The fact that WPA completely ignores defensive contributions makes it useless for me. It tells the story of game events but it is terrible at assigning value to players.

Is Jenkins really going to turn down $7.3M because he didn't get $7.8M? He'd have to bet that going to college would raise his draft status enough to get $9M or more in 2026. He shouldn't bet $500,000 now that he would be the #1 pick in 2026, especially when he will get to free agency faster as a high school draft pick.

I think WPA gives him credit for getting to 2B.

Unfortunately the Twins are stuck with Dobnak until 2025 with the next two seasons costing them $6.25M. His first option on that contract is 2026 when he will be 31 years old. If you enjoy rooting for him there will be plenty of opportunities to see him pitch in St. Paul.

Fantastic. I hope he retires a Pirate.

They're definitely not sellers this year. They would need to go 0-7 this week and even then they'd only be a couple games behind Cleveland.

No, it looks like Wallner is up to keep the bench warm.

Your criteria should be called "Most Underpaid Player". It is more of an insult than an honor. If you receive that award you know you got screwed over the most by your boss.
  10. DJL44
Add Danny De Andrade, Bryan Acuna
  11. DJL44
The pitching in the minors was very thin before the draft, nobody in the top 100 or probably even the top 150. Festa is not considered a high upside guy.
  12. DJL44
I am sure there will be promotions as the new draft picks get added to rosters
  13. DJL44
No, it most definitely should not. That has never been the criteria for the MVP award and it should never be the criteria for the MVP award. The MVP is the player who contributes the most on the field to his team's success. Their salary is completely irrelevant to the discussion.

Thanks for bringing this up. There is nothing you get from Gallo that you can't get from Kirilloff. What they need to do is drop one (or two) of their lefthanded bats and find a righthanded bat. They don't need Gallo AND Kepler AND Larnach AND Kirilloff AND Wallner on this roster (and I'm ignoring Julien and Nick Gordon). That was obvious when they added Gallo.
  15. DJL44
But it doesn't matter for determining who the MVP is in a given year. If you want to give the front office an award for obtaining on-field value for the lowest cost you're more than welcome to do so.

There are no owners in MLB losing money.

    It's been almost a decade.....

I hesitate to call someone who projects as a corner outfielder a "five tool" player. If he had plus speed he would profile in centerfield. I think they're both plus athletes with All-Star potential.
  19. DJL44
I will be surprised if they sign the 19th or 20th round picks.

Steve Cohen should have put an end to that line of thinking this offseason. The Angels have not been held back one bit because of Trout's paycheck. They have been held back because the Angels front office has been selecting the wrong players for his supporting cast. The rules for the MVP voting don't mention anything about production per dollar, just how good a player is on offense and defense. I would vote for MVP (and by corollary LVP) based on the rules, not on your alternate criteria. It's pretty clear to me the least valuable player for the Twins has been Jose Miranda.
  21. DJL44
I would rather put Jhoan Duran in the rotation than Dallas Keuchel
  22. DJL44
I disagree completely. Value is all about how much the player helped his team win. What the player is paid is irrelevant to the discussion. Here are the MVP voting instructions: They don't have a (6) how little the player is paid because of MLB service time rules
  23. DJL44
They don't have to dominate to win in the playoffs, just play slightly above .500 baseball for a month.
  24. DJL44
First, you're reading something wrong. Correa has 1.0 fWAR Minnesota Twins Leaderboards » 2023 » Batters » Dashboard | FanGraphs Baseball Second, by that logic Mike Trout and Aaron Judge shouldn't win an MVP because they make too much money to be valuable. Only minimum salary All-Stars would win the award.
  25. DJL44
Correa isn't even close to the least valuable player on the Twins, let alone the entire American League.
