  1. WAR gives a leverage bonus to relievers and they still can't match starting pitchers.
  2. Plays well with Suzuki too. Suzuki is good at blocking pitches in the dirt and you don't need to frame a pitch like that. You're fooling the batter, not the umpire.
  3. Maybe it's just the name but Placido Polanco was a very useful player who didn't play much SS in the big leagues. Instead he played 3B or 2B depending on where he was needed. Maybe Jorge Polanco can follow in that mold. That means he probably spends all of next season at Rochester as a utility player. Levi Michael isn't supposed to have the arm for anywhere but second base. My guess is he's also at Rochester next year.
  4. Pat Dean trending up, Taylor Rogers trending down...
  5. Gonsalves is having a great year. He's younger than Tyler Jay and having better results at the same level of competition.
  6. I think there's one spot for Arcia or Vargas. The Twins aren't going to carry two guys who can't field. I believe Vargas still has options for next season.
  7. I saw English a week or so ago. My guess is a lot of that "pop" is speed. He had a hustle double in the game I saw that wouldn't happen with an MLB caliber outfielder. He's an above average baserunner but I don't think his swing is exceptionally powerful.
  8. I'd move Santana to get Shields. Bigger contract commitment for the Twins but a better pitcher.
  9. I would love it if Vargas could hit well enough to be a major league DH. Sano can play the field and my guess is RF is his spot next season.
  10. RH relievers on the Twins with a K/9 better than Jepsen <blank>
  11. How does Gonsalves miss out on top pitcher? I guess 8 shutout is better than 5.
  12. If he can hit low and away with authority then it's hard to get him out
  13. Troubling note about ABW strikeout rate increasing in July in today's Pioneer Press.
  14. I'd be interested in trading established major leaguers for Tulowitzki (Ervin Santana, Tommy Milone and Trevor Plouffe?) but young talent not so much. Maybe they would bite on a quantity-over-quality package of Danny Santana, Adam Brett Walker, Alex Meyer and Kohl Stewart but unlikely.
  15. Farris will probably not play in the big leagues for anyone. Ortiz might get a shot with a different organization or Japan but also unlikely.
  16. The best option this offseason for catcher might be a free agent. Matt Wieters is not going to cost a ton.
  17. Nunez is having a "bench bat" type of season. I'm not sure why he's been overlooked.
  18. "Chih-Wei Hu pitched six one-run innings" I read this as Hu giving up a run every inning for six innings. Had to read it twice.
  19. OTOH - if he hasn't mastered it at AA (and he hasn't) why would you bump him up to the next level?
  20. Buxton is injured and will certainly need a rehab stint. Don't expect him until September.
  21. Nunez has an 800 OPS this season. It will be hard for Arcia to top that. The Twins could go with two different semi-platoons in the outfield if they send back Santana and make Escobar the everyday SS. LF Rosario/Robinson CF Hicks (who platoons with himself) RF Hunter/Arcia They all bring different skill sets depending on defense, platoon advantage, contact v power, etc. I don't think the Twins are quite ready to bring up Arcia only to sit him on the bench most of the time. In September they'll be willing to do that. With the current roster you pretty much have to sit a prospect (Santana, Arcia, Rosario) in order to put together the best bench.
