  1. Joey Gallo’s (much like Max Kepler) calling card was also a plus fielding corner outfielder. Both Gallo and Kepler have been very average at best in the outfield. Gallo has -1 OAA in both RF and LF, with a hot start, he’s hitting his career average on the season. See if they can trade him and Kepler for anything leading up to the deadline, and then DFA them both. it might get worse with Larnach and Wallner in the outfield, but not much, and at least then they’re developing future players instead of giving innings to past their prime vets.
  2. I thought it was going to be Headrick after he defecated all over the pitcher’s mound on Tuesday night.
  3. Deletes draft Tweet “Buck-up Byron Buttercup” sigh…
  4. How long is the list of pitchers who were good enough to be in the bigs, but aren’t workhorses?
  5. Sonny Gray also isn’t a workhorse anymore and Louie Varland pitched the most innings he’s ever pitched last year at 130. i’d rather have a 6 man rotation for a 6 weeks or so to give the rotation breather than artificial short starts
  6. Close, but I have to go with this one https://www.twinkietown.com/2013/1/4/3833034/an-oral-history-of-nick-punto-sliding-headfirst-into-first-base
  7. But would you rather watch Luis Arraez hit and watch Devin Smeltzer, and Randy Dobnak pitch? Plus the parade of relievers? Have we forgotten about 2022 already?
  8. Yup, even with his bonuses per start, he’s not making alot, 10 mil or something like that. I like the idea to pay him his start bonus anyways. He’ll come well short of that 10m
  9. What kind of Reliver is Kepler worth? We already have Emilio Pagan? I don’t want two Pagans!
  10. Sub Wallner for Kepler (IL, DFA, whatever) and IL Buck for Julien and these could have been much different games
  11. I bet the age for MLB viewership skews older than other sports. gotta get mom’s building a firestick and a teenager to run it
  12. That’s the hindsight 20/20 thing that I come back to. In what we now know was a lost season, why didn’t they get his knee repaired right away and end his season early last year? Maybe coulda, woulda, shoulda…. He’s 100% and an all star. I know, we can’t know or speculate, but I can’t help myself, playing on the bum knee last year might have contributed to the extended recover this year.
  13. This gets at the heart of the debate. Is Buxton’s health and capability to play CF in Falvine and Baldelli’s control? I don’t think we know if he is healthy enough and capable to play CF. I do think the FO and Baldelli know. I also think if Buxton were healthy enough and capable to play CF, he would be. everyone, Buxton, Baldelli, Falvey, Correa, would rather have Buck in CF than DH.
  14. As an SCSU alumnus I found the jab quite funny. Thanks Royce!
  15. In the Athletic article, they walked through the difference. The Padres had a partnership w/ Diamond, meaning there’s no bankruptcy court process. With the Twins it’s just a standard buyer/seller agreement so it does fall under Bankruptcy and following the Bankruptcy process. Balley Sports did stop paying the Twins and apparently agreed to a prorated amount to keep the broadcasting going through the process.
  16. The Athletic wrote up a good article. “ One source, who has advised some of the creditors, believes Diamond is sending a message to MLB with the move, as if to taunt them with how much the Padres are losing. This source texted: “The question to ask is, ‘What is MLB doing?’ I mean they just cost the Padres a bunch of money without a clear way to replacement. “I would expect MLB will try to launch a new RSN but it is impossible to fathom that they will get (anywhere) near the approx $50-60 million per annum they (were) getting from Bally’s. It will probably be half that and maybe even on a sports tier.” That said, MLB controls the Padres’ digital rights, the feature Diamond fruitlessly negotiated for the last several years. Now MLB can sell all media platforms for the Padres, one small step toward its goal of a local/national multiplatform viewing option. — Kaplan”
  17. I would say Pagan is the most unrepairable piece of the bullpen problem. Jax and J.Lopez being ineffective and Thielbar hurt are bigger, but more fixable.
  18. Firmly agree with the OP and @gman. Jax has had a rough month and shouldn’t be this bad forever. Pagan has been a train wreck for 3 years, why see if you can fix him in the 4th, if you couldn’t fix him in the 3rd? further, there’s too many low leverage relievers on this team, they can’t afford to have firmly established low leverage relievers. Stewart was a great find, they need to turn Pagan’s spot over to another kid, see if they have another lightning in a bottle reliever in the minors.
  19. 1) while they miss having more hitters, this rotation is awesome and P. Lopez has contributed to winning far more games than Arraez would have. Arraez WPA season to date .33, Lopez .70. Lopez has contributed twice as much to win expectancy outcomes as Arraez has. 2/3 - Buxton is still hurt. Is Buxton Perma-DH? 4 - agreed, he likely won’t stay this bad all year. 5 - Duran is the “true closer” and an elite reliever in the MLB. If he’s not good enough, there likely isn’t a reliever good enough for you. the bullpen is a problem, issue is no depth and they haven’t developed or signed depth. 3 reliable relievers out of 8 is not good. 6 - lineup inconsistency, can you provide data to back this up? Do hitters that hit in the same spot in the lineup produce better results?
  20. This! they also need to hit more. They won’t win many games scoring only 3 runs
  21. They’ve done the bonus pool slot maneuvering a few times, and have played it straight a few times. You could be on to their strategy for the draft.
  22. Wade has played 6 games in CF field being traded. The Giants don’t see him as a CF.
  23. @Cody Christieyou missed THE pivotal moment in Trevor Plouffe’s media career! January 2020 he was guest at the Twins Daily Winter Meltdown with some guy named Kent Hrbek that jump started his podcasting career im sure it was Gleeman and The Geek and not Jomboy that launched the empire :)
