  1. Gritting my teeth and hoping this is a depth/insurance move and more is coming. If the Twins don't make any more moves, and this is what we've got for 2022, I don't really expect the Twins to seriously contend, but I do expect Twins baseball to be exciting and fun to watch. On the other hand, I do have a lot of irrational faith in the young arms coming up. After Ober and Ryan's great debuts, I have pretty unrealistic expectations for the next few up.
  2. It hit me today that the Twins need to thread quite the needle if they want to both contend this year, and give all their pitching prospects enough of a fair shake to decide who to protect next offseason. When a team is rebuilding, they have the luxury of giving prospects long looks at the MLB level. If we're trying to contend, how many games can we risk to try out our Winders and Balazovics?
  3. Urshela, unless we try him a few times and it works worse than Gordon. They won't rush Royce. Whatever position he lands in, I expect Martin to be an occasional fill-in shortstop once he's at the MLB level, but they won't call him up just for that.
  4. I don't really mind the ghost runner except that it makes contact more important than power, and the high-power Twins lineup couldn't adjust. If it didn't put my team at a disadvantage I don't think I'd have any problem with it at all.
  5. .I don't think Sano's weight has all that much to do with his streaky hitting, but this could signal the return of the more disciplined version of Sano we saw working out with Nelson Cruz in 2019.
  6. MLB doesn't allow incentives based on performance metrics, that's why Buck's contract includes plate appearances and MVP voting as incentives rather than WAR or something like that.
  7. Young fans absolutely love that kind of stuff. Those kinds of antics are good for the future of the sport.
  8. What bad decisions? Signing Lewis?
  9. This is exactly why I'm really hoping to see the Twins pull a rabbit out of a hat and find some sneaky trade that no one is expecting.
  10. I read somewhere that the more streamlined laces also made breaking balls less nasty, making hits easier to square up. It's pretty amazing how big of an impact such a minor tweak can have.
  11. As I understand it, rising pitch velocity is to blame for today's batters' inability to send the ball where they want it to go. They don't just need to practice hitting against the shift, they need superhuman response time. You can still blame analytics for their role in increasing pitch velocity if you want. though.
  12. I'm sorry, are you saying that this signing is bad because we previously drafted Royce Lewis?
  13. I've seen Brad Pitt suffer enough, don't need a sequel.
  14. Honestly, I want to see the A's get a good haul. Whatever fans they have left deserve that.
  15. I just clicked on this discussion to see if anyone replied with something like "it sucks because they didn't somehow find a way to sign a starting pitcher in the same transaction."
  16. I don't know, Falvine staked their reputation on building a pitching pipeline. That's a big chunk of their livelihood going out the door.
  17. How is he post-sticky-stuff? If I'm doing the math in my head correctly, the sample size is small enough that we have no idea.
  18. I think I read in another thread that they don't card you or anything if you buy them online, so as far as I know, sure.
  19. I really want to tale a step back here and appreciate how good these moves are for growing the game in Minnesota. The Twins extended a homegrown superstar and have now signed another superstar THE DAY AFTER ANNOUNCING $5 STUDENT TICKETS FOR ALL WEEKDAY GAMES.
  20. I'm going to take a wild guess and predict a Kepler-to-Miami trade package. Too much competition for the A's pitchers. Can get a better deal where no one is looking.
  21. Incredible timing
  22. I've just been searching by "Yankees Correa" and scrolling. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth. https://twitter.com/search?q=correa yankees&src=typed_query&f=live
  23. Guys, Yankees twitter is very fun to read right now. Would recommend.
  24. Nice move but we still need to trade for another starting pitcher. I'm thinking Ohtani.
