  1. I love Eddie and his first stretch was really exciting to see. As much as I hate to say it, I think he needs a change of scenery trade. If the FO can find a comparable guy they think they can fix, Eddie could get a shot with a new organization and staff. I think he needs it.
  2. I played SS on my little league team, through 8th grade. Just putting it out there before the season starts.
  3. Last season's 2B debacle wasn't anyone's finest hour. I love the idea of having versatile players, but we have several prospects who have stalled out in the Majors. Is the focus on versatility hampering their ability to succeed in the Majors?
  4. It would be great if payroll could stay at $140mil, but I assume the statement is a message to the trade market that it isn't a firewall more than an update on payroll levels. Budgets rarely change easily.
  5. Great analysis, with a sense if humor. If this is the off-season's greatest threat, I'll be ok.
  6. Johan's no-no with the Mets is a signature moment, ending a long-running jinx from Seaver's Imperfect Game. I think he should be in just from his time with the Twins, but i hope his NYM experience and positive sentiments help carry him. I love Joe but it's hard to make it as a reliever without a record in hand or total dominance in the playoffs. Wagner could helo, but i don't see him as a HOFer either.
  7. I don't have the data on me, but could swear I've read, and I have watched, high fastball are a.big problem for Julien. If he could learn to hit them, I think that would change him as a hitter. But if a pitcher has their go to K pitch and a high FB to get you, you're going to be in trouble if you have a patient approach.
  8. Cool article. These things happen, and they definitely happen against the heart of a World Series winning lineup. Tough assignment for a guy who needs his fastball to dominate.
  9. I think Ober will be just fine, as long as he avoids KC. It's seems like they have some Intel on him, ever since we lost an assistant pitching coach to them.
  10. It took three ABs for Seattle to finally decide it's a bad idea to throw Buck fastballs. I also can't believe Rocco sat Buck on Saturday. I'd have given in to temptation and let it ride (I know he needs regular rest). Regular season baseball can be funny.
  11. I feel like Joe has been consistently under valued by the fan base. Last year's issue not telling the staff he was hurt didn't help. But he's always working and tweaking his pitch mix, and he seems very poised. I'm thinking he can ride this wave a while, but it's a long season.
  12. I hope he gets it right and plays several more years. His god given talent is unreal. It'd be a shame to not get more out of it.
  13. I agree the goal is to hit the ball hard. The guys did that today and got 5 out against a team with 3 wins. I like Eddy's oppo the most. I struggle with the pull pull pull approach of this team. Hitting the ball hard is great, but to do so, you first need to make contact. Hopefully these results can carry on after we stop playing a historically bad team. All that said, I will take a four game sweep very happily.
  14. It's not worth apologizing for ownership. At the end of the day, you want to make money, yes. However, the value of the team has shot up astronomically. People buy lit if things to make money. People buy baseball teams because they have a ton of money, love to win and want to be invest in something enjoyable. All that, to my mind means, when the team is actually really good and has a chance to do something remarkable, don't cut the payroll! Don't shortchange the starting rotation! Stop messing around! MN has money. If you're disinterested, sell the team to someone who want to win. Maybe they won't have billions of dollars from foreclosures during the depression, but they might just have the balls to actually turn the screws at the right time.
  15. Louie's got a little time. If he fails early this year, he can rebound as either a starter in the minors or a reliever. It's on him now, and I'm curious to see what he'll do.
  16. There's a difference between "all pitchers get injured", "pitchers with injury histories", and pitchers who are currently recovering from arm injuries. Mahle and DeSclafani were both in the process of recovering from arm injuries when the Twins traded for them. Both trades have proven to be mistakes and did so at lightning speed. Let's stop doing this.
  17. I can't speak to Soto. I've only read reports and seen a handful of clips. He sounds like an exciting prospect, though. What interests me is that the FO has adapted its approach and taken both Petty and Soto within two years of each other, after previously and loudly prioritizing college arms. That's valuable draft capital. So something changed, to my mind. I'm curious to see how they do in developing them and if it becomes more apparent that it's based on market efficiencies, the coaching staff's ability, or a bit of both.
  18. I think he's a great fit as a 4th OF, given his versatility, clubhouse presence, and that he hits lefties. Ideally, we wouldn't give up prospects for a 4th OF. I'm not Miller's greatest fan, but he had value. But, a player like Margot could have been gotten for cash.
  19. Prato and Helman sound intriguing. I'm curious how Prato's selectivity would play in the majors. It either works or he doesn't do enough damage to threaten MLB pitchers from throwing in the zone.
  20. Margot is a versatile outfielder who typically hits ok. He's also another guy with a good clubhouse reputation. Right in line with what the FO has been up to.
  21. Trading Kirilloff now is trading low. Start the season, have him play. He needs to play well at the MLB level to recoup value, at this point. Go with it. Brooks Lee is sitting there, if we can trade him (and Julien simply slides from 2nd to 1st to accommodate Lee). If Kirilloff Is healthy and plays well, get good value, or hold him. But, at least wait it out.
  22. He'll be fine. He just made his big trip to Driveline to work on the sweeper last winter. It may take a bit ti get it under control, but effort and work don't seem to be the issue. Maybe he always struggles to master the secondary stuff, but the fastball plays and he's willing to work and tweak the approach.
  23. Glad to see the utility player pool scaled back, with an MLB arm in return. Not flashy, but necessary. I'm curious what, if anything, this does for our OF back-ups. I'm still hoping for that right handed bat.
