  1. Thanks Seth. The weather, the ball park, the training facilities, the beach, the seafood, the birds and wildlife all make playing baseball at Ft. Myers wonderful for a young prospect. Enjoy the present. But I doubt many, if any, of these players will ever make it into the major leagues. Possibly Perez and Shuffield, DeAndrade and hopefully Zebby Mathews.
  2. Even though I am a lifelong Twins fan, I really enjoyed Earl Weaver and his fire and brimstone attitude. If I had not been a Senators fan before they moved to Minnesota, I might have become an Orioles fan.
  3. You are correct. Arraez has to get on base in the first place, in order to "clog" the bases. Maybe I was a little harsh in my use of the term "clog the bases". Thanks for pointing that out.
  4. Duran slept wrong and got a crick in his neck. This was mentioned by Dick Bremer.
  5. Pop, Don't check out of the game over Gallo leading off. Hang in there so you can say, "I told you so" to the rest of us when Gallo strikes out 4 times at leadoff. But when Gallo walks once, hits a double and 2 home runs and runs the bases quickly, I'll say, "I told you so" to you.
  6. Larnach is too slow to have on base ahead of Buck. Gallo has the speed.
  7. I agree about making the trade with the Marlins all day long. The article was really asking who should be batting leadoff for the Twins. I hope to see Gallo at leadoff after Sunday's 2HR, a double, 4 RBI's and a walk game for Gallo. I know it is just one game, but hopefully it is a sign of good things to come for Joey Barrels.
  8. This gives new meaning to a "Meat and greet". To paraphrase a quote from "Jerry McGuire", you had me at free beer. Sorry My root beer will have to be in North Carolina as I watch the Twins on tv.
  9. I think losing Coulombe without anything in return, was the result of 2 bad decisions by the Twins: 1) Keeping Pagan 2) Keeping Sands. I had previously posted my negative feelings about keeping Sands over Coulombe. I had no idea that would result in the Twins losing a major league, left-handed relief pitcher, with nothing in return. How long will Coulombe have to be on the Orioles roster? It should be in his Twins contract. If it is 30 days or less, that was a poorly drafted contract for the Twins.
  10. Throw strikes, minimize walks, let the best ML fielding 3 outfielders and the best ML fielding SS, do their jobs (I can't believe I am advocating, "pitch to contact"). Tell Rocco you are NOT coming out of the game when he comes to talk and then back up your brashness by getting the next 3-5 batters out. The odds are in the pitchers' favor because 7 times out of 10, there will be an out, even if La Tortuga is pitching.
  11. This sounds like so much fun. Thanks for doing this. Makes me sorry I live in North Carolina. I do need to plan a trip to Minneapolis this summer to see a few games and hopefully in October to see the Twins beat the Braves again in the World Series.
  12. The Dookies may have this years' bragging rights, but UNC will always have Coach K's last game at Cameron (LOSS - in front of many former Devil players plus national tv ..."This is unacceptable", quoth Coach K) and Coack K's last game ever, eliminating Dook from the Final 4 (LOSS - in front of the entire college basketball nation). Have you read "Legends". It is about the rivalry between Dean Smith, Coach K. and Jim Valvano. It changed my view about Coach K a little, since he was so kind to Valvano, as he was dying, and years later, Coack K reached out to dementia suffering Dean Smith, who seemed not to recognize Coach K., but when their visit ended when Coach K. was leaving, he hugged Dean Smith, and Dean said to Coach K: "I love you, Coach".
  13. I'm especially disappointed for Ober and Coulombe. They both deserve to be on the 26 man roster. This is based on spring training and past years' performances. Sands and Pagan do not deserve to be on the 26 man roster. This is based on spring training and past performances. I'm glad Castro made the team, but hopefully it will be short lived, due to Polo returning. Who gets sent down if both Polo and Alex K. return, ready to play? I understand Castro will be sent down, but who would be the second player to be sent down? Solano? Looking at this dilemma, I suggest that the front office may not expect Alex K. or Polo to return. I agree that as soon as P. Lopez was signed, Ober was going to be optioned, no matter how well he pitched in spring training, unless there was an injury to one of the other 5 SP's. Question: If Ober is going to be used sparingly in AAA in order to save him for the late summer and the fall, then why not place him at long relief now? Are the Twins wanting to find out what they have in Maeda, so if he is not effective, they can move him (Maeda) to long relief and bring back Ober to start games?
  14. Trevor Larnach has good spring training stats. Thanks for a good article.
  15. I chose Castro (he can hit and field and run) and Hoffman (he can throw strikes). They both have earned being kept on the 26 man roster. Now the question remains, who goes to the IL (Polanco) or is released (Pagan). Second question: If Pagan is released, and then picked up, who pays his contract?
  16. Good, reasonable analysis, Nick. There are a lot of "ifs" in all bullpens, including the Twins' bullpen. But I think that is just the nature of baseball's most "volatile" position. Volatile is defined as, "liable to change rapidly and unpredictably, especially for the worse". Your point of management and the FO needing to be ready to make quick changes is insightful, in view of this definition.
  17. It seems that the Yankees do each time the Twins play them.
  18. Good assessment Nick. This is a good rotation. I am looking forward to reading your BP assessment. Relievers seem to be more unpredictable than starters. I'm very interested in seeing the depth at RP for 2023. It will be needed.
  19. I guess 10 different players used at DH in 2023 by the Twinkies in major league games.
  20. What did Yogi Berra say about this? "It's de ja vu al l over again." However the Twins are better prepared for some inevitable injuries this year than last year.
