  1. As a Twins fan who's been clamoring for years for the Pohlads to make a token change that seems vaguely better than nothing, I'm ecstatic.
  2. Buck passed up a lot of money in order to stay here on an extremely team-friendly deal, can't imagine anything more insulting to that loyalty than punishing him by not trying to win.
  3. The WBC sounds like a great palate cleanser after a lousy Twins season. Last time I really enjoyed watching teams from places like the Czech Republic and Taiwan (excuse me, "Chinese Taipei") that I would never think to associate with baseball. It was cool to see passion for the game all over the world.
  4. Miranda was my first prospect love, it's been painful to see him fall off. Still gonna be rooting for him and hoping he puts it back together.
  5. It's a good thing Miranda never caved to pressure to use that "I am not throwing away my shot" song from Hamilton as his walk-up music, or he'd look a bit silly now.
  6. Managers are the scapegoats when the team is bad, and they tend to leave in some degree of disgrace when the team struggles. Not sure I want to tack that onto Cruz or Hunter's legacy.
  7. The Pohlads must be delighted to have such a convenient opportunity to appear to be taking action without spending money.
  8. We need guys like this to make this team at least a little bit fun right now. I'd say the closest thing we've got to a big personality is Joe Ryan, and he's too legitimately good to really fit the "folk hero" archetype.
  9. Yeah, I'm a sicko for sure. I hate to admit it. Would love to be one of the guys who boycotts ownership, but my first thought when I found out that Jax and Varland had been traded was "tickets are gonna be cheap!"
  10. It'd be cool to get a "who are all of these guys in the bullpen now?" article
  11. I'd give it a C+. I think that selling was a very reasonable choice, and it was wise to go all-in. I was ready for a rebuild. I was excited to accumulate a lot of good prospects and watch the team grow from the ground up into another competitive window down the line. I was on board! But then came salary-dump moves like Correa, head-scratchers like Stewart for Outman, and filthy betrayals like Varland. And intellectually, I know that we got reasonable value back on most of the trades, but I envisioned a huge sell-off giving us a loaded farm system, and what I see instead is a few intriguing pieces. My expectations were probably unreasonable. I saw someone point out that we came out a little bit ahead in terms of trade value by most measures. I've seen national sources give us positive grades. But do I see anyone saying "the Twins are going to be scary in three years?" "Five years?" Of course not! Maybe the sell-off continues in the offseason. Maybe the starting rotation goes next, and brings us a bigger haul. But it's hard to feel confident about that because of the weird "be mediocre NOW" moves like getting Outman and Bradley. It was a very frustrating trade deadline!
  12. Pitcher named Homer a few years back has gotta be up there with these.
  13. I would have preferred to keep him, but I've got to imagine part of it is that they've already had incredible luck with him throwing 1,000,000 mph fastballs for the past few years without blowing out his elbow, and how long can they really expect that to keep up?
  14. The combined defensive IQ will more than make up for any lack of fielding experience.
  15. This is how every team does it, to one degree or another. When the team's bad, you trade away players who are good now but will be gone in the next season or two for a larger number of prospects who might be good later. Lots of prospects don't work out, but every good player was once a prospect, and the more quality prospects you can get, the better your odds of having enough of them pan out to build a good team. Sure, some teams spend more money on free agents in addition to developing prospects, but there are plenty of world series winners who built their teams by hoarding prospects in a sell-off a few years earlier.
  16. I'm assuming real contention isn't happening next year either way, and would rather dream on a young team coming up and taking its lumps right now than continue to watch the current roster underperform.
  17. If the TD comment section isn't full of people who think Rocco is the front office, this team has truly lost the casual fans.
  18. The problem here, if there is a problem, is teams trying to artificially inflate their MLB rosters by shuttling fringe relievers up and down for fresh arms. I don't think that it's necessarily cruel (theoretically more guys are getting big league innings this way) but it feels like they're gaming the system to use more pitchers than they're actually allowed to roster, and there's something aesthetically wrong about seeing a reliever pitch well and get sent down anyway.
  19. Whatever happens, I just hope that the Pohlads make lots of money. That's who we're all really worried about here.
  20. The Ober/Ryan/Zebby prediction is my kind of delusion (no offense to Lopez), since wanting Ober to get his flowers has been my hobby-horse on here for a while now.
  21. I've decided to throw caution to the wind and believe in these Twins. The worst thing that can happen is that I spend a few months excited and then get disappointed. There's no advantage to me in getting disappointed in advance.
  22. We need to sit Ober vs the Royals for him to have a chance at the Cy Young. Otherwise, I trust him most of the starting trio.
  23. Obviously we can't expect him to be in top form without his full Target Field walk-out routine.
  24. The Twins actually gave me exactly what I wanted this offseason in a reasonably-priced streaming option. I wouldn't say that makes me optimistic, but it makes me feel placated. I'm eager for the Pohlads to sell, but I'm an NBA fan and I don't trust the Ishbias, so having them drop out didn't move the needle for me. Disappointed that they're running back last year's roster, but I'm not feeling doom and gloom over it. The meltdown was abrupt enough that I feel like it's possible that it was a fluke. They say that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity, but that's not really true when you're rolling dice, and baseball is rolling dice to a certain extent. I'll give it a chance. Optimism level: Tepid.
