  1. Yeah, although I think they need another utility type for depth. There needs to be a plan B if Miranda struggles.
  2. I have always liked Escobar, but I don't see the logic in trading for him after they basically gave away Gio.
  3. I was upset about the Bassit deal with Toronto. That seems like a deal the Twins could have afforded and there was not excessive long term risk.
  4. I wouldn't go that far. We all knew this was going to be a one-year make good deal. We got a great player with comparatively little downside financial risk. Yeah, he could have suffered a catastrophic injury, but the Twins would have "only" had to absorb another $70 million at a time when they had the payroll space to do so. I'm not sorry we got his talents for a year. Do I think the Twins should give him $300 million for ten years??......No.
  5. Anyone would do that deal, but how many years of dead money are you willing to accept? How many big, long -term, mega-deals can you think of where the recipient played at an all-star level for at least half the contract? Scherzer and A-Rod are the only two that come to mind. In most of those deals the team only gets 3 or 4 years of all-star caliber play. Pujols, Cabrera, Cano, Stanton, Tatis Jr??... If you're concerned about getting more money to the players there are more equitable ways of doing it, like increasing the minimum salary or finding better ways to get money to the younger players, who in my opinion are way under paid.
  6. If the Twins had "won" the bidding for Correa everyone would cheer, and then about two years later Twins fans would be complaining about that albatross of a contract (see Joe Mauer). The Twins offer and Mets deal are essentially the same in present value terms. How do we know Correa had any desire whatsoever to continue playing for the Twins? I get that sometimes you gotta shell out the dough to keep/acquire the good players, but Correa just isn't worth it. The Twins have no established starters under contract beyond this year. If they are going to throw money around that's where it should be.
  7. A $55 million lotto ticket? No thanks.
  8. We don't know the cash flows, but the present values of the Mets deal and Twins offer are essentially a wash when you're talking about that much money. I wonder if they circled back to the Twins, or maybe he had his heart set on NY all along.
  9. Good article. I generally agree with most of it. I do disagree with the notion that cutting ties with Urshela had anything to do with saving money to sign Correa. The amount Urshela would have gotten in arbitration would have been a pittance compared to Correa's deal. And if that was the driver behind the decision, then this organization really needs some self examination. Completely agree that moving Urshela was perplexing. Are they really that confident in Miranda? Farmer can play 3B, but then who plays SS?
  10. In my mind, the left side of the infield has gone from a strength to a glaring weakness. I question whether Miranda will stick at 3B, and if not, what is plan B? Moving on from Urshela could be the the worst decision the front office makes this off-season. I guess there's time to address this, but teams aren't going to just give away a quality third baseman.
  11. Ignore the $11 million (which is an absurd amount).......what hole does he fill on this team? This is the most bizarre nonsensical signing I can remember.
  12. It sounds like a completely ridiculous rumor to me, but I thought the same about the Joey Gallo rumor.
  13. The Twins timing couldn't be worse in regards to their TV contract. Bally's and other regional networks are feeling the pinch of cord cutting.
  14. Maybe Scott Boras convinced the Twins there was a "mystery team" bidding for Gallo. Boras makes my skin crawl, but whatever he makes off his clients is not enough. That dude is a miracle worker.
  15. Hosmer would have been a lot cheaper. I believe the Padres are on the hook for almost all of what he is still owed.
  16. You can also add that Kepler has a team option for next year....it does not sound like that is the case with Gallo. If Gallo is comeback player of the year he's one and done.
  17. At least Terry wouldn't have given him $11 million! Terry only shopped in the bargain bin.
  18. Yeah....the rumor was so crazy I didn't think it could actually be TRUE!
  19. Someone is also going to have to come off the 40 man. I can't think of anyone currently on the roster that I would value less than Gallo....not even Pagan.
  20. Which means he'll probably be batting clean -up for the Twins!
  21. $11 million? Is MLB so out of whack that Joey Gallo is worth $11 million? Was there a bidding war for his services?
  22. Gallo.....????? I don't get it. Forget about what I said about not piling on the front office based on rumors. Yuck!
  23. I understood. I know you aren't piling on, but many are. I think we are in agreement. When I said "that's fair" I wasn't being sarcastic. I felt you raised a good point In that we have to take these things with a grain of salt.
  24. That's fair. This article has caused us to pile on the FO. While it may be fair to pile on them for other reasons, it's probably not fair to judge them based on second hand rumors.
  25. If Turner, that would be surprising. You're absolutely right. Why go after Justin Turner when they had Gio under team control for a perfectly reasonable amount? Maybe they think they can get Turner to sign for pennies on the dollars??? I don't know.
