  1. Indeed, injury bug has already set in. Hopefully just getting that out of the way
  2. Byron Buxton, Alex Kirilloff, Jose Miranda and Jorge Polanco have never played their positions before? I think a little more research might help assuage your fear.
  3. I think your observations are astute, but maybe weighed a bit too heavily against Baldelli. Keep in mind that Baldelli and his coaching staff have them to mold and sculpt for a couple seasons. Most of these players have played professionally for 4-6 years before getting to the bigs, many of them for several years in the bigs before Baldelli coaches them, and all of them for 8-10 years before becoming professionals. it takes more than a season or two, to undo 15 years of coaching. also, the FO has acquired a crap-ton of lumbering three-true-outcomes hitters. You can’t make Willie-Mays-Hayes out of Trevor Larnach. They apparently have identified the gap and are addressing it, but again, it’ll take more than an off-season to make that transition
  4. Over-under on number of days until he is waived again: 2.5?
  5. So many choices! My guess is Bert’s Blues, for…. reasons…..
  6. Martin and Arraez might profile as similar types of hitters, but Martin hasn’t shown the contact skill. Maybe it’s there, maybe he’ll develop some power too, but he’d be a late bloomer. I hope he does take those skills to the next level. I’m rooting for him.
  7. Trevor Rogers is a starter in Miami. Did you mean Taylor Rogers?
  8. I get the consternation w/ Kirilloff, but the surgery wasn’t as “ground breaking” or unheard of as some posters are fearing. Yes, it’s serious, every surgery is, just like Sano’s rod in his leg or Correa’s plate in his ankle. They were serious surgeries, but successful. not to downplay the seriousness of AK’s surgery, I’m sure it’s been a difficult recovery, and swinging a bat adds complexity, but my dog had that surgery 13 years ago. He was walking on that foreleg in a cast in two weeks and back to normal in 6. If it’s done to dogs by veterinarians, the top notch surgeons that care for pro athletes should be good hands to be in.
  9. There is a third leg of the stool, convert minor league quad A starters to relievers.
  10. Great work! I laughed so hard! “You were always my first choice.” OMG!
  11. Great article @Hunter McCall. One question, why did you include Miranda’s 246 mlb innings of 3B fielding, but ignore Kirilloff’s 345 mlb innings at 1B as SSS?
  12. How do you get at the worse bat? Sano career OPS .808 ISO .248 wRC+115. Gallo OPS .794, ISO .270 wRC+ 110. that is so similar, it is indistinguishable. Gallo Ks slightly more, BBs slightly more, and hits more homers. Isn’t the ISO the interesting part?
  13. Agreed on win or be entertaining, but I don’t like watching 3 true outcomes hitters. I’m not entertained by watching 3 whiffs and sitting down 80% of the time. Also, Gallo is basically Sano with a better mitt. You’ll like watching him strikeout, I promise
  14. 100% agreed on the hitting value comp. On the fielding comp, Gallo is a much better fielder. While I hate the Gallo signing and feel he’s an overrated fielder, at least he’s descent. Sano is a butcher, pretty much everywhere he’s fielded.
  15. In 2022 Kepler had 95 wRC+, Gallo had 85 wRC+, and Gordon had 111. Gallo’s overall OAA last year was 0, Keplers was 11(!) Gordon’s was -2. Gordon’s OAA in the outfield was 0, compared to Gallo’s 0 to -3. Maybe something went horribly right if Gordon is slotted to start in Left.
  16. Why assume Gordon won’t be the everyday left fielder? Gallo and Kepler need to earn their spot in the lineup just like Gordon and Larnach
  17. In perusing Fangraphs, NYY was 4th in Pitching War for the ‘19 season, Twins were 14 in FWAR, 19 in FIP, 16 in ERA. The Twins were average pitching, including a all the injuries and what if’s.
  18. Exactly. The article missed the mark… the problem with the Bomba Squad wasn’t the rentals. The problem was they didn’t have enough pitching. getting bounced by the Yankees again in ‘19 was getting beaten by a team that hit the second most home runs in the league AND had much better pitching. frankly I wish the FO would sign more rentals. While I hate the Gallo signing, if I’m proven wrong and he actually can hit a Manfred Ball, that rental could prove to be a huge difference maker on a team that looks poised to prevent runs at a much improved rate, and struggle to score.
  19. I would peg him as third in the Twins rotation, maybe 4th if Mahle is 100%, but he is still a very good starting pitcher. Mahle was a mid-season acquisition and got hurt, Lopez was just added. On the old school starting pitching and defense scale, this team got a lot better with Kirilloff at first, Gallo and Kepler in the corner OF and Taylor 4th OF. They could struggle to score runs, but run prevention is much better. now, just because Gray is down on my pecking order, doesn’t mean I think this is a World Series rotation. They just have a bunch of very good starting pitchers (not an “Ace” in the bunch).
  20. Did you trade Joey Gallo for Luis Arraez? Pablo Lopez not making the team?
  21. The whole point of the article is the patterns we as fans can see may not actually be patterns and may not actually align with the decisions and actions being taken by the team. You are correct the team needs to be driving the improvement and they are accountable to the Pohlads on sales that are generated from us the fans. these are separate concepts but there’s causal/reaction that occurs. The PR machine whirs through the Twitterverse and we all react. On and on…
