  1. Agreed, to an extent, that Forbes isn’t an objective source. Forbes is designed to make celebrities out of rich people. Forbes’ estimates are designed to make billionaires look as human and normal as possible while still flaunting their fabulous wealth. The Pohlads or their proxies may have even helped craft the message. one of the other questions I have, beyond the validity of the estimates. Is what other Pohlad entities besides the Twins benefit in what ways because of the Twins? even if the Twins themselves aren’t profitable or as profitable as the Pohlads would have historically liked them to be, how much revenue does the team drive to other ventures? as hard as the op is to actually answer, it’s even harder when you consider the Pohlads own media and advertising firms, at one point they owned a stake in FSN that could still be the case w/ BSN. The benefits and costs go beyond the game on the field, and without GAAP audit, we’ll never really know. so taking this with a huge grain of salt. Fun read, not news.
  2. Agreed, but if you go too far with this strategy, you become the AAA farm team for the Yankees again. Trading Thielbar would return very little, keeping Thielbar costs very little. Why reduce the effectiveness of the pen in 2023 for very little return?
  3. Awesome to see Royce hungry to get on the field but understanding and trusting in the process. Speaks well to Royce and also the FO in effective communication. Great Article Ted and great candor from Royce!
  4. Odds makers use a half so you can’t guess it exactly. The first two guessses were 11 and 10, so set the line at 10.5
  5. Scotch and Kool-Aid is an “interesting” combination
  6. In my house it was lime. I remember being very upset with my aunt when babysitting me used the green stained wooden spoon to make soup because I was afraid the soup would take the kool-aid stain off
  7. It’s Spring! Mitts are popping’, everyone is in the best shape of their life! World Series or Bust!
  8. Agreed, but only if it’s a massive bargain like that. Relievers shine really bright and burn out fast. The Twins already have him locked up through age 29 season where velocity and K rate start to (on average) drop precipitously.
  9. In retrospect, a 28 or 29 year old obliterating baseballs in the equivalent of AA with a very high K rate probably doesn’t translate to obliterating baseballs in MLB. If he was 22 or 23, I can’t imagine the posting fee and salary… Park was fairly cheap at 24 million total.
  10. Predictions for an entire team formulated from one inning each by two different pitchers from a very early spring training game? Confirmation of what?
  11. Agreed, best of luck to Martin that it is a mild sprain and he rests/recovers his way back to the diamond quickly!
  12. Indeed, injury bug has already set in. Hopefully just getting that out of the way
  13. Byron Buxton, Alex Kirilloff, Jose Miranda and Jorge Polanco have never played their positions before? I think a little more research might help assuage your fear.
  14. I think your observations are astute, but maybe weighed a bit too heavily against Baldelli. Keep in mind that Baldelli and his coaching staff have them to mold and sculpt for a couple seasons. Most of these players have played professionally for 4-6 years before getting to the bigs, many of them for several years in the bigs before Baldelli coaches them, and all of them for 8-10 years before becoming professionals. it takes more than a season or two, to undo 15 years of coaching. also, the FO has acquired a crap-ton of lumbering three-true-outcomes hitters. You can’t make Willie-Mays-Hayes out of Trevor Larnach. They apparently have identified the gap and are addressing it, but again, it’ll take more than an off-season to make that transition
  15. Over-under on number of days until he is waived again: 2.5?
  16. So many choices! My guess is Bert’s Blues, for…. reasons…..
  17. Martin and Arraez might profile as similar types of hitters, but Martin hasn’t shown the contact skill. Maybe it’s there, maybe he’ll develop some power too, but he’d be a late bloomer. I hope he does take those skills to the next level. I’m rooting for him.
  18. Trevor Rogers is a starter in Miami. Did you mean Taylor Rogers?
  19. I get the consternation w/ Kirilloff, but the surgery wasn’t as “ground breaking” or unheard of as some posters are fearing. Yes, it’s serious, every surgery is, just like Sano’s rod in his leg or Correa’s plate in his ankle. They were serious surgeries, but successful. not to downplay the seriousness of AK’s surgery, I’m sure it’s been a difficult recovery, and swinging a bat adds complexity, but my dog had that surgery 13 years ago. He was walking on that foreleg in a cast in two weeks and back to normal in 6. If it’s done to dogs by veterinarians, the top notch surgeons that care for pro athletes should be good hands to be in.
  20. There is a third leg of the stool, convert minor league quad A starters to relievers.
  21. Great work! I laughed so hard! “You were always my first choice.” OMG!
