  1. Interesting. I know it's all speculative so need to take it with a grain of salt. However, I can't be on board with any roster where Garlick and Leon may be getting a significant number of at-bats. That's not a recipe for success. Also, there are question marks at every outfield position. That's too scary for me.
  2. I'm somewhat sympathetic to the injury argument. As the summer went on, no one wanted Archer or Bundy in the rotation, but what choice did they have. Yeah, Varland and SWR had some encouraging outings towards the end, but were the Twins going to throw them into the fire while they were still in the middle of a pennant race? They had barely gotten their feet wet at AAA. As noted in another comment, the achilles-heel of the Twins has been their failure to develop pitching. Falvey was brought in to help solve this riddle, but the results so far have not been encouraging.
  3. Not happening. It's fun to think about, but there's no way he leaves the Yankees. There's too much at stake for both sides.
  4. Sadly, I believe Marsha Warfield and John Larroquette are the only two still with us. I had to correct my earlier post. Richard Moll is still alive!
  5. Many people only remember the off-field anecdotes, of which most are probably untrue. They forget that he was a pretty damn good player.
  6. I generally concur, although I would only go one added year instead of two. If he accepts that kind of offer and doesn't opt out after 2023 or 2024, then something very unexpected has happened. The Twins would end up writing massive checks to someone who either can't play because of injury or is ineffective.
  7. The first pick in the draft is the worst pick, because it means the team stunk the year before. I would rather the Twins were picking at #30.
  8. Depressing. Martin- As long as he keeps the OBP up I don't care about the power. How many times have the Twins had runners on first and third with no outs and then walk away with nothing because guys struck out while swinging for the fences. The bigger issue with Martin is where does he fit on defense. Canterino- I don't have his medical records and I'm not a doctor. But yeah, one has to wonder if this situation could have been handled differently. Balazovic-In 2000 at AA Kyle Lohse went 3-18 with a 6.04 ERA. He went on to have pretty respectable career. Sometimes you have to struggle to find and toughen yourself.
  9. We needed Larnach two months ago. Too late now. Might as well stay home at this point and get healed for next year.
  10. There really is no reason for him NOT to opt out. If it turns out like last year and he and Boras are left without a chair once the music stops, then what's the worst that can happen? They can go sign another short-term make-good contract. Ok, so maybe it's only $30M instead of $35M. So what. They could even circle back to the Twins, who have no one else ready to play SS.
  11. It's not a bad deal. The monthly cost is still less than the cost of a ticket. I get MLB.tv where I live. The bally sports app is only a little more and you get wolves and wild in addition to the Twins (presumably).
  12. I know this article is about team options, but the Twins will also have to make a tender decision on Gio Urshela. He could get $8-$9 million if they take him through the arbitration process. I noticed Miranda has been getting more playing time at third.
  13. I don't get this trade from the Orioles perspective. This is the kind of trade you make if you're doing a complete tear down and rebuild. The Orioles are a good young team that could realistically make the playoffs next year.
  14. Does anyone know what the rule is on foul balls caught against the net? I couldn't find anything in the rulebook. The original call was "out" and I didn't see anything on the replay that indicated the ball hit the netting. Yet, the call was overturned almost immediately.
  15. Thanks for the update. I'd be curious to know how you think they can get Prielipp $3 million. I know they can exceed their bonus pool by 5%, but when you look at the potential savings from picks 4-10, there just isn't that much they can squeeze out of those guys. If it's true that they gave Schobel full slot, that would be surprising to me, since that is a spot they really could have saved some money. They must have a plan....right? I guess we'll find out in the next couple weeks. UPDATE: I see your draft tracker has been updated to reflect a $1.8M signing bonus for Prielipp! Good Deal!
  16. This is not right. Can Sano play CF if Buxton's knee is acting up? Is he going to take at bats from Kirilloff and Miranda? Given they are in a tight playoff race, they should field the best team possible. The Twins did not get better today.
  17. I don't see a fit. He's not going to help them make the playoffs this year and there's no way they pick up his option for next year. The Pirates have a reputation of being "frugal".
  18. And I should add Urshela is a superior defender at 3B to anyone else on the roster. He's not going anywhere.
  19. Who gives us the best chance to win right now? In my book, Garlick, Gordon, Celestino, and Miranda are all ahead of Sano on the pecking order. I don't see any circumstance where the Twins pick up Sano's option, so what's the point of keeping him around? Unless Kepler goes on the DL (possible), or the Twins decide to go with 12 pitchers (extremely unlikely), I predict Sano will be DFAd.
  20. My biggest concern is whether they can sign Prielipp. I assume they will use the Xtra 5 percent over their bonus pool, but that only takes his number to around 2.1 million. Will that be enough? Any savings they get from picks 4-10 will have to go to the overslot bonus for Lee.
  21. I like the out-of-the-box thinking. The Twins are not going to pay top price for the more notable relievers available. They're going to have to dig deep and find unloved AAAA type guys or mediocre starters who could have much more impact as relievers. Remember, Joe Nathan only had one full season as a middle innings guy before he was traded to the Twins, and Aguilera was bouncing between the rotation and the bullpen when he came over in the Viola trade.
  22. I was there when the Kingman pop-up "fell" from the roof and bounced off Hatcher's glove. To be fair, it's a long drop, and in the daytime against the teflon backdrop that was not a routine catch.
  23. The Twins have 17 blown saves in 37 opportunities. Only three teams are worse in percentage terms (Red Sox, Cubs, Rays). I concur with the other comments above. If we're going to trade some of our better prospects, I believe, at least from a value added standpoint, the Twins would be better off targeting relief help.
  24. Wonder why they kept moving him around the diamond. Doesn't appear that he was ever going to hit well enough to crack the big league at any position besides catcher. I wish him well. We certainly need a catcher. The opportunity is there. Hopefully he can run with it.
