  1. Love all the shameless base-stealing from the Saints, Royce is looking like a real pest. I hope he keeps it up. .
  2. I looked it up earlier because I was curious too, the Twins have presumably already picked out a list of players they might be interested in, and the Padres have already approved all the names on that list. When the Twins want to cash in (generally after the season at hand) they can choose any of the players on the list. Teams choose to trade for a PTBNL when they don't have an immediate need that the other team can fill, and want to wait and see what they end up needing later.
  3. I notice that the Twins now have Ober as one of four players featured on their Twitter banner. (alongside Buxton, Correa, and Sano). I'm not sure if that means they see him as one of the franchise's biggest rising stars (thus unlikely to be relegated to a relieving role), or if they just put him on there because they figured he was one of the least likely players to get traded, saving them the trouble of creating a new banner. It's also highly possible that they pretty much let the graphic design/social media teams do whatever they want, and it means nothing.
  4. Looking at comments on some Padres sites, it looks like they're more negative on this trade than we are over here, so I guess by that metric we've come out on top.
  5. I think they're trying to slip into expanded playoffs, but also, I've decided that it's a good idea for rebuilding teams to use their open payroll to just sign a superstar for a year to give fans something fun to watch, if they can rope someone in.
  6. Is it just me or has this whirlwind compressed fast-forward offseason been unbearably long?
  7. Yeah, I don't think anyone who really knows what they're talking about has been treating him like a defensive liability, just comment sections where everything gets blown out of proportion, particularly in a frustrating offseason.
  8. I liked seeing Lewis steal, and I liked seeing Miranda make a big defensive play after having his defensive abilities doubted into oblivion over the offseason. That gawky looking reliever for the Bats seemed pretty scary but I looked him up and he doesn't seem to have a history of being very good. I'm making a mental note to keep an eye on him.
  9. I have basically stopped worrying about Archer, I feel less apprehensive about him than I would have felt about another year of Pineda.
  10. Pitching through elbow trouble I believe, Dorktown is doing a really entertaining Youtube documentary series on Stieb's career right now that I've been following. Highly recommended.
  11. I think the problem this offseason falls almost entirely on the Front Office's total failure to anticipate that the period before the lockout would be a frantic Black Friday stampede on the free agent market rather than everyone biding their time to see how the CBA turned out. Every move after the lockout makes sense as an attempt to salvage something with what was still left on the board without spending too much prospect capital.
  12. Gritting my teeth and hoping this is a depth/insurance move and more is coming. If the Twins don't make any more moves, and this is what we've got for 2022, I don't really expect the Twins to seriously contend, but I do expect Twins baseball to be exciting and fun to watch. On the other hand, I do have a lot of irrational faith in the young arms coming up. After Ober and Ryan's great debuts, I have pretty unrealistic expectations for the next few up.
  13. MLB doesn't allow incentives based on performance metrics, that's why Buck's contract includes plate appearances and MVP voting as incentives rather than WAR or something like that.
  14. This is exactly why I'm really hoping to see the Twins pull a rabbit out of a hat and find some sneaky trade that no one is expecting.
  15. I've seen Brad Pitt suffer enough, don't need a sequel.
  16. Honestly, I want to see the A's get a good haul. Whatever fans they have left deserve that.
  17. I don't know, Falvine staked their reputation on building a pitching pipeline. That's a big chunk of their livelihood going out the door.
  18. I think I read in another thread that they don't card you or anything if you buy them online, so as far as I know, sure.
  19. I really want to tale a step back here and appreciate how good these moves are for growing the game in Minnesota. The Twins extended a homegrown superstar and have now signed another superstar THE DAY AFTER ANNOUNCING $5 STUDENT TICKETS FOR ALL WEEKDAY GAMES.
  20. I'm going to take a wild guess and predict a Kepler-to-Miami trade package. Too much competition for the A's pitchers. Can get a better deal where no one is looking.
  21. Incredible timing
  22. I've just been searching by "Yankees Correa" and scrolling. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth. https://twitter.com/search?q=correa yankees&src=typed_query&f=live
  23. Guys, Yankees twitter is very fun to read right now. Would recommend.
  24. Nice move but we still need to trade for another starting pitcher. I'm thinking Ohtani.
