  1. Correct - Monopsony protection, not Monopoly protection. However the monopsony in effect becomes a monopoly when the control of the buy to set the purchase price from a single cartel in the draft and rookie contract rates drives out competitive leagues. In effect, it's a monopsony of baseball players, and a monopoly of baseball games. But yeah Monopsony is relevant to the labor dispute
  2. Stupid point of clarification, first lockout in 31 years, first stoppage in 26 1994 was a strike 1990 was a lockout actually kinda nice having 26 years of peace because for the first 28 years they averaged a work stoppage every 4 years.
  3. What point are you trying to make? Are you advocating for the players to change their lever/strategy?
  4. Point of clarification: Carl Pohlad purchased the Twins for $32 million. Jim Pohlad only had to be born. The highest priced sale of an MLB franchise ever was $845 million. Purchasing an MLB team for a billion hasn’t happened. meanwhile the average minor leaguer earns $25k per year and leaves minor league baseball in debt because the team doesn’t pay for their offseason training of travel. The league looks to be paying for minor league in season housing, which is a step in the right direction, but still holds on to the absolutely dreadful minor league salaries. the point here is, players invest into the sport too. Time, sweat equity, putting a good product on the field are just as valuable as the logo on the hat and what actually make the game a sport for us to watch. Everyone wants a bigger piece of the pie. I don’t fault the players for wanting a bigger piece of it, anymore than the owners, but the MLB and Manfred really bother me most. Manfred should be looking out for the sport as a whole more than he does. He clearly understands that a company with too high of a profit margin ultimately loses out because it creates openings for additional competition. He and the league protects the margins through litigation and hiding the books rather than investing back into the league assets. By improving the broadcast strategy and paying more players (including minor leaguer’) the league can grow faster and maintain or grow it’s talents to stave off competition. this shouldn’t be millionaires vs billionaires. It’s Manfred vs Us the fans.
  5. I pretty much disagree with the entire posting except “Of course this signing on its own is not worthy of praise should the Twins do nothing else, but if they execute on acquiring two more arms above this ability level, it’s a threesome they can rely on.” Bundy alone leaves the Rotation in very bad shape, but Bundy as a floor isn’t bad. Unfortunately this was the same old schtick from the same old Falvine. We’ve seen this horse and pony show before and until they prove willing to invest in the rotation, I won’t believe that the FO will invest in the rotation. Bundy’s shoulder appears shot due to his velocity drop and he hasn’t been able to keep the ball in the park. He’s a fine depth piece, but this FO has acquired Maeda, prospects and several depth pitchers per year even when the team desperately needed another mid-to-front rotation starter. Looking at the options available and the odds of swinging a trade, the 2022 rotation options look bleak
  6. Mod note, if you’d like to discuss a topic other than the CBA such as comparing parity between leagues, start a new thread
  7. No Roster listed... It's there, but you can't see it in the navigation
  8. Because when the CBA expires the players will prolong the negotiation as long as they can. There won’t be much time to acquire more pitchers just days before (or after) opening day. If they had a deal, they needed to get the paperwork done today.
  9. forget running the bases... can we run the warning track? Puhleeeze!
  10. You're injury prone, until you aren't. While there are no guarantees he'll get more healthy, there are no guarantees he won't either. History might be the best predictor of the future, but it is far from accurate.
  11. Cave was waived, passed through waivers, and outrighted to St Paul. He’s now a break glass type of player
  12. We all missed the obvious answer: FALSE! Buxton will play 162 games in CF and reach all his at bat and MVP bonuses be the MVP and single handedly carry the team to win the World Series
  13. GOOD GIRL Roxy! Good girl! Let’s get you a treat !
  14. Agreed with the OP, Kepler is probably not a preferred option at CF. I think Gordon is option 1, Cave is option 2 for Buxton backup. I wouldn’t be shocked if he got a minor league deal with ST invite, but if Danny Santana makes the opening day roster… oofda, something went wrong
  15. Rogers’ finger injury has me a bit nervous. 6.7 to 7 mil on a relief pitcher that you aren’t sure of what you are getting… I would try to sign him to a 2 year deal though…
  16. Indeed Apple is killing it. In the other thread I was debating if Apple+ was going to get the axe. I’m glad I haven’t yet. really liking Invasion. Looking forward to Finch and Shrink Next Door
  17. I absolutely support this idea, Manea would improve this rotation immensely. Giving up that package of players would require the FO to extend Manea, but a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. Just like free agency, trades like this are not available every offseason. Next year the As won't be trying to offload so much quality pitching. Twins need to capitalize while they can. Acquiring 2 good starting pitchers gives this team a chance in 2022 and they can afford to give up some future assets to improve the present. I'd personally prefer Montas, but flexibility is required in making an agreement.
  18. I like this idea, Luis Arraez as a Paul Molitor-esque DH... Let the man hit and acquire a better fielding utility player Molitor Arraez k/bb 0.88 0.67 wOBA 0.361 0.375 SLG 0.448 0.403
  19. It’s Thanksgiving week and in that spirit, I’d like to ask our community, “What are you thankful for?” I’ll start: I’m thankful for all of you, our Twins Daily community. You give me so much food for thought. You give me an outlet to discuss my passions, my fears, my skepticism. Our community makes Twins fandom great, and I haven’t found another one like it. I’m thankful for our moderation and community leadership team, we get to work together to help make this site as conducive to robust Twins Fandom discussion as possible. I’m thankful for our founders/owners who keep the lights on, John, Nick, Seth, Parker & Brock I’m thankful for our writers who continuously churn out tons of great new content for the front page. Last, but not least, I’m thankful for our blogs and bloggers who write awesome work. One blog post I’d like to point out as a moderator, was written by one of our moderator/community leadership team written 5 years ago. Posting styles discussing our frustrations about the Twins - In My Opinion - Twins Daily. I encourage our community members (myself included) to try a longer form of writing. What are you interested in? What gets your blood pressure up? If I took the running theme of my posts, the partial thoughts, frustrated rants, one-off comments and collected them up, I could write something longer form… maybe. I dunno… I’m unsure What I write, might suck, it might unravel as soon as I put it out there. I don’t really know how to write prose. But that’s the power of our community and why I am so thankful for you. We as a community will offer candid feedback, support, encouragement, disagreement, and perspective. I don’t know if blogging will work for me, or if I have that much to say, but maybe I’ll give it a shot. I encourage you all to do the same. How about you, what are you thankful for?
  20. Really good post! Well written/articulated I agree with you of the enormous opportunity in front of the FO and the risks involved for this offseason. I think about what it might look like trading Buxton or Garver (or both) for prospects that could be a package for Frankie Montas? The As don’t want Buxton or Garver, but do have pitching to spare and want to reduce payroll. A trade like that and a free agent like Ray on a 5+ year 100+ mil contract, 2022 would hurt less and ‘23 might be given a head start because more of the hitters in your scenario have big league experience than the pitchers. I would classify it as a rebuild (to Cody’s point) but a quicker rebuild than the Orioles saga.
