    1.4 mph on average for the night …….cool evening, poor outing & it blew up in the 4th. 18-10-10 pitches in first 3 innings - 38 in the 4th. Lost concentration & didn’t execute on a curve that hung to Jimenez.

    Lopez - born in Venezuela & pitched in Miami prior to last year - when he struggled in a few cold weather games. I feel good about him….,,he hung a curve and it Bit him!! ………maybe lost concentration early in 4th and it all blew up.

    He wanted to make sure he had a 1B if needed going forward & Kirilloff was already the DH. …..he decided to go ahead after Jeffers came through - could let Jeffers play 1B if needed. My assumption. I too was assuming Martin would enter the game running for Santana.

    Finish re-hab by end of May…….slowly get into baseball activities through June………available after the All-star break……reasonable?

    Agreed - one game doesn’t change the year’s outcome. You play who you play though …….last night was the Twins first game of the year, since game 2 v. Royals, against a team that doesn’t have a winning record. Guardians have had at least 10 games with SOX & A’s combined……,all the teams/games count. Julien has his average up to .211 - another 3 hits in this series and he’s on his way……,,Gallo is hitting .143 this year & has a career .193 career average…….low blow, but funny, to compare Julien to Joey.

    I thought he (Paddack) was not able to be optioned - Thanks for clarity………after Monday night’s 7 scoreless with 10K’s……..hope his “issues” aren’t again a topic.

    On Tuesday morning - after a “swinging K” and then a line drive single up the middle - a drive off the base of the wall in left center for a double - a bomb HR to RF………..he’s now on pace for maybe 33HR? Your small sample size comments seem to have come to fruition last night. Hope he stays hot! I’d take .255 BA - .350 OBP - 26HR …….,decent defense ………that’s a valuable guy at 2B!! …….. regardless of the occasional frustration with bunches of K’s.

    Vazquez is playing good defense at a primarily defensive spot - offense is disappointing but he’s not a real surprise after last year.

    Don’t think any sane FO - intends - to not have starter depth. DeSclafani being out & Varland not really being “competitive” is a punch in the gut. I think Paddack will settle in going forward. SWR being inconsistent in St. Paul shouldn’t scare anybody - he’s not a #1-2 guy. Ober gave up 8 in 1 1/3 innings in his opener and since has been lights out. Bad starts spotted between decent outings are normal. Our goal is to win 55% of the time, not every day. Festa was my hope in the off-season to bring depth but 12 innings to date and the walks have me thinking, June at best. Sands has been back & forth between roles and has battled injuries. Sands seems very composed. That helps!!! Let Sands start in Varland’s next spot and expect to work 3 innings - then Varland with the expectation to go 2 innings (reduce the pitch mix) - then Thielbar/Bowman/Okert mix to get into the 8th…….Varland can be used in similar 1-2 inning spot following another appropriate guy during the week. SWR up as soon as he’s definitely needed. Maybe he gets another spot start in the next couple weeks to give everyone an extra day?

    Paddack have Options left? Not sure, but assumed, no…….,if not, he has a bunch of slack since he’s rostered as long as healthy or released……. “released” isn’t happening. Maybe he does have an option left? Louie’s command with various pitches doesn’t fly. His wound up personality seems to lend itself to a principally 2 pitch mix out of the Pen………maybe he stays stretched out in St. Paul but not in near term plan at Target. If the Team’s competitive, his best option from mid-August forward may be from the Pen?

    Pinch hitting success % is a problem? We only have 3-4 guys that can be expected to hit at all and a couple more on the fringe of hope. Kirilloff - Larnach - Martin - Jeffers have a chance (2 of which weren’t on Opening Day Roster)……..Buxton - Julien are on the fringe ……..the rest of the other 7 guys are interchangeable and producing nothing! Any small advantage the Team can squeak out “potentially” with a correct side platoon or a pinch hitter, they gotta try it to make anything positive happen. He’s not pinch hitting for Rod Carew. Even Kirilloff, as the leading hitter right now, is very mediocre v. LH pitching - gotta create opportunities for hits & runs. Did anyone watch Camargo on Saturday? He looks like he may be a year and a half away from getting any serious time in the Show. With Lee/Lewis/Correa/Kepler all out & Wallner having disappeared, they have very few reasonable options. Farmer/Castro/Santana/Margot are ALL major disappointments!!!! ……..When is Castro going to TRY a bunt?? Not really sure Varland has the mental make-up to be a successful starter? Honestly, I don’t think so…………I think he’s built to be effective in short bursts, regardless of the Team’s need for him to be a starter. Hopefully, they can find some way for him to contribute.

    Gotta handle pitchers - know hitters - throw people out………..Vazquez is top 10-12 guys defensively right now out of the probably 70 guys catching total, spread over 30 teams. That’s his value - that, & the fact that he can hit just as well as Camargo. The offense is unfortunate to say the least. Yesterday, 4/20, Camargo was DH and I might as well have DHed………not ready for prime time!

    Lee unknown details - agreed, not good. How about Wallner? Still hitting zero? Was hoping to hear of an actual TWO hit game for Kepler at AAA before they bring/let him back on the Big Club. Can’t add another .100 hitter to the starting line-up without him showing some signs of coming around!

    If Lewis goes 1-14 when he comes back do you want him to be moved from 3rd to 8th in the line-up? ………Managers play, they manage, based on % of success. It’s a 162 game season and this typically makes an awfully lot of sense. How many hits does Julien have v. LH pitching this year? He’s got 10 total hits so I don’t think it’s some big wave of productivity. He’s hitting .169……..if he’s not hitting RH pitching, which he is supposed to be proficient at, why would anyone expect him to excel against LH pitching at some high rate?

    I think Carlos Santana looks like he should be playing in an Old Timers League ……I think Willi Castro was reading about his success all winter on the net & thinks he’s better than he is…….,I think Kyle Farmer should turn the pitching gun up to 97 mph and spend about 20 minutes a day trying to get his reflexes in line with MLB pitching. Players need to get to work & figure it out! You seem to be the one who thinks they know how they are being coached - “poorly”. I’ve repeatedly pointed out that the players need to take responsibility & perform. My comment about Jax is if he felt strong enough about not throwing a change-up - Shake It Off! ………if you feel compelled that you NEED to throw it EXECUTE!! Middle-middle isn’t the spot for any pitch other than an occasional 3-0 fastball.

    How many “man games” did they lose to injury in ‘22? Had to start Celestino in CF for long stretches - brutal roster on the field for the most part the 2nd half. Players matter.

    Sure they count - the losses! I’m not anointing him best Manager ever but he’s not a buffoon that’s repeatedly costing the Team games - they can’t hit! The other 100 games they have between now & mid-August count too. Last year they were 58-57 in mid-August. Can they achieve that - a real shot - with their regular players? If coaching is so influential with player production, do we really think he carried the hitters, along with his hitting coach in 2019? Same in a shortened ‘20 when ball was reversed? FOUR starters are not playing……,how is that a coaching issue? Remove the left side of the infield and both expected corner OF off ANY club in the game and what are the chances of success? Their top prospect and left side depth piece is hurt at AAA. Can’t manage that away. My point about ‘23 is if everyone essentially got fixed, got right, by late July……..,did everyone forget the process? Again, players have to play & perform. Division Winners in 3 of 5 seasons he’s managed……………still don’t see the problem. I guess we agree to disagree.

    Wins - Losses with reasonably performing players…….the only way to critique a manager. If 4 presumed starters are out, the Manager is toast. Take 4 starters out of the Big Red Machine……..Rose(3B) - Foster(LF) - Concepcion(SS) are all hurt and young guy, Dreesen is hitting .050. They look a lot different at that point……..particularly if Morgan - Geronimo are stinking it up. A hitting coach can’t screw up 8 guys at the same time - these are grown men - professional hitters, not 16 year olds. SAME coaches as 2nd half of 2023 season.

    Wallner - Buxton - Kepler - Julien ……,none performing …,……..,SAME coaches as July - September of ‘23. Accurate? “Twin’s guys.” Accurate? Jeffers - Kirilloff (Twin’s guys) seeking advice from the Brewer’s hitting coach for success?? Castro had best success of his career last year after being exposed to the poisonous coaching in MN. Farmer hit .255 in ‘23 - dead on his career BA…..had the same coaches then as now - maybe they weren’t able to poison him in just 1 season? Correa hit .290 in ‘22……. .230 in ‘23 while injured …….. .306 so far in ‘24 Margot has been OK through career at best - Santana was/is washed from the left side (well sighted fact pointed out when he was acquired)……at 38, he should be able to figure it out IMO! Players play. …….,,,is Corey Seager asking the batting coach in Texas how to hit every other day?? Just don’t get the excuse of “it’s coaches” when swinging at pitches down, out of the zone & taking fastballs in the zone……watching Buxton flail at a slider or sinker out of the zone for the first pitch from EVERY GUY he faces is an adjustment a hitter needs to make between his ears…..,Do the hitters need a psychologist to clean up their minds, maybe?

    TIRED of hearing about the “hitter’s woes” because of some fictitious excuse of “it’s how they are being coached”. Nobody is coaching a 38 year old Santana to anything….,,,nobody is coaching Vazquez to do anything but make good contact - not coaching him to swing for home runs, ridiculous - Castro has great speed and refuses to hunt to get on - Margot is in his 9th & Buxton in his 10 season …..,they should have a pretty good feel for what works for them. I saw here the other day that Jeffers & Kirilloff are ignoring “the coaching” & that’s why they are succeeding…….just silly. Same coaches that were in place when the offense was scorching the League for last 2.5 months of ‘23. Throw the change-up knees or lower - not middle-middle - knees or lower & it’s effective. Gotta execute as players. Not comfortable, shake it off. ….,,pitchers have been doing that since the beginning of time in baseball. Does seem like most here are excusing the players, 4 of whom aren’t on the 26 man……3 hurt & Wallner………(7 hitting under .200 - not counting Wallner) and placing the blame that they are at 40-65% of their career BA’s on the F.O. & coaching.

    Two points regarding this post: ………the Tigers let 2 Fly Balls land in the OF in the same inning last night and it cost them 2 runs……..Ryan got pinched on strike 3, the guy walked & scored after he should have been the 3rd out. That’s baseball. The Astros are 7-14 this year.

    IMO, you gotta be kidding. It’s “coaching”? Wallner disappeared……Lewis got in 2AB’s, IL…..,,10 year vet in RF out after a handful of games, IL………”leader”, SS on IL in the second week of season…..,,.#3, #4, #5, & #7 hitters OUT! Top prospect is hurt, IL. The guy Polanco was traded for, Topa, has been out hurt along with Duran for first 18 games. Lopez - Ober - Ryan have pitched 4 times giving up one run or none and they lost all four with no run support. .252 career BA hitting .088 - Farmer .256 career BA hitting .121 - Vazquez .245 career BA hitting .134 - Castro .255 career BA hitting .179 - Margot .241 career BA hitting .121 - Santana .240 career BA hitting .197 - Buxton .250 career BA hitting .169 - Julien 7 guys under .200 …. most, considerably under .200! The F.O. signed/hired the guys in the left column - that’s who Baldelli is supposed to be managing. Dick Williams, Billy Martin, Tony LaRussa, Bruce Bochy couldn’t win with this type of offensive output. Can’t see how coaching “professional athletes” on how to hit at this point in their careers is a real topic?

    Trying to get a spark into a listless, pathetic line-up. If the guys he pinch hits for have a better % chance of getting a hit in a particular match-up, he doesn’t pinch hit. From my view you apparently think his substitutions at the plate are a problem and others don’t think he can manage a bullpen. To me it just seems like senseless complaining to cover for a POOR PERFORMING offense & at times, pitching. They are down 4 guys assumed to be core part of their line-up. Wallner - Kepler - Correa - Lewis…….the # 3, 4, 5, & 7 hitters. Bad situation!! He puts guys in situations to succeed and they need to do it or it’s on them!
