  1. Having SS Noah Miller barely hitting in A Ball certainly doesn't help here. Is there anything to be excited about, beyond the walks and his big brother being in the Majors? There had been a lot of reports of a great approach and intangibles. Any updates on Miller?
  2. Please don't trade him for an injured pitcher. Please!
  3. I'm not sure I like any approach here too much. Injuries do that. But, with shifts removed next year, it may be helpful to have a defense-first SS above average range. If Iglesias is still that, not a bad stop gap.
  4. I'm guessing he works up and down in the strike zone, based on all the strikeouts with the high FB. We can see how that translates. May be a tough approach if he doesn't hit the high 90s or have elite control. Regardless, congrats and fingers crossed for today. Hoping he can have a solid close to the season.
  5. You've got to hold onto him. He had some very strong stretches. I'd cut a young, reasonably talented pitcher a break for not performing with a bad back. Surely there's a spot on the 40 considering how many bullpen arms should be jettisoned.
  6. I think the contract worked. They paid for games played and impact. By Fangraphs, at least, they got a bargain. The plan itself failed though. Celestino cannot cover for Buxton and Lewis got hurt when tried to. Without a good backup CF, preferably with a solid to good RH bat, having Buxton leaves the team scrambling to cover for a key bat and glove far too frequently.
  7. My main takeaway is Julien's .441 OBP over 113 games played. After seeing all the wasted ABs with RISP at the MLB level a guy with a plan would be welcome. Add his 17hrs to the mix and he looks intriguing. Curious to see what his next year looks like.
  8. We can definitely blame injuries as a major problem this year. BUT, the FO looks to have made a point of drafting and trading for pitchers that could be labeled as high risk for injuries, or in some cases, already injured. And that is before digging into the Buxton injury matter. All are high profile gambles on guys with injuries. Going woe is me over injuries to guys like Paddack, Mahle, Canterino, and Buxton is disingenuous. All that being said, the 2019 Nationals had a similar approach and won the lottery in getting full, healthy seasons from guys like Strasburg and Rendon. The difference is in ability. The FO is taking on huge risk for guys that are not even All Stars.
  9. The number look good. And the clip is awesome. He's pretty efficient and then just explodes towards the batter. Something about it looks unnatural and deceptive. Bring him up!
  10. It's worth a try, but overall I think he is a faster but otherwise lesser Celestino.
  11. Awesome graphic representation. I underrated the guy, thinking he couldn't stay healthy and had no position. He's having a ridiculous season, though.
  12. Brutal game. Like the accountability from Duffey (seems like a good guy), but he's been really bad.
  13. I get that he isn't doing well, but it looks like we are triaging innings at the moment. Liability or not, he is somewhat competitive at the MLB level, and that is all we can ask for with four starters out right now.
  14. It looks ugly, but Skubal has been quietly great this year and the Twins have been terrible against lefties. This one felt inevitable. While Garlick has been mashing lefties, I don't know if a playoff team can rely on him as their best hitter vs southpaws.
  15. I'm not sure how they're doing it, but guys appear to be playing up all across the organization. I haven't seen much of Steer, but the two belt high fastballs, in the linked video, looked pretty hearty. Seeing him against better pitching should be interesting.
  16. I agree with Perkins. This could happen in Minneapolis. Royce does not appear to need kid gloves to help in his development. It's a lack of imagination, and the need to keep churning pitchers that forced this, and that sucks. We need Royce's bat, now and moving forward.
  17. He fills the utility role. Arraez does the same bat-first, while Gordon does it glove first. There's value there. Lots of first rounders don't make it or play much at all. So I won't bemoan this pick.
  18. Not sure how we're getting away with this, but I'll take it. Along those lines (and I am being lazy here) how are we fielding a lineup with Garlick as the cleanup hitter and winning? Are his platoon splits so good against lefties that he goes from being the last guy on the roster to cleanup hitter in April?
  19. I know the team isn't looking great overall, but that is the type of game you want/need from your ace (Joe is building a case). I'm glad Rocco brought in his key bullpen guys to finish it off. This teams needs wins and confidence. Tomorrow's innings will have to be determined and other guys will have to step up to pitch them and get some hits (pretty please). It all has to start somewhere. Here's hoping this game lights a bit of a fire.
  20. That looks so much cleaner. He also looks way bigger. Hopefully the (assumed) added strength helps him keep that swing calm.
  21. Wow. That was some unreal news to wake up to. I was starting to worry they weren't going to use the Donaldson money, and there was too little time left to do something significant for SS, C, or SPs. Way off! Nice to see they are unafraid of (multiple) big moves, crazy contracts, and betting on themselves. They must have been running on adrenaline ever since they agreed on this plan, and probably stopped sleeping after the Donaldson IKF deal.
  22. I know this is about speed, but I can't look away from those Cavaco swings. Yikes. I know he is supposed to be athletic, but I hope he begins to harness that with a refined approach. Even on his 3 for 4 day, there was some wild, unhinged stuff going on there.
  23. I like betting on your guys, but this is a big bet on Jeffers. Trading away a SS and a C, a week before Spring Training, without much of a back-up plan is frightening. We're lucky if one of these issues is solved before games start.
  24. Catcher wasn't plural in my post, on purpose, so I think we're in agreement. Get ready to live out your dream job as a bullpen catcher! Sano and Sanchez, in the same lineup, are going to bend the game of baseball into something new and completely embarrassing. Now, if shifts were gone this year, I may give the FO the benefit of the doubt of being forward thinking, but it'll start next year, after Sanchez leaves.
