  1. Remember when we thought the AL Central was going to be a formidable?
  2. As a regular person who is not a professional athlete, the amount of money Correa is likely to make is imaginary to me anyway. If I were him, I'd tell myself I was set for life no matter what happens, and just sign with a team I knew I'd enjoy playing with for ten years. On the other hand, a ten-year contract is very long. Even if Correa does love Buxton, Falvey, Rocco et all as much as he says he does, if he gets the contract he wants, he has a good chance of outlasting all of them. Who knows if he'll like the next front office, the next manager, his future teammates, etc? From this perspective, he's better off getting all the money he can (or at least picking someplace where he likes the climate), because liking the team is a crapshoot over such a long period. And then on the other hand, for someone who has millions of dollars in their bank account, there really is a difference between getting $325 million and whatever lowball offer the Twins are likely to make.
  3. She also needs some infield defense tips. Until she learns to walk her ceiling is DH who gets on base a lot due to extremely small strike zone.
  4. Yeah, obviously baby Kylo's not personally attached to Minnesota, but Minnesota is generally regarded as a better place to raise kids than, say, New York. I don't think that'll be a factor if he has the chance to move someplace warmer/more competitive that also seems like a wholesome place for a baby (or someplace that offers more money). If he does stick around, my daughter who was born in late November is looking for friends.
  5. I think that Correa is going to go to whatever team offers him the most money after this season, but I also think he'd prefer for that team to be the Twins, if only because moving around is inconvenient and he's thinking about where he wants to raise his kid.
  6. The Athletic has us at 19 today and it's pretty clear that they're not paying attention. No mention at all of our horrible offensive start, and several paragraphs about our lack of name-brand pitching and how screwed we are with Sonny Gray injured. Could've been copy-and-pasted from opening day with an added blurb about Buxton's heroics yesterday.
  7. It's too soon this year to be sure, and he hasn't had a full season playing like this, but I'm only bringing up those factors to pretend I'm evaluating him objectively and not getting carried away in the sheer joy of the moment. Yes, of course he is the best player.
  8. You know, I'm quite shocked that I barely care at this point that Sonny Gray is injured. Nothing against him at all, his absence just hasn't even been a speed bump.
  9. Yeah, my buddy who isn't really into baseball went to this game and I couldn't have asked for a better game to win him over.
  10. AL Central standings just got a lot nicer.
  11. I'd say our starting pitching holding its own right now is a better case against trading Arraez than his good performance thus far.
  12. This game is looking like a great chance to take Winder for another spin in my opinion.
  13. Kind of looks like Martin's quickest route to the majors is... corner outfielder. Or Buxton injury.
  14. At least it's not quite as bad as what Minnesota United has to wear.
  15. Advertising on uniforms is unwanted trash, and the money it raises won't go to players, nor will the money translate to savings for the fans. I can put up with it though.
  16. I have some that I know will be controversial with people in this very thread: 1. Ghost runners in extra innings are fine. They penalize teams for being bad at contact play. 2. Pace of play will keep existing fans happy but it won't attract new fans. When non-fans complain about slow games, they're not comparing it to the faster baseball of the past, they're comparing it to basketball and hockey and football, which baseball is not capable of matching for sheer action. (Pace of play should still be improved, it just isn't the key to attracting new viewers). 3. In fact, decreased quality of the game on the field has little to do with diminishing interest in the sport. Inability to watch in-market games without cable TV bears at least 75% of the blame. If there's a crisis, that's where it is. 4. It's fun to have one or two three-true-outcomes guys in the lineup. 5. Position players pitching are fun and should not be discouraged.
  17. I want to be excited about some easier games against KC, but it seems like last year the Twins got pretty much exactly the same results whether they played good teams or bad teams.
  18. Buck will be fine. The bases are larger now.
  19. I hate to break it to you, but Cave is doing all he can to force their hand with his numbers for the Saints.
  20. Looks like you were able to snag some pretty good empty seats on the Twins Pass.
  21. I can only speak for myself, but as a relatively new, relatively young fan, I'm pretty confident that before I started getting into baseball, a history lesson about a past player who I'd never heard of from a sport I didn't really care about would not have piqued my interest in going to Target Field. Now that I understand and appreciate the game, I'm starting to take some interest in its history, but I think people need to learn to love the game's present before the game's past means anything to them. What did get me in the door? -Ticket prices. I had always assumed tickets must cost a lot because I heard fans complaining constantly about ticket prices. When I found out I could get a nosebleed seat for less than $20 I wanted to go. -Target Field. I was dragged to a game as part of a friend's bachelor party, and I realized that it felt very good to be at the ballpark. Specifically, I was surprised that even though I was in the cheap seats, I still had a great view. -Getting invested in the players. I had heard some hype about Sano and Buxton and wanted to see them. ***But most importantly*** -In 2019 the Twins were very good.
  22. Highlight for me: Small sample size, but it seems like the the rotation is pretty OK. Paddack had a very bad outing, but we have a six-man rotation for the moment, so until someone gets injured, he's expendable. Lowlight: Injury bug coming right away for Alcala and Kirilloff. Soul-crushing darkness: The Twins just didn't bring it in the Dodgers series. I don't think this is a matter of skill or ability, I think it's a matter of motivation. I think they just didn't have enough heart to show up in that weather while the Dodgers absolutely did. The Twins need a Patrick Beverly. Biggest surprise: I actually like Gary Sanchez. If he can keep having big moments on a reasonably regular basis I can accept him.
