Was any member of the 2019 infield which you list here (Cron,Sano,Arraez at 2B and Polanco at SS) a better than average fielder? I don't think so. I contend the Twins 2023 infield is better at fielding at each position in the infield. This will make the Twins pitching better in 2023. The 2023 OF is one of the best, if not the best, fielding OF in the major leagues. A Platium glove winner and 2 additional gold glove winners plus an excetionally good fielding Kep puts the Twins at the top. Gallo is a gold glove OF'er. That improves the OF in some way, shape or form. I agree that we do not have a 39 HR hitter at DH, plus Cruz was a positive influence on the whole team. Remember, when comparing 2019 to 2023, to discount the 2019 power numbers due to the juiced baseballs that year. I'll close my argument with 2 words: Jhoan Duran.- 50 replies

This Twins Team Is Better Than the 2019 Squad
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is "fun " for me to think of possible scenarios and to predict what will happen this season. I really did not understand the rest of your concerns stated in your post above. But I am also excited for then coming season. I enjoy discussing then Twins here at TD because I do not know anyone in my daily routines here in North Carolina who is interested in the Twins. So I get my "Twins fix" here at TD. Thanks to everyone for the interesting and informative and humorous dialog. I hope to meet some of you in person at Ft. Myers at the Detroit, Baltimore and Dominican games and on the back fields and the batting cages under the stadium in 6 weeks.- 50 replies

This Twins Team Is Better Than the 2019 Squad

We shall see. That is why I suggested revisiting this question at the end of the 2023 season. This Twins team does not necessarily need to win over 100 games, They just need to win one more than the National League team in the World Series.- 50 replies

Yikes. I may disagree with some of the comparisons, but the article is not that bad. The 2023 team emphasizes defense and that helps pitching. The 2019 team was all about homeruns. There are two ways to win a baseball game: Score more runs than the other team, or 2) Do not allow the other team to score more runs than your team does. I like good pitching and good defense. It will be interesting to re-visit this article at the end of the 2023 season.- 50 replies

Learn to bunt for those rare times when it would be useful, like the rare suicide squeeze or to advance a runner when the third baseman on the opponent's team has a broken throwing arm.

Rumor: Michael A. Taylor added via trade
tarheeltwinsfan replied to tony&rodney's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
This has been an impressive off season due to FA (Correa and Vasquez ( I contend catcher was our biggest need going in to the off season) and Taylor - all really good to great up the middle defenders plus another really good defender in Gallo) and trades (Lopez and Farmer)) , and at the same time minimizing distractions (Sano) and minimizing health risks (Arraez) and achieving healing time for previously acquired good players to heal (Lewis and Mahle, Maeda, Acala). The FO may achieve more this off season, but I am so impressed with what has been accomplished this off season. Well done FO and ownership. -
Good article Nick. I would like to read some articles about the Twins development personnel and an article or two about how the Twins evaluate players for the draft. What's involved. Who are the researchers? Who are the top advisors to the FO concerning the draft. How much of the draft is a crap shoot and how much is based on measured analysis and analytics and what analytics are key?

Baltimore has a beautiful ballpark with a nice Hilton Inner Harbor hotel directly across the street which looks down onto the baseball field. Inner Harbor Marriott is a block or 2 from the ballpark and a cheaper hotel. The food at Baltimore ballpark is amazing. Boog Powell's has ribs and BBQ. Bambino's Ribs was no longer there the last time I went, but those ribs were delicious. The smoke and the smell from the cooking ribs and BBQ blows onto the field and makes my mouth water. There is a large walkway between the large brick warehouse and the ball field. Look out for fly balls during batting practice. Crab cakes are incredibly good at O'Brycki's Restaurant, which opened in 1944. You will have to drive or take a cab or Uber to Little Italy for this Baltimore landmark. While in Atlanta, you must get a hot dog or two at The Varsity Drive In in Atlanta, which opened in 1928. It is still owned by the Gordon family. It is the world's largest Drive In. The dogs are delicious. It is near Georgia Tech University in downtown and worth the drive, but do not go during lunch hour. Have fun. I'm looking forward to enjoying your road trip vicariously through your articles on TD.

Keeping the Rolls Royce in the Garage

This is the best plan I have read about for Buck. It seems to be the most reasonable. -
Keeping the Rolls Royce in the Garage
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Outstanding article Alex. I always listen when someone who has actually played on a relatively high level writes or speaks. It gives credibility to the author. For example, when I was playing baseball in high school, I set records for the most home runs at my school. But then, I was the pitcher and it was a school record for home runs allowed...the amazing part of this record is that I rarely could pitch the ball over the plate. The batters were salivating to get to swing at my pitches before my coach could take me out of the game. -

Twins Acquire Gold-Glove Outfielder from Royals
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really like this trade. Michael Taylor and Byron Buxton are so fast, the Twins can just use these two players in the OF and use the third OF position for a lefty reliever, who can mow down lefthanded batters and the starting pitcher can remain in the game in the OF, with the lefty reliever remaining in the game somewhere in the OF when right handed batters are at bat. Alternate the pitchers. How's this for thinking outside the box?- 87 replies

I wonder if tweaking/changing a pitcher's habitual violent pitching motion, could add to the pitcher's injury risk? Do the muscles and ligaments grow accustomed (get built up) to being used in violent ways using one certain motion or several certain motions and specific ways? And do minor changes in this violent set of variable motions, sometimes result in injuries to these ligaments and muscles?

I must respectfully disagree that Sano has always been able to "command the strike zone". To me it appeared that the strike zone commanded Sano.

Luis Arraez’s Value Goes Beyond Excellent On-Field Performance
tarheeltwinsfan commented on Adam Friedman's blog entry in Adam Friedman
I hope he is another Sonny Gray. I'd be happy with that. -
I will really miss Arraez. I stopped doing everything else and concentrated on the game when he came to bat, He is a joy to watch play the game of baseball. I wish him and his family the very best. I hope he has a great career and earns a ton of money and I hope he is given the respect due the American League Batting Champion for 2022. Good luck Mi Amigo.
