Reviewing the Tyler Mahle Trade
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is an article that is best written at the all-star break. 4 games into the season is not a time to judge anyone or any trade. Let's see how health plays out and if he stays with us as the young players mature in Cin.- 57 replies

Okay - Gallo is making me prepared to eat . Still early, but I will gladly take success if he continues to deliver. Sands was questionable last year and still is. When Winder is healthy he should take this BP slot.

This Saints Team Could be Something Special
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
This is a great group of players. If they do not make it with the Twins they can look at Spencer Steer and others who have been able to make it with other clubs. This is our trade capital as well as back ups.- 15 replies

Analytics was a big deal when only a few teams could do it. Now everyone has a computer full of statheads and thus it is an almost even ballgame which then comes down to the mental aspects of the game in each players hear, attitude (I too would choke up in the crucial moments) and natural aspects like speed and coordination. I still like old fashioned ball players taking advantage of new information and not managers who follow the data only.

Cedar Rapids Kernels Opening Day Roster - 2023
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Once again, I plead ignorance. I know so little about them Prielipp, Noah, Salas and Rodriguez are my only reference points and to be honest I do not feel like I have a real handle on them. This will be my learning year. Thanks for the update- 18 replies

Twins vs. Marlins (4/3-4/5): Series Preview
mikelink45 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
2017 - we won 85 games - would we take that this year? Sounds pretty good now, but our sites are higher than that.- 15 replies

Good essay - what do the Twins think? I know they will not tell us, but it seems a shame to waste a good pitcher.
-
From what I read on TD - I am waiting for Julien to step in to that spot. Gallo and Kepler make no sense to me. I know it is old school, but having a batter who gets on base in front of the power bats is still a good strategy. Arraez is now 9 for 16 for the Marlins. They got what they wanted. I know we had to sacrifice to get Lopez, but we need a contact hitter and he is not on the roster right now,

A sweep is great. I am anxious to see us against better teams. We owned KC last year and it looks like that will continue for 23. I know I am a wet blanket for a 3 - 0 team, but KC and the Tigers are not good measuring sticks. The good news is that we should beat them and we did.

Wichita Wind Surge Opening Day Roster - 2023

I am interested in this team because I really only know about three of them. So much has changed in our system- 22 replies

That will change I believe. Do you think that is representative of who he is?

If we are really contender then bad performance need to be cut or sent down, no matter who they are. We cannot have another episode of Colome or Pagan dragging us down for months.

Luis Arraez now has 7 hits - in this game the Twins had 5. In two games we have had 15 against Royal pitching. I want Julien up if he can give us the kind of hitting Luis did.

I would prefer Julien over Castro (I am partial to homegrown products). When players are in the minors as 27+year olds I do not see them as prospects, even though they might get some MLB time. The clock is ticking for Martin, Canterino and Balazovic. They still have some youth, but performance or injury has put a bad tag on each of them.

Future Twins Weigh in on an Electronic Strike Zone
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Why not? Basically, framing is cheating, so why wouldn't you want consistency? It too will speed up games, no arguing with the ump, just pitch, hit, or throw. I like it. I also like the shorter games so far, although out shorter games seem to be because we have forgotten how to hit.- 60 replies

Wallner in RF - Gallo in St Paul and Kepler on the bench - already dreaming and the Twins are 2 - 0.

Once more Gallo showed who he is and I hate it. Kepler leading off is like having an 8 man batting order. Come on we can do better. Yes - two shut outs - these are the Royals. We score foUr runs in two games - come on - these are the Royals.

I'm delighted we won, but I also want to be a curmudgeon. We scored two runs against KC. We've got to do better than that. I was really questioning why Kepler is leading off. Did I miss something this just seems like a bad decision. I was glad to see somebody pinch hit for Gallo and get the automatic out off the field. To balance things out I was also happy to see Arraez get two hits with his new team. He just looks great. I love to see Vasquez get two hits. Other than that it was a perfect opening and gives me great hope for our pitching staff.

Cole Sands Can Be More Than a Mop-Up Man
mikelink45 replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is curious. Would this be Winder's position if he had been healthy? It just seems that there are a lot of prospects with better track records (which I value more than spin metrics). If Sands fails who is next up? But good luck to Cole. -
Twins Lose Danny Coulombe to the Orioles
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not a comparison - just a concern = Pagan is someone I have no faith in and Lopez has a lot to prove so I want to keep those who might step in if both of them fail us. -
Twins Lose Danny Coulombe to the Orioles
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This one hurts. I don't like either pagan or Lopez the reliever, in sands has not demonstrated that he has the talent that they seem to project for him. It will be a year in which we will find a lot of different opinions as the season progresses.
