    Hopefully all the pitching prospects will work out. It's also just as likely none of them will work out. That's the gamble with prospects. Some may make the Twins by default. After all some people have to pitch. The Twins need a couple of them to be good if they are to have a chance. Great article. I think you have something there. The Twins finished at the bottom last year. Apparently FO is going to pretend it was a fluke. That is really taking a gamble. If the major league pitching staff isn't improved for start of season looks like another bottom finishing season and return to 90-100 losses.

    Long boring season ahead for Twins. Relying on a cupboard full of near ready MLB prospects for an already and depleted, barely AAA pitching staff seems like a long shot at best. I think they need a decent veteran or two starting pitcher to begin the season otherwise we may be looking at another terrible year of baseball and 90-100 losses.

    Great well thought out article. Let's see here. Twins finished last in division after Baldelli said all the pieces were in place to win. Twins finished last with a very incompetent pitching staff finished near the bottom in most pitching stats. So far they have signed another reclamation project in Bundy. He with a 2-9 record and an era of 6.06. sounds just what we need. Oh yes we extended Buxton who was on the roster already. Hope he can pitch. Seems to me this FO better hope the so-called pitching pipeline works out. Rebuild or retool what's the difference with another 90-100 loss season ahead?

    Yes indeed it does feel as though the Twins are adrift. Like always, they pass on the mid to high end free agent pitchers letting them sign elsewhere while Twins wait for the dumpster diving. We better hope those prospects turn out to be good. We traded our best pitcher and at the time our best hitter for these prospects. Some will make the team by default. However a couple of them need to be good considering what we gave up

    At this point I give them an F+. Sure they signed Buxton. That doesn't improve the team as he was already on the roster. If this winds up being what we are left with it's going to be an aweful summer of baseball.

    If and when this ridiculous lockout/ work stoppage ends it sure figures to be a long losing season if the pitching staff isn't significantly upgraded.

    More coaching changes? Yawn yawn yawn. They can't even hire recognizable coaches. I keep saying this FO keeps giving every indication that they are going even cheaper this year. I sure hope there will be meaningful signings or trades to improve the team. But I doubt it will happen.

    It's ridiculous that there is a lockout. Both players and owners had plenty of time to reach a deal months ago. The owners pushed for this for a long time. Are they concerned about the game? No just their money. The players on the other hand had the best CBA in all of pro sports. Yes tweaking could help. The average MLB salary fell to under 4 mil per season. The average career lasts a little under 4 years. Where is it written or mandated that that they should make a whole lifetime and much more for salary for just a few short years work? Most of us normal working people would jump at that chance. If the players cannot stand their pampered jobs, with great benefits, then do what normal people do. Find a new job. I've been a MLB fan for decades and hate to see it dying. But life will go on even if the players and owners won't.

    If we head to spring training, if there is one, with the current pitching staff we better all prepare for a very ugly summer of baseball. The prospects that everyone is touting better produce or we are back to a 90-100 loss season. I'm also hoping that Buxton can pitch lol. If he is the only "addition" then this FO needs to go.

    People assume the Twins will stay at or maybe even increase last year's payroll. I hope that's the case. But we should also be prepared for a reduced payroll. None of the " moves" made so far give any indication whatsoever that payroll will go up.

    Oh please stop. Get excited by another potential reclamation project? I know they can't sign any top guys now with the lockout. But they weren't going to sign anyone there anyway. I do have empathy for you though. It must be very difficult to come up with something during this lockout. I hope the lockout ends soon ( very doubtful) so we can talk real twins baseball:. No major free agent signings, a boring team with a terrible and even more boring front office.

    This IS a "deal from the same cloth". That is what frustrates Twins fans. It's the same old crap year after year. They better plan on signing a couple of real pitchers. Currently we do not have any real major league starters. If this is what they leave for a starting rotation, start counting the losses to add over 100. That's if they come back and if there are enough fans left that still care.

    Excellent well thought out comments by all. Both sides are equally at fault. It's been very upsetting to me as a long time baseball fan to watch the sports decline over the past few years. Attendance is down and tv ratings are bad. Plus many of us can't watch the games anyway due to tv contract issues with Sinclair and streaming services. Any games lost due to a prolonged lockout could be disastorus. Nobody seems to care anymore about fans. Just about how much money they can make for themselves and not for what's best for the game and it's fans

    That system of paying high school and college players huge bonuses is just plain stupid and has to change. Most of those players never pan out anyway. Why pay a high school player millions in signing bonuses having done nothing to earn it? Also the current commissioner needs to go and the rules that lead to their selection needs to change. Manfred is a joke. The system that allows for the commissioner to be a puppet for the owners is ludicrous.

    Signing a high priced SS at this stage seems silly until the fix the starting rotation. What we have now is a AAA starting rotation at best. Maybe some good prospects but definitely unproven. With the FO decision not to pursue any quality pitching why get a SS at a high price? Spend it on pitchers. But it's too late for that too. The bargain basement dumpster diving for pitchers has already begun.

    Crybabies? Yes both sides are. I'm sick of these owners crying poverty all the time and blaming it on the players. The players on the other hand have the best financial contract in all of professional sports, and with no salary caps. There's enough crying towels for everyone. I don't think fans have sympathy for either side. It's just outrageous that baseball has sunk this low to have a work stoppage in view of all the money in the game. It's a big slap in the face for the fans that work for a living.

    Through all of this bickering, do the players and owners care about their fans? Obviously not. MLB has been going down hill for quite some time now. If this lockout lasts into the spring and summer, the harm may be irreparable. It's hard for many people to have much sympathy for either side. This so called commissioner seems hellbent on destroying the once great game. All at the behest of the owners. Players if you are not satisfied with an average annual salary, quit. Get a real job. There's plenty of them out there.

    The Twins will be in real trouble soon. The dumpster diving will be empty even for them. With the lockout we know they can't sign major league talent, but they seldom do that anyway.

    Imagine that. Twins sign another pitching reclamation project. And they expect fans to get behind more dumpster diving? It's deja Vue all over again. This FO is a joke and needs to be replaced. Now we will have 2 Triple AAA teams in Twin Cities if this is all we wind up doing. What a joke!

    And Ryan and Over at BEST are number 4 starters. They have only 25 games of major league experience behind them. They are going to take some time to develop. Great article. Well researched. It's just always so sad for Twins fans that we have to shop the very bargain basement for pitching help.

    Typical Twins off season so far. Yes it's only December 1st but the Twins history in recent years is to wait until much later to pursue, much less sign, free agents. This magill/ cave discussion is ridiculous. Just as ridiculous at not tendering manaya and columbe that had much better seasons at the MLB level. In my view if we enter the season with no significant Starting pitching upgrade we will probably be looking at 100 losses next year.

    Not sure how Baldelli can be labeled a players manager. Too much laptop managing. Also the way he mishandled Gordon especially early on was disgraceful. His refusal to get Maggi in for his major league debut in an otherwise meaningless series was inexcusable. And how about his handling of Shoemaker? On his last game for the Twins he left him out there as he was getting blasted embarrassing him and the Twins. I think he totally mishandles players. But I'm for giving him some more time. Let's put the blame squarely where it belongs: ownership and the Front Office.

    I hope Buxton can also pitch. If Twins don't upgrade their major league pitching staff it's going to be a very long off season and much longer regular season. Twins sell the fan base the same crap year in and year out. They go cheap and hope they contend.
