  1. Yea I was wondering about that. I couldn’t watch the game but a botched double play early in the game is huge. How is that not a significant point in the game recap?
  2. I think you are overthinking this. They just want a fresh arm and they don’t view him as so clearly superior that he is worth keeping for the next week over the fresh arm. He has done fine but it’s not like his innings are that clean.
  3. It is odd that a team seemingly strapped for cash doesn’t have a deal in place by now.
  4. This. One of the great lies perpetrated on this site is that Falvine started with a bare cupboard. They started with a bunch of good young players and some decent pitching. Trevor May was in the pen as well.
  5. As always your articles are interesting and helpful.
  6. I wouldn’t assume he will be back soon. I think the bullpens are just ramping up towards full velocity and will be done carefully with plenty of off days in between.
  7. More sloppy baseball. The Twins seem to make at least one or two fundamental mistakes each game. I don’t know who is responsible for this aspect of the teams performance but whoever it is needs a wake up call. They seem to come to the big league team flawed. The frustrating thing is that it doesn’t get any better. I assume it’s being addressed but maybe guys just need to sit until they get the message.
  8. I was going to post about this. I think the reliever churn is something the MLBPA needs to fight MLB on. Tonkin basically got used and then kicked to the curb. Which was entirely predictable. He should feigned a back problem and made them IL him for 10 days so he would get a little more pay. The MLBPA worries about the dumbest sh*t and then lets their rank and file get used like this.
  9. Great to get the win but some sloppy ball again. Miranda with a bad throw and on the tying run in extras Wallner doesn’t get around the ball until after he fielded it meaning he couldnt uncork the throw right away. Runner just scores. Then Alcalá gets the double play grounder he needed and stood on the mound instead of covering first. Instead of being in the dugout he had to get another out in a tie game. Say what you want about the TK era but his teams didn’t make these kinds of plays.
  10. Happy for SWR. He had a recent clunker in AAA so I was a little skeptical but if he could could be a legit back end starter that would be huge.
  11. Yea that was my first thought when I saw that. I assumed the only reason they would bring Farmer back was because he was going to be the backup at short. If that is not case I would have traded him and kept Polanco.
  12. Yea I’m feeling snarky after yesterday’s game. I was going to post something like boy the Twins could really use a veteran infielder preferably a switch hitter.
  13. And I was just getting ready to post how much I appreciated CC playing all last year injured. This one he ain’t gonna play through.
  14. Yea I think the idea that drives some of us nuts is that sometimes the best chance to break a game open is in the fifth inning. No sense in saving the platoon advantage for a later opportunity that never comes. If there are ducks on the pond then shoot your wad.
  15. Yep - that’s why point number 3 you made is so valid. They will have to face a lefty at some point whether they like it or not.
  16. I agree with point #3 emphatically. However the rest of the stats are pretty damning. Gleeman wrote a very informative article on this a few weeks ago. Essentially all the best left handed hitters in Twins history had a 20% decline one OPS against left handed pitching. Only Carew hit lefties and we are talking about some great hitters like Olivia Morneau etc. This wasn’t limited to Twins hitters either. Across league history this was the case. From memory another poster looked up Juliens minor league numbers against lefties and it was pretty ugly and the sample was pretty large. I hope Julien Wallner and Kiriloff learn to hit lefties at the big league level and want them to get a fair chance but the stats support Rocco big time on this.
  17. Good on you for being a mentor. Your experience Saturday will be far better than a Twins game.
  18. And Max ends up on the IL. The guys track record with stuff like this is frustrating. Anytime Max is dinged they just need to IL him because this song has been played too many times. And when his IL stint is done he won’t go on a rehab assignment and will suck for a week before he gets his timing back. I just don’t get how the Twins have treated this guy like some stalwart in the lineup with his track record.
  19. I gotta admit articles like this drive me nuts. The guy is not young and has not shown anything consistently that would suggest that he is anything but a AAA pitcher and yet he is going to save our rotation. And on a more serious note he just went on the IL with the dreaded forearm strain. I hope he isnt headed towards TJ.
  20. I agree and I don’t anyone that would be even close in the excitement category.
  21. Correct. And in the case of Julien the adjustment is pretty straightforward. Attack the zone and make him swing or put him in a hole. The only way out of it is to punish the pitchers for filling the zone. If they aren’t afraid of him this is what he will get endlessly. Due to his babip last year I was worried we would see this: enough regression to the mean that pitchers aren’t afraid of him right now.
  22. I e been saying this for years. What business / industry wants to prominently display one of the biggest weaknesses of said industry? At a minimum MLB should require the box or technology they use be the one superimposed on the TV screen. It’s pretty unfair to the umpires that they get roasted on pitches that are in fact correct calls.
  23. A thousand times this.
  24. I think the important aspect is not the total runs scored rather the volatility of the numbers. There have been a bunch of games where the offense does little or nothing. Games where they had no chance to win.
