  1. They're all easy choices to tender, especially since the contracts are only partially guaranteed. I expect the MLB minimum to go above $750,000 in the new CBA.
  2. Miguel Sano should be the full time DH. They aren't going to be able to trade him for diddly squat and he's a terrible defender.
  3. I think Pohlad genuinely wants to try to compete next year. I think Falvey wants to tear it down and start over. It's probably a good long-term move for Falvey. Trying to contend means higher expectations for 2022 and possible consequences if they fall short again. A rebuild lowers expectations for 3-5 years. Nobody gets fired in the middle of a rebuild.
  4. Buxton is not expensive for 2021. he's only looking at $7.5M in arbitration. There's $20M in excess value in one season of Byron Buxton. This front office looks really, really cheap. There is no reason to run the Twins like the A's and Rays. If they're going to run the team like this they really should hire Mike Veeck to be the GM. They'll need the county fair carnival atmosphere from the Saints to get people to buy a ticket.
  5. If he's good at learning from mistakes then the Twins will benefit. I imagine Tingler has spent the last month rehashing the Padres season trying to figure out how to do it differently if he did it over again. At least, I hope he has.
  6. Matz is a bad fit for Target Field. He's homer-prone to right handed pull hitters.
  7. That's a bargain price for Baez. Yes, please. I think they're wrong - he'll get $100M
  8. They've got to top Lorenzo Cain's 5 year $80M deal.
  9. Bill Freehan died without being inducted. 11 All-Star games, 5 Gold Gloves, 2nd and 3rd place finishes in MVP voting. World Series ring in 1968. He didn't even get on the Golden Era ballot.
  10. It took Ted Simmons a long time to get inducted. Mike Piazza took 3 tries and Gary Carter took 6 tries. I would hold off on any reservations.
  11. Lefty Grove was inducted in 1947. Lefty O'Doul is on this ballot.
  12. If not for his back injury, Al Rosen's career would be a lot more impressive. If not for the injuries, Byron Buxton's career would be a lot more impressive. Nomar Garciaparra, Bret Saberhagen, Orel Hershiser, Fred Lynn. There are literally HUNDREDS of baseball players throughout history who could say the same thing.
  13. I don't think either one is one of the top 4 players available. The rules say you only get to vote for 4 so my ballot would not have either.
  14. It's going to be awfully hard to find a trade partner for either. Most likely you'll just get someone else's overpaid player in return.
  15. Nobody wanted to trade for Wade Miley's $10M contract and he was one of the best pitchers in the major leagues last year. Randy Dobnak and the remaining $8M on his contract should be quite easy to get through waivers.
  16. Wade Miley would have been the best pitcher on the roster. I don't understand this at all. Give up any prospect ranked #15 or lower on the MLB list.
  17. Total failure by the Twins. They should have traded something, anything for Miley so he never ended up on waivers at all.
  18. Wade Miley was pretty outstanding in 2021 and has a $10M option for 2022.
  19. Ever hear the saying "better to trade someone a year too early than a year too late"? That's Mitch Garver. I think a challenge trade to the Yankees that brings back Gary Sanchez + another player (Jameson Taillon? Domingo German?) could be interesting for the Twins. The Yankee fans really don't want Sanchez around. He's expensive and Garver isn't (projected arb number $5M less than Sanchez). The Yankees are trying to find a way to limit their luxury tax bill and have a lot of arbitration eligible players.
  20. Oakland is not going to want to pay all of Manea, Bassitt and Montas.
  21. I think they may have already tipped their hand on this one. Falvey wants more home runs in the lineup and that is something you will never get from Luis Arraez. Jose Miranda is ready and can play every position that Arraez can play. Miranda hit 30 HR in the minors this year (with a .344 batting average). Arraez is pretty much at peak trade value right now. He's a proven utility infielder who gets on base. Someone will be interested in acquiring him.
  22. I like this idea enough that I would endorse trading Arraez to make it happen. They need pitching more than they need Luis Arraez.
  23. Sano has been awful at 1B. He should play out his contract at DH next year. Josh Donaldson is going to be 36 and the team defense could improve if he played more first base.
