  1. I was one of many asking for Varland to come up. Looked good for 2IP but the wheels fell off in the 3rd. Maybe he can be helpful but looks like he'll be another 1 inning guy with a 2nd inning once in a while.
  2. I don't think the Twins gave up on him this spring, I think they recognized his struggles and sent him down to get out if the bright lights of the MLB. Looks like they made the right move to me. I would like to see him get more at bats facing lefties though, to see if he can be a true regular, instead of a platoon player.
  3. I've heard it said that many tall, lanky pitchers struggle in the 1st inning to find their release point. Maybe that is happening with Ober?
  4. I think they will try to bring Santana back. Probably in the 5 mil range should do it.
  5. Lets hope Lewis is breaking out of this cold spell, (not slump because Royce doesn't do slumps) and gets back to being the game changer he's been.
  6. IMO a better indicator of schedule strength would be teams record since the all star break. Some teams went out and got players to help them down the stretch.
  7. Another good history lesson. I didn't realize RD had that many saves. I remember him as a pretty shaky reliever.
  8. Rumor heard yesterday was Buxton starting rehab in St. Paul next week. I hope so, but not counting on it. If this team even makes the playoffs (a big if at this time) I can't see them getting past the 1st round. With only 2 veteran starters and an extremely questionable pen.
  9. Does anyone have another sausage to spare?
  10. Great job! These articles bring back so many memories, Some good. some not so good. But its baseball so it can't be that bad.😊
  11. I think you're right about him taking his hitting problems out on the field. I have been saying for a while he needs to either go to winter ball and learn 1st base skills, or start in the minors next year and learn there. I think the Twins will try to keep Santana for another year so he could have plenty of innings at 1st in St,Paul and he could work on his hitting there. IMO there's still a good hitter in there, he just has to learn to unlock that. Lower pressure there instead of on the 26 man. I don't see the Twins giving up on him anytime soon.
  12. With the new rules they can add only 1 pitcher when rosters expand. They will add a pitcher and a hitter.
  13. The FO has done a pretty good job drafting some talent. Most of the "top tier" talent has been position players, but they have kinda struck gold in the later rounds with some starters. So why do they swing and miss so badly on BP arms? So many people were bragging up this pen at the beginning of the season, but I just couldn't drink that kool-aid. The signings over the off season were awful, and very questionable IMO. No previous records of sustained success, injury prone relievers that should never have been counted on.
  14. Until the league adopts a robo-ump Vasky is by far a better defensive player. Jeffers is bad at framing, and lately teams are running at will against him. As a sidenote, next spring the coaches really need to work more with the pitchers to hold runners better.
  15. Although I agree that Tommy was at least 1/2 the problem, it seems to me there are a few guys that haven't had their head in the game lately. Missed cut-off throws, poor infield play, and what looks like hitters being a little over anxious or jumpy at the plate. In other words, not playing fundamentally well. Max never seems to be running hard, but he usually does all right on the base paths.
  16. Even when he was struggling he was able to drive in runs. I would rather see him in the 5 or 6 hole to get more chances to drive in runs.
  17. They need to do something soon. I'm guessing they are trying to figure out a plan to ease the workload on the rookie starters as the IP are getting up there, especially for Festa and Mathews are already gone above their historical innings thrown. Sadly, they just don't have anyone else they can depend on to start a few games.
  18. They need some guys back. Buxton, Correa, Ryan, Lee. With 3 rookie pitchers it's almost a miracle they have the record they have. Time is running out.
  19. I'm going to take a wait and see attitude for now. Out performed Richards in NY so maybe a small step up or he could flop.
  20. I agree that he has done a good job this year managing with all the injuries. But I think you also need to take into consideration the quality of players he has to manage. Lots of 1st and 2nd year guys for sure, but they are very talented!
  21. I think there's been an improvement going 1st to 3rd on hits, but they need to learn how to steal more. Make the pitchers think about the runners and he's more likely to make a mistake.
