  1. Gallo was an experiment that failed. He should be traded or released, if they can stomach it. Doubt the FO can stomach a release. We know what Kepler is. If he's asked to play CF again and says no, he should be traded. This team cannot afford a known quantity that is a defense first corner outfielder. His catch the other day in the corner saved a game, but he gives up too much for those moments, as a RF.
  2. This is a total mess. They signed a unique and fair contract, with incentives built in for him to play. Then, immediately, his surgery doesn't work, he can't play CF, they DH him so he can play (and get paid), and get little to no value from it for a higher salary. Pure idiocy.
  3. I get the pick now. What a tremendously level-headed interview for a HS age player. I don't know if Pablo reached out to him or the other way around, but it sounds like he seeks out advice from the right people (Pablo, LaTroy, etc.). I'd place a bet on him.
  4. I see that the Yankees fired their hitting coach. That guy was their hitting coach last year, when Judge set the AL HR record. Apparently Popkins has a longer leash than him.
  5. Duran should be there. He's a great pitcher and would be awesome for the fans to watch against an All Star lineup.
  6. Everyone can't be out hunting mistakes. I think a team is not set up well if most are hunting mistakes. Likewise, it's an issue if all the batters have the same approach. I'd think a variety of approaches would force the pitcher to think and adjust and keep them less comfortable. But, what do I know.
  7. It's tough. All you can do is ditch Kepler and give Jeffers more at bats. And I'm not sure that solves the Ks from those positions. Buxton can't play the field, and could use a break. As could Correa. But, it's the key players struggling and K'ing. You just have to hope they come out of it.
  8. Agreed. We need to see what happens when the league scouts and adjusts to him. But, early returns are promising, and it looks like he can handle the fielding side of it.
  9. I was always more concerned about Encarnacion-Strand. His batting numbers were starting to look scary last year, and this year he has been killing it. It is hard to find hitters that can perform like he has. I wish him luck, but will be sad if it translates to the majors.
  10. That is a huge outing by Ober, after burning through the bullpen in a loss the night before.
  11. Taking 92 mph often your face is not easy, so I think they'll need to ease Farmer back in. We don't know if he'll comfortably stand in the batters box yet. To ease him in, you give him Castro's spot and let Miranda know he's on the clock. If he can't clean things up and Farmer is a go, then you look at your options, which by that point could be: Castro, Lewis, Lee, etc. Doing this also signals to Miranda that he's in long term plans, which I think could help him out, though I obviously don't know the guy. This is my best guess. I'm just hoping they handle thus well and don't mess up Miranda for short term gains.
  12. I think you add Ryan to the list, make it core five and try to buy out arb and early FA years from both Ryan and Duran.
  13. Too bad for Julien, but with a full roster and him in the WBC, I guess it makes sense. Hopefully they managed it right and let him know it would happen in advance, since it seems cold to option while he's out.
  14. I'm excited about this defense. Though, I'm curious what the range numbers will look like now that Carlos can't start a play on the grass and leverage his big arm. Hopefully that doesn't hurt him too much. (Thankfully we're out of the dome, where a shortstop, like Gagne, was best setting up behind the infield line in shallow left-center.)
  15. I was about to say this is the deepest rotation since 1991, but you beat me to it, and with stats. I agree, this team looks good, deep and versatile. If guys remain healthy, they have a lot of ways to beat you, which I find pretty exciting. This team looks set to be a pain for the opposition. And aces should not be able to get away with a simple approach against them. They can hit, run and hit for power, or at least they project that way. Spring is nice that way, but I have high hopes.
  16. We like guys named Morris. Let's see what he can do with some time, patience and coaching.
  17. Some pitchers manage to pitch above the numbers - it can be guts, spotting pitches changing speeds , or a number of other variables. But, Joe seems to fit that better than measurable profile. I really like him, and he seems to relish the intellectual side of pitching, which adds to his upside. The approach reminds me of Radke, who was a good pitcher who became a great big game pitcher. I'm excited to see what Joe can do.
  18. I look at his swing, in the minors, and don't understand where we are supposed to find a valuable MLB player. The bat seems slow. Maybe it has power, but slow and power is negligible. And he doesn't have anything else to offer on the bases or on the field. There was a lot going on, and I didn't judge the pick then, but I don't understand how he was projected to be worth a 1 or valuable in MLB now.
  19. Waiting this long into his rehab to make an offer could also make it look like you'd happily gouge him pay he intends to earn with great play. I get the idea, but it would have come off as closer to mutually beneficial at the outset of the injury, rather than now.
  20. I'd love to see what he can do in the majors, but he really needs a position. Please put him in AAA with a ton of time at both 2B and LF.
  21. There's a lot of swing and miss and plodding in this system now. If he can continue to get on base, hit, run and field adequately, there should be room for him (at 2nd, 3rd or OF corners in the coming years). I'm excited to see what he can do.
  22. That's a generous, though, well-reasoned article. If it does come down to a lack of buy-in, there is a component of that that is on the pitching coaches. Obviously, that group was in flux last year. But they need to be able to convince pitchers to make tweaks and in-season adjustments. Our FO does not buy finished products - they go for guys who need to tweak their approach to have success. If the coaching staff continues to struggle to generate that buy-in (especially after bringing in a veteran catcher), a change to staff may be needed.
  23. This article isn't exactly an endorsement of Lopez as a playoff pitcher...here's hoping a tweak or two to his pitching and a better OF defense help him get where we need him to go.
